This is proving SO delightful! I am impressed!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

wow! I'm ecstatic that you like 'Hobbit Stew' so much. I really am!! I only hope you enjoy Bilbo's resolution to his problems (which are manifold) as much as you've enjoyed his misadventures so far :)

Thanks very much for R & R-ing,

M :o)

Oh, this is so much fun! I love Bilbo's desperate obsession with that pot of stew! And what a hiding place he'd found. I had a hunch as soon as he'd climbed up there that it would turn out to be an inconveniet spot!

Dear me! What next?

*peers hopefully*

Author Reply: Hello Dreamflower,

*giggles in delight*

Oh, I'm so glad you're enjoying Bilbo's misadventures! Poor little hobbit! Trust him to pick the only hiding place that would become the centre of attention shortly afterwards. So much for his stew ...

Unless he comes up with a cunning plan to beat the odds (which are massive).

Thank you SO much for the MEFA nomination for 'Hobbit Stew'! Not in my wildest dreams (and, trust me, they are very wild) did I think that Bilbo's Mirkwood gapfiller would earn such an accolade!

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M :)

how civilised could they be, if they kept their dining room so far away from the kitchen?

LOL, a good question indeed! This is wonderfully hobbity. I look forward to the conclusion.

Author Reply: Hello shirebound,

'wonderfully hobbity', eh? *blush* Thanks very much! That's quite a compliment.

I'm chuffed to bits that you're enjoying the Mirkwood madness so much! Thanks for R & R-ing, m'dear,

M :)

You have certainly caught the flavor of "The Hobbit," and done it superbly! An excellent story, well told!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,

forgive the delayed reply; I was on some 'time off' for a week or two.

But what a lovely review to come back to! High praise indeed from such an accomplished and excellent author as your good self. I'm thrilled 'Hobbit Stew' captured the mood of 'The Hobbit' for you - I hope the next chapter does just as well in your estimation (if poor hungry Bilbo ever figures out a way to snatch a morsel or two from a hundred sharp-eared elves).

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M :)

Quite acceptable, my dear cousin! Sorry it's taken me so long to get to this. I just finished my third reading of The Hobbit yesterday. Poor Bilbo. So near and yet so far from food. Love all your asides.

Namarie, God bless, your Tookish bloom and berry :)

Author Reply: Hello m'dear,

sorry about the delayed response. I've been taking some time off writing to recharge my batteries (and find my muse).

I also just recently finished reading The Hobbit. It's such a wonderful story - I don't think I ever really appreciated it before. But I do now! That's why Bilbo got his very own fic - all I have to do now is figure out how he's going to get his stew ...

But, no fear: I'm sure Bilbo will be out-foxing those elegant elves before long. He'll have to, if he doesn't want to starve :)

Thanks for R & R-ing, cousin!

This is great! I don't often read Hobbit fic, but as this is set in the Elvenking's halls, I decided to look ...

I like poor Bilbo's musings and ramblings on leg of elf, and the torment of seeing and smelling all that food! I think you've got his character (and expressions) spot on - this could easily be an outtake from The Hobbit.

Author Reply: Hello Jay,

you know, I don't often read Hobbit fic myself, to be honest. But I came over all funny after reading the book recently & felt that the tale of Bilbo's fortnight in the Elvenking's Hallitself s needed a little background story. Hobbits and elves - they're just such an irresistible combination!!

And I'm beyond flattered that you think the fic decent enough to be an outtake *beams wildly* !!! That's a heck of a compliment ;)

Thanks for R & R-ing,

M :)

Bilbo is wonderful in this. Definitely captures the feel of The Hobbit. Loved it so far.

Author Reply: Hello elliska,

thanks! I really enjoyed writing Bilbo. He's so very hobbity throughout his Grand Adventure, regardless of whether he's fighting spiders or eluding elves (or hungry dragons). I never really appreciated the depth of his character before, or how truly brave he was to leave the Shire and go on such a dangerous, fraught-filled journey with fourteen people he never really knew. Don't know if I could do that!

Thanks for R & R-ing,

*squee!* This is utterly lovely! Very, very Bilbo-ish, and very like The Hobbit in tone and style! I love all the little parenthetical interpolations about Shire-life, and also Bilbo's ruminations about the food!

Also, this is an episode about which I have LONG desired to see fic! Thank you dear!

Author Reply: Hello Dreamflower,

gosh, what a LOVELY review! And I'm really happy that it has distinguished itself in your mind as a definite 'The Hobbit' fic.

I must admit that, until recently, I always found 'Lord of The Rings' the more absorbing of the two works; but I read 'The Hobbit' again last week and - maybe because it was the second time - but I found more to enjoy in it. The tone of the book appealed to me more than it did before, and I sympathised more with Bilbo this time round. I was finally able to see him as an important and multi-faceted character in his own right, as opposed to just Frodo's mad uncle who found the One Ring on a jaunt in the wild and stuck it in his pocket for the next sixty-odd years. Though a little sharp to the dwarves on occasion (although, truthfully, they sometimes deserve it), Bilbo has wit, charm and a depth of character that I never appreciated before. He is also much braver than I ever gave him credit for, and smart enough to out-trick not only Gollum, but a multitude of ravenous spiders, a kingdom of (rather cocky) elves AND an overconfident and thoroughly conceited dragon.

So this wee fic is a sort of apology/homage to a character I underestimated very unkindly for several years, which is why I tried to capture all the elements I have only now discovered about him: his love of home, hearth, food, comfort and an easy life - and also the spark of Tookishness that sent him running into the greatest adventure of his life.

I'm THRILLED you liked it so much!

Ah, Bilbo. What a man!

Er, hobbit!!

(I tried to italiicse 'hobbit' there; bet you anything it didn't work ...)

Thanks very much for R & R-ing, m'dear. Your lovely review really made my evening!

M :)

Author Reply: The italics worked. COOL, COOL, COOL!!!

Poor hungry Bilbo! But in a pinch, the Tookish side of him rises to the surface and he finds his courage and creativity. This is a good gap filler. Now Bilbo needs to find a stomach filler! :)

Author Reply: Hello shirebound,

*grins*

I loved your last line - very funny!

I'm sure his Tookish side will rise to the challenge of procuring that stew (I just hope my imagination does too, or he's in real trouble).

Thanks for R & R-ing. Actually, you're my first reviewer on my first Hobbit-centric fic, so extra thanks for that! :o)

M :)
