For the King Who Has Everything  by Raksha The Demon 17 Review(s)

one of the things that i believe weas a society are losing is the personal gift. very few people now-a-days sit down and make list of who they need gifts for,and list out the one's that would enjoy something intimately personal from us. aragorn and arwen will treasure the copy of the document simply because he made it for them. nothing like oh gee i photocopied this for you, is it?

Author Reply: Thanx for reviewing, Nancylea! Yes, Faramir wanted to give something to the King as a friend as well as a Steward and Prince; something that would have special meaning to Aragorn and also Arwen.

What a loving gift Faramir is giving his friend the king, copied in his own hand. Love also the Author's Note about a name lingering perhaps from Middle-earth. We owe them so much. And Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas right back to you!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thanks for the review, Antane! I think Faramir derived a bit of selfish scholar's pleasure from the gift, as well as joy in planning a gift that would delight Aragorn. And it was a gift that no one else would have thought to give Aragorn, almost a piece of Faramir's own spirit

Merry Christmas!

I just love this story. I'm sure Aragorn will be delighted with such a thoughtful gift and a glimpse in a way of his foster father.Faramir is so thoughtful and Eowyn is observant.

Author Reply: Thanx much for reviewing, Linda; I would think Aragorn would love the gift of the letter and its copies. Faramir and Eowyn make a good team as well as a good marriage.

What a great story! The gift discussion, which inevitably led from the mundane to the exceptional (and quite clever), was one I could intrinsically follow, having been there enough times, and Eowyn and Faramir's interactions were delightful! One wonders if the reason the Shield-Women decided Eowyn could not be beaten by her husband, at least, is because she can manage to put her feminine wiles to good use and distract him from his strategy...

And that end bit with the manuscript and the debate on the change of Quenya usage... *inner history geek drools* Somehow I'm not surprised that Faramir would be the one to have that discussion...

Great gifts; would that all the ones I ever gave were as well-suited and well thought-out!

Author Reply:
Yes, what does one get the King and Queen who probably have just about anything imaginable, and in some cases several versions of it. I was striving for affectionate banter and understanding with the Faramir/Eowyn dialogue; so I'm pleased that you found it "delightful".

Oh, you just know that Faramir's a history geek, as well as a linguistics geek - remember his long discussions with Frodo and Sam about the history of Numenor and the Third Age and Gondor, languages, culture, etc. I think he would have been very excited about the discovery of Elrond's letter. (and now I'm wondering whether that letter, which Denethor had probably known about and possibly read, was the source of Denethor's knowledge of Imladris, or did it come from histories of the Last Alliance, or later documents) And I can see Faramir and Aragorn having long and enjoyable discussions about such things...

Thanx for reading and reviewing, Celeritas!

The story is as delightful as the title promises. Your portrayal of Eowyn and Faramir and their relationship is very convincing.

Author Reply: Thanx for reading and reviewing, Virtuella; I was trying for a credible vision of Eowyn and Faramir's marriage, as well as the solution to the gift-giving conondrum.

Ah, now THIS is the perfect gift indeed! So wonderful a present offered, so much thought involved! Thank you for this!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the story, Larner - how wonderful of you to compare the story itself to a gift! Thanks for the review!

This is absolutely wonderful. Every word rings true, and I have no doubt that Faramir and Aragorn would both delight in this special gift. What happy, fulfilling lives they're all living, and how richly they all deserve it.

Author Reply: Thanx for reading and reviewing, Shirebound - I'm pleased that you felt every word rings true! You're right that Faramir and Aragorn and their wives (and Eomer and the hobbits and Legolas and Gimli and many others) deserve good, enriching lives after years of shadow and sorrow.
