To See A World  by Nightwing 19 Review(s)

Hurray! Tithlam lives and is grunging Aragorn!!!! Thank you- a weight off my mind. And at last Aragorn is awake so everything will be fine now...why are you looking at me like that?

Well- you certainly packed a lot into this. But so easily done - like drinknig smooooooooth miruvor or chocolatey thing - real moments of 'aha- so THAT's it'. Your ocs are so good- they live outside the story and those glimpses give such depth to this.
I am so glad that poor Legolas feels better- everyhting's looking up! Hurray. I loved the idea that HE was the one who rescued Gildwas - but hm..Ramhar - still nothing.

The detail you included about the woman's scream and then a child crying is very convincing- it is hard to read that and Kryon's reaction mirrors ours. It gives the evil and terror in that city a reality - becomes three dimensional.

But I wonder if Legolas should have listened to that little warning in his head before he told Brina so much...... that is a clever device - makes me alert when reading - she gives nothing away here though...

Great to get an update so soon - thank you. This is still in my top 3 on the web... top three actually, of all time. Love it.

Author Reply: I'm thrilled to know I rank so highly! Thanks very much. I'll try to stay up there till I'm done.

I was right. It was great. I sense a rescue coming perhaps. Just so long as it doesn't mean the story is coming to an end. So glad Tithlam survived the fire. I'm a cat lover. So it was Legolas who rescued Gildwas. Interesting. Can't wait for the next chapter. Thanks again.

Author Reply: Oh good! I bet the wine made it even better. ;)

I knew I'd be in for it if I killed Tithlam, no way was I going there!

I am delighted to see this update, Nightwing! Another great chapter; as always, I feel like I’m right there with the characters. I like Brina! She is kind, practical, observant – and plucky! I hope she is not caught by the baddies here, she could pay dearly for her boldness. Legolas sorely needed this interlude of comfort and healing – it has been a dark road of late in more ways than one for our Elf! I hope the antidote helps him and gives him strength for coming confrontations with the bad guys; I suspect evil Malcovan and Ramahar are not through with him yet.

Glad to see Aragorn finally getting up and around, and little Tithlam back to sit on his chest and offer warm, furry kitty-comfort! It is good news that Alun is there to help out and that he sounds ready to start his revolution – I hope he makes it through OK. Hopefully Tarnan can soon learn that Legolas had no part in his father’s murder, poor kid. And how interesting that Legolas saved Gildwas’ life many years ago, another piece of the puzzle to try to fit into place.

"Thank you. And Alun, when you return, please help me take these bandages off my hands. I want to see if I can hold a sword."
Great way to end the chapter. I suspect Aragorn will hold that sword whether he ought to or not. It’s heartening to see him ready to dash off in aid of his friend, but he needs to be strong enough to do so before he goes tearing out of that cave. I’m looking forward to whatever happens next, I’m sure it will be exciting!

Author Reply: I like Brina too! She's sort of a combo of several old ladies I've known. Every one of them was smart as a whip and still possessed a good sense of humor. And I think that with old age comes the ability - or perhaps just the willingness - to cut through the bullshit and say what needs to be said, and do what needs to be done. I appreciate that in the older folks I know, even though they can be startlingly undiplomatic at times.

Yes, we do need to get back to Tarnan and see the boy through his trauma. Poor little guy.

I read this excellent chapter before I went to work and the result was a giddy smile on my face all day! Yay,Tithlam is still annoying Aragorn but I was happy to see her again. She must be as worried about her missing Elf as much as Aragorn is!

Brina's care of Legolas was very touching and her compassion was sorely needed.I didn't think Legolas would mind a bit of mothering from such a kindly soul.Oh, and the revelation about Gildwas and Legolas was simply wonderful.I never expected that and now I feel bad for the old healer, that he never got the chance to thank his rescuer.

I hope Brina's antidote for Legolas works quickly because I have a feeling that he's going to need his strength fairly soon.I know that Brina said that her potion wouldn't cure Legolas' blindness and I'm wondering how he's going to get his sight back. The possiblities are endless.

Ah, the coughing, grumpy Ranger returns and, boy, was I glad to hear Aragorn ask Alun to remove the bandages from his hands! Aragorn means business and he's raring to go but he, too, needs to build up his strength if he wants to rescue Legolas.I could hear the sadness in Aragorn's voice when he said that Legolas thought him dead--I can't wait for their reunion!

So, the rebellion is almost underway and Aragorn is going to be a part of it.I cannot wait for Chapter 42!!

Thanks again for this story and updating so soon.

Ali.

