The Potter's Shed  by Larner 43 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: 10 on 5/11/2011
I love all these! I did pottery myself when I was thirteen and fourteen, during the turbulent time when everything about life was over-the-top wonderful or horrible, and even though I was never good at or fond of the wheel because I liked sculpting better, it was a wonderful thing to feel a figure form under my hands, rough and disproportionate as most of them were. The craft suits impetuous Pippin wonderfully. I was alternately touched and amused by these drabbles. And now I find myself remembering a project of my own when I labored for hours over a sculpture of the four Hobbits standing together.

Oh, and now we know why it's called slip! :D

Author Reply: Am so glad you enjoyed this, my Lady. And I hope one day to make my own attempt at reproducing Ruvemir's monument.

And, yes, we KNOW just why it's referred to as slip! Heh!

And the cycle repeats! Lovely! Pippin will be a patient teacher. :)

Author Reply: Good grief--I missed a bunch here!

Yes, Pippin is now encouraging others as he was encouraged. Thanks so, GF!

At last done with this series too! This has been sweet and I especially liked how 'grown up' Pippin was acting, showing Frodo around the place and explaining things.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, Pippin was being quite responsible--and Frodo particularly patient--during the tour. Good for all concerned. Glad you enjoyed the series, Antane!

"And your character, too, is being polished even as we speak, she thought. A fine Hobbit you’ll prove once you’ve grown and you have some experience to smooth the edges, I’m thinking."

How true. We all know what a find Hobbit Pippin was.

Author Reply: Defintitely among the best of the best--I so agree, Tari! Thank you so!

Now that's lovely! I like the idea of Pippin passing on the lessons of his aunt; her lessons will live through his teaching another! That's a great way to honor her and those who preceeded her! Many thanks! :)

Author Reply: I so agree! And thank you for the feedback!

Great ending!

And also the beginning of a wonderful tradition among the family which will hopefully continue for many generations.

Thank you, Larner! And a happy New Year to you and your family!

Author Reply: And I thank you so, Andrea. It was a joy to post this last addition to this drabble series.

Sometimes it is the smallest of things that bring precious people back to our minds. And now the caring and loving kindness is being passed down the generations. Lovely Larner.

Author Reply: Thank you so, Harrowcat--you are so very right! A blessed new year to you and yours!

This is such fun to read! Pippin is such a cute boy, so very like my own son and grandsons, who need to learn by touch. Hmm, now I wonder if I still have our little wheel somewhere?

Author Reply: Pottery is such a delightful craft to teach and practice. You have a small wheel? How wonderful! Have dreamed one day of having a kiln, perhaps in the barn!

LOL! Just like Pippin. Very wise to use Ferumbras as a guinea pig. :D

Author Reply: I DO suspect you're right! Heh!

*wince* I always hated it when I got my cheek pinched by relatives! Poor Pippin.

I really do like this series of drabbles. I especially like how each one shows more than one definition of the title word. I look forward to future installments of this tale!

Well done!

Author Reply: There are two more in the series, twice the number of the prompts they gave us on the Tolkien Weekly site. But I found I had to do some more drabbles, and had some of them written in anticipation of a few terms that they chose not to use.

Am so glad you can empathise with poor Pippin here! Heh!
