While on the Quest  by Grey Wonderer 15 Review(s)

Oh, goodness, what a good Sam-voice! You have him down pat :D This fic made me smile as if it were chocolate, which, given my fondness for that substance, is a Feat Indeed. I'm very grateful! Your Merry and your Pippin are marvellous:

Boromir, you take Merry and Pippin.”

“Both of them?” Boromir said sounding less than pleased with his lot

LOL! Poor Boromir-but I would swap places with him in an instant.

“Now, get in the boat and close your mouth or I’ll suggest that Boromir use you as an anchor.”

Thanks so much for brightening my day with this wonderful insight into Sam's view of the Quest. It's beautiful.

Author Reply: Wow! I used to be very nervous about writing Sam. Your review really makes me feel good about this little story. thank you for reading and this lovely review. (I'd trade places with Boromir for the boat ride too!)

As Sam’s old Gaffer always said there’s nothin’ like a good laugh to chase off your worries.

And that's something that Mr. Pippin knows just as well as the Gaffer, Sam.

This was adorable! I am so glad you are putting your very own unique spin on the Quest--I love it!

Author Reply: Hey, you kept telling me to write Quest and now it seems to be sneaking up on me. I actually have about four Quest fictions to post here! (Most are Shirebound's suggestions. She always gives me something to write even when she doesn't mean to do so.) Since there will be a few more, let me know if I step on the canon! Thanks for the encouragement.

Poor Sam, I am sure he felt terrible when he had to get into the boat. Oh well, Pippin had his foot in his mouth most of the time, but at least his chatter distracted the others and brightened the mood.

Though now I'm wondering why Boromir didn't throw him out of the boat somewhere along the Anduin because he talked too much ;-)

Author Reply: I think Boromir might have chucked Pippin in the drink if his mind hadn't been on that pesky Ring at the time. Sam really does show his courage and his loyalty to Frodo by even getting into the boats. That's why I love that scene in the film where Sam wades into the water determined not to let Frodo leave without him.

As Sam’s old Gaffer always said there’s nothin’ like a good laugh to chase off your worries.

And the Gaffer is right, as always!
It's amazing how Pippin always manages to cheer others up, even if it was not his major intention to do so ;-)

Sam's voice and thoughts are well done here. That's our Sam!

Thank you, G.W.!

Author Reply: Pippin is such a cheerful hobbit and he does mean well. I think that because the others know him so well they can overlook much. I do think the Gaffer was always right. I find him easier to write than Sam and so I am thrilled that you enjoyed Sam in this! He is the most difficult for me to write. Thank you for reveiwing!

Bless Pippin even when he does put his foot in it.

This is so apropos, and wonderful!

Author Reply: Thank you! This is another of Shirebound's ideas. Glad you approve!