Author Reply: I was happy to get back to Tithlam. I was originally going to have Aragorn wake to find himself covered in socks, but then I realized that all his socks got burned up, and the poor hill men probably didn't have many spare sets for the cat to make off with. So no socks on Aragorn for the time being.

Yes, he means business, and it's time to rescue his friend.

Although I've not been consistent in leaving reviews as I ought, I have been consistent in faithfully following this story. Let me tell you, it is like a drink of cool water in a drought!!! The outpouring of good LotR stories is slowly but surely dwindling, so your story, while even in the "best of times" was a cut above the rest, now is a godsend for those of us desperate for a good, entertaining break from reality. I am very thankful that RL is giving you enough of a break to be able to indulge yourself with your writing...all us LotR fans benefit immensely from that indulgence!

These last two chapters were very, very satisfying. The tension has been tight for so long, it was wonderful to have it "backed off" for just a bit and to see "a reprieve" in Legolas's condition. I empathized with Legolas in his feelings of bliss at the succor and care that was finally being given him - our elven prince has suffered so much that I nearly ached with relief at finally seeing him get a bit of comfort!

And the background Brina gave on the old man of the cottage was quite interesting - but it was a stroke of brillance having him be someone Legolas rescued in the past! Nice touch!! It seemed particularly appropriate that Legolas should have gained refuge and protection in the cottage of the very one he helped years earlier.

I was hoping Brina, being the experienced healer you were indicating, would want to examine Legolas's neck injury. I'm glad this particular plot element hasn't been forgotten. All along, I've wondered just what it was that so disabled Legolas (never guessed that it might be spider venom, though that was a great idea, being as how those great spiders of Mirkwood have always been such a trial to the elves of that wood), but I've also wondered about lingering remnants of the dart...I figure (hope, prayer...!)eventually someone will have the skill enough to more deeply probe the wound and remove what so obviously still seems to remain within the original wound - a remnant of the dart, no doubt still laced with a bit of the poison. Wishful thinking, or am I hitting close to the mark?!

Thank you, thank you, for this most riveting, intriguing story. I have so thoroughly enjoyed it...I'm really going to hate to see it end! You write about Legolas so wonderfully - so many times during your story, I've actually felt like I've gotten a true, startlingly beautiful glimpse at what an elf might really be like, were they reality. It's hard capturing the ethereal in words, but you've managed it again and again. Real Life is demanding, but I hope that you won't put aside your writing once this story ends. That would be such a shame!

Author Reply: Thanks for such a nice long lovely review! I also liked the thought that Legolas' small past act of kindness would come back to benefit him later.

However we like to think of it, as a circle of action going round and round, or karma, or the energy of intention... there seems to be an element of truth to the idea that people's actions for good or bad can leave a sort of permanent energy that influences the way things in the world progress.

Goodness, I'm delighted that you think I've gotten "elvish qualities" right. I find it a really elusive and mysterious thing for the most part.

Oh, and your aim is quite good.

I can't say much -- I've been working on my thesis, and I'm tired, and I really ought to have been in bed half an hour ago. But I just had to read this, and I have to leave at least a little note.

I like Brina. She's a good, kind soul, and Legolas so desperately needed her friendship as well as her medicine. He'll be okay as long as she's around, so I'm glad she's there.

And I'm glad that the kitty is stil around, too.

That's all. I liked it. I'm going to bed.

Author Reply: You poor tired kid! I hope your studies are going well. I have a friend who is working on her Ph.D and it looks like a real slog.

Glad you still have a little time for fanfic.

These last two chapters have been as wonderfully written all the previous ones. Good to have the background information, and great to see poor Legolas receiving kindness again - it was getting really painful. Most of all, good to have Aragorn back!

Author Reply: Yeah, a little too painful. I was getting a bit tired of it myself.

Finally, Aragorn is here. It is so good to know that he lives. And is awake. And Tithlim is with him. Wonderful. Things are looking up.

I never imagined that Legolas would have known Gildwas however long ago. You put such wonderful twists in your story.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see an update so soon.

Thanks,
Robin

Author Reply: I know people were worried about the cat, so I figured I'd better mention her right away once I got back to Aragorn. In fact, I got the impression people were MORE concerned about Tithlam!

I don't know if you get many reviews from people before they have actually read the chapter, but here's one. I know it will be wonderful. I have loved this story from chapter 1 and am always so happy to see an update. Today's came at a particularily good time. It's been a horrible day and seeing an update of To See A World made my day! Now I'm off with a glass of wine to snuggle up under my electric blanket to live in a fantasy world, if even for just a little while. (I printed up the chaper). Thanks for the update.

Author Reply: I hope the chapter satisfied and made your crummy day better!
