Filling In the Corners  by Celeritas 16 Review(s)

This is a marvelous corner to fill! I had wondered how Sandra had taken the news-- now I know! Just think, it was Kira who brought them together!

Author Reply: Obviously Sandra had to have received a lot of support in her grieving since she seems to be pretty stable by the time she and Kira run into each other in April (whereas Kira is if anything worse off). In this case a person like Kerry (who was obliquely responsible for the mess) must have been a huge help because he somewhat understands what she's going through.

And yes, Kira did bring them together. But I don't think they've told her that because the specific action that did is so distressing.

Oh, how wonderful to see this here! Thank you again for this beautiful peice!

Author Reply: I thought I might as well put it out in public on the 22nd!

And you're most welcome! Thank you for the awesome prompt!

Yes! Yes--that is the right thing that night!

Author Reply: There are some times when Kira can't help but defiantly celebrate. Thank you!

What a delightful reason for being careful! Heh!

Author Reply: I like to think that hobbit society had Certain Boundaries, kept up more so that the young would have them to follow and rail against than for more practical reasons, as generally speaking hobbits are smart enough to judge well in specific cases of romance. I wouldn't be surprised if Sandra's parents knew of Kerry's affection for her all this while and privately kept an eye on them to make sure he wouldn't jump the gun.

But in the meantime it does make for a cute romance.

Oh, how definitely a tragedy designed to draw these two together!

Author Reply: A part of me thinks that they might have gotten together eventually anyway (although it's hard to say since Kerry's already of courting age and Sandra is several years younger at this point), but this managed to speed things up.

I've always found weeping with someone to be the act of forging a spiritual bond. Too bad this was what caused it, though.

Yes, a beautiful look at the end of a long life and how her young granddaughter understands what has been told to her of that long-ago time. A sad tale, yet uplifting as well, with hints of an apparent falling-out with Pippin. I still find that odd, as Pippin gave the copy of the Red Book to the King on which allegedly our whole appreciation of the history of Arda is based. He will support the broader education of all outside the Shire but not inside it? You are going to have to fill in that particular corner, preferably somewhat sooner.

(And do give a look at my story for the challenge--heh!)

Author Reply: Sandra was born after Pippin left the Shire, so Pippin's not even a factor in this Falling-Out; rather, it exists between his son Faramir and the populus of hobbits at large ("representative of the King" was simply referring to Faramir's title as Thain).

I try to leave the Travellers' efforts to support education outside of my stories, as things have clearly taken a reversal since their time (I still owe Sam a couple of apology fics for some of the less charitable things Kira has thought about him in her ignorance).

Anyway, hope that clears that up for you, and I'm glad you enjoyed the tale!
