Morning Song  by shirebound 27 Review(s)

A wonderful portrayal of the dog point of view. Scamp herself couldn't find anything you omitted.

And then, to cap the scene, *elves*. They remain off-stage, leaving us wanting more: which is of course perfectly appropriate for elves.

Did I say the elves cap the scene? I was wrong: despite elvish power, the scene ends where it should, with the center of Scamp's world. And a happy doggish sea-dream that hints to us of Frodo's bittersweet future.

Besides being classic Shirefluff, this is *truly* excellent writing, Shirebound. Serious kudos. (Can you tell I liked it?)

*bows*

Author Reply: I agree that the center of Scamp's world is Frodo, and I just had to begin and end this scene that way. Thank you for your very lovely words. And... Shirefluff! *grins*

Awww...aw, Scamp! This was so sweet, and you really captured the "doggy" POV beautifully! I especially loved the bit about Frodo giving Estel "temporary pack leader" status!

I always enjoy a jaunt to this AU, however brief!

*tucks Frodo's blanket up snugly around Scamp*

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I love this AU too; it's my 'happy place'.

*hobbit and puppy snuggle into blankets and drift back to sleeeeep*

Ah, but what a lovely Scamp-eyed view of Pippin, Merry, Sam, Frodo, and Aragorn (in order of appearance, at least so far as I remember)! I loved the little details about each one, that distinguished each from Scamp's perspective. And Elves! Of course a dog would be more aware of Elves, than the rest of us might be.

Am going to go and scratch a furry ear now, for it is very nearly breakfast time here... (Breakfast is late today, actually, but don't tell the Giant Schnoz. She's content to cuddle with whatever wee hobbit she's graced with her presence, until the food hits her bowl...)

Author Reply: Awww, thank you. I enjoyed showing this special morning through Scamp's eyes and senses.

Pip-dog is the same; she never seems to wonder where breakfast is until I start rattling bags and bowls.

"That was the moment when Scamp scurried in for a quick bite and tug on the laces, with the small ones laughing and the Ranger’s deeper chuckle filling the air. He was very, very tall, but was careful around the hobbits and herself, never once stepping on a tail or speaking harshly."

Awwwwwwwww. *melts*

Author Reply: Puppyfic! It makes me smile too, especially when 'Estel' is around. *hugs and wags*

Awwww! This was sweet, Shirebound. Nice and gentle. Loved Scamp's description of the Elves: "It was the people who shimmered with light, and seemed somehow both here and not here!" Very appropriate and very true. I wonder if it was Gildor and his people whom Scamp heard.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. Scamp should have wee adventures of her own, now and then. :)

Oh, nice!
This one made it to 9 on the fluff-o-meter!
Lynda

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed! There can never be enough hobbity fluff. :)

What a lovely tale. You really caught the doggie mind well :) I'm sure Pippin acts as living inspiration.

Author Reply: Thank you, Lily. Indeed, my new Pip-dog was the inspiration for this wee tale!
