Tales from Tol Eressëa  by shirebound 17 Review(s)

Just lovely. :) I thoroughly enjoyed this final chapter, and the mental images of Frodo, Bilbo, Elrond and Gandalf on board the ship were so vivid in my mind. Especially the view which they were seeing.

And I love the fact that Olorin chooses to remain on Tol Eressea for as long as Bilbo, Frodo and Sam are alive. Truly it shows his deep love for the hobbits because he is so close to his own home, and is willing to delay his final return there for them.

Well done!

Author Reply: Thank you, Rhyselle. I feel that Gandalf always had a deep love for 'his hobbits' and always will. I just can't imagine him not staying near, for as long as necessary. And hopefully it will be a very long time indeed! :)

I love that Elrond was surprised. I always love it when the Elves are surprised by mortals. LOL This was lovely and Bilbo was so funny with his, 'he gets it from his Baggins side.'

Author Reply: Good old Bilbo. :)

If hobbits can surprise wizards, they can surprise even the long-lived elves. I love to imagine how they might have spiced up life on Tol Eressea.

Glad to have been able to read this. Delightful as usual. Came back from my parents to 43 messages, mostly about that horrible hacker!

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed this, Harrowcat. Instead of thinking about Bad Folk, we can relax and imagine happy hobbits sailing around lovely islands.... :)

You can never write too much about Frodo healing in Tol Eressea. Your touch is light and yet speaks so much what the two Bagginses have been through. The fact that Bilbo and Frodo are given so much proximity to all this sacredness fills me with awe.

Just beautiful.

Author Reply: Thank you very much. I love imagining that the hobbits' paths led them to this joyous, gently exciting, and rare experience... surrounded by friends who care about them.

Oh, what a lovely chapter! I thought at first you were writing the departure from the Grey Havens, but it sounded much too peaceful. And then to realize that this was a part of the grand adventure in the far West, and a part of Frodo's and Bilbo's healing.

There were so many little touches I loved, but I have no time, so I'll only mention one or two.

they had to be reminded when it was time for meals
They *must* have been overwhelmed, truly!

“One of them,” Elrond nodded. “One of them, to be sure.”
In full agreement.

Fascinating--I'd never thought of Frodo's dream of strange mountains in this context before! Lovely bit of imagining.

Hugs,
Lin

Author Reply: Thank you, Lin. I never thought much about Frodo's dream, either... until now! Who's to say what it meant, or what he was seeing. I think he and Bilbo both deserved to see "real" mountains at last. :)

Oh my! This was beautiful--I loved reading your descriptions of Taniquetil and the far mountains. They put me in mind of that lovely poem in Book of Lost Tales, "The Shores of Faery".

You show the deep and gentle love between Frodo and Bilbo so perfectly, too, dear. I love how Frodo still thinks of his Uncle Bilbo as "the most remarkable hobbit who ever lived."

Author Reply: Thank you! I think I spent weeks trying to imagine what the hobbits would see, and how they might react.

I truly believe that Frodo admires Bilbo more than anyone else.
