Very clever Trotter, (and Dreamflower!)

*Grins with Trotter*

The strategy worked out!

Author Reply: It did, didn't it? *grins back*

That was sneaky! But can't blame him for wanting to be homeschooled.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Well, in my version of M-e, that's what hobbits do. They are always homeschooled, first by parents and older sibs, and later if necessary they are tutored by older cousins or uncles. But among Men, those who live in literate societies at any rate, there are schools.

Glad to read this again. Yes, I find I really like seeing Hildifons's family and their reactions to his having gone missing. I do feel for their grief, and Isembold's sadness that his beloved brother wouldn't be there for his wedding.

Author Reply: So often we only get one side of the story when someone is gone-- I thought it only fair to get a brief glimpse of the home-folks Hildifons left behind.

Ah! I love competent capable hobbits! Trotter certainly dealt with those thieves - and tied them up so well. And he managed to retrieve those mushrooms!

Hildifons has those Rangers wrapped round his little finger!

Author Reply: I'm very fond of capable competent hobbits. And I love it when a hobbit turns the table on the Big Folks.

Of course he retrieved the mushrooms-- a hobbit always keeps his priorities straight!

*grin* Not hard to do for a Took!

Glad to see that Hildifons is helping to alter hobbits' views on the Rangers - and Archer only needed to smile to help in that regard.

Those sausage-filled apples sound delicious!

Author Reply: Well, not only the smile, but also the way he helped!

They are quite delicious! I usually serve them with a baked sweet potato and a green salad and some homemade rye bread.

How on earth did I miss these? Life has been so chaotic and busy recently.

How terrible for Hildifons' brothers to think he may have fallen into the bog - and yet that Tookish sense tells Isembold that his brother is out there somewhere. And he did get to meet his true love while he was searching!

Off to read the rest and catch up!

Author Reply: I'm glad you found them now! I understand about RL; it has a nasty way of interfering with things like reading about hobbits, LOL!

Yes, there's more than a little irony in the situation. Of course, in my story, Gerontius does eventually find out his son's fate many years later, but it's not common knowledge.

And a "hearts and flowers" story just has to have a little bit of romance in it!

AndreaReviewed Chapter: 3 on 2/17/2011
But every now and then a strangely un-hobbity thought came to him, that Hildifons was somewhere in the Outlands, out in the Wide World, alive and well. If that could be true of any of his brothers, it could be true of Hildifons.

If he only had known how right he was!
It must have been terrible for the two brothers and their father to live with the uncertainty that Hildifons might have found his death in the bog.

On the other hand, if Isembold hadn't searched for his lost brother, he would never have met Miss Violet Puddifoot.

Author Reply: Yes it must have been awful. I don't think Hildifons ever truly realized how much he'd be missed and grieved for.

And you are quite right! Aside from the notion that a "hearts and flowers" challenge should have a little romance in it, even if only in passing, I also wanted a bit of irony: that the tragedy of losing his brother led to his finding his true love.

Ah! How I truly love a capable Hobbit! And there's no question our Trotter is as capable as they come!

Author Reply: He is quite capable! And of course, I love showing hobbits showing up Men, LOL!

AntaneReviewed Chapter: 2 on 8/10/2010
Two triumphs too! Now not only animals have to be wary of hobbits and stones but men also and even better finding those mushrooms... :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yep. A hobbit with a stone is not to be trifled with!
