Eggs By the Fire, A Ranger and the Hobbit Tale  by Cairistiona 40 Review(s)

Loved this story! Not too fluffy, not too dark. Ferdinand is a great character; at least he goes into the wilds prepared! :D

Author Reply: Thank you, BeeGee! I really did try to keep a balance between heavy and light with this. And Ferdinand... I've come to really love that plucky little hobbit! I imagine I'll revisit his friendship with Aragorn again sometime. :)

A lovely story, even (especially?) with the melancholy notes :)

I loved how Ferdinand rambled on in this chapter.

"Ferdinand, they're fit for a king."

*heh*

Author Reply: Thank you, Nath! Melancholy notes is a great description. I tend to think a story without a little bit of sadness feels too insubstantial, although I didn't want this one bogging down into angst. Glad you enjoyed it!

Love the interchange between the two of them! Heh! Now--who is the newcomer?

Author Reply: Thank you! They're fun to write, I must admit. *g*

Lovely story. Beautifully written and wonderful characterization. It's so nice to see Ferdinand again. :)

Then I got to this part: >>- Fini ->>> :(
Please write/post more stuff..... soon? I really enjoy your stories.

Author Reply: Thank you, Elentarri! So glad you enjoyed another visit with Ferdinand. :) I'm trying to write more stories, but RL has been complicated the last year or so. But more will come, eventually!

I could not help but smile at this - "The eggs are..." He paused, then gave him a broad smile. "Ferdinand, they're fit for a king."

In a way, Aragorn *had* told Ferdinand about at least one of of all the secrets Aragorn could not share at present.

I like Ferdinand!

Author Reply: Exactly! Aragorn let the cat out of the bag without really letting the cat out of the bad, sly man. *g* Glad you enjoyed it, and glad you like little Ferdinand!

How good to see the twins here too - I like to think of them meeting Ferdinand, and they are something else for him to add to his store of wonders seen.

I like the depth of colour and shade in this chapter too - the mixture of good natured banter undershot with the serious thoughts of Aragorn and his brothers.

Author Reply: Thank you! I like to try to put a balance of lighthearted moments against heavier moments. It seems to tone down the "melodrama" that way, without sacrificing the gravitas. And... I just plain love writing Aragorn and his brothers and that's how it always comes out. :)

With all the Ferdinand learned, he should write his own book... maybe he called it the Green Book of Westmarch. *g*

A lovely little tale, Cairistiona. I enjoyed this very much. Love the Twins and their concern for Estel and of course Aragorn is always a delight as you write him, as is Ferdinand. Hope to see more such stories from you in the near future.

Author Reply: Thank you, Fiondil! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I tend to have more ideas than time these days, but fingers crossed I can eke out stories more often than I did this past year.

What a wonderful story, and perfect ending. My own thumb would have loved such a gentle healing!

"I'll treat it as if it were my own."

"Valar, it'll be ruined by dawn," Elladan muttered.

Heeeee. Thank you again for this delightful gift.

Author Reply: *g* So glad you liked it! I really enjoyed writing it for you--though of course I would have preferred you not had such troubles that a story like this was needed!

What a lovely and perfect ending to a nice little story!

Perhaps Ferdinand will be gone when Strider becomes king. Perhaps not--Tooks are fairly long-lived. About what year is this story taking place? By the mention of Butterbur, it can't be dreadfully long before Bilbo leaves the Shire...

Author Reply: Thank you! Though Aragorn is fretting at the time of this story (TA 3012), I like to think that Ferdinand did eventually find a place in Elessar's household. :)

So short...I want more! Really loved this story, it seems that depression is walking along those people, except Ferdinand, he is a treasure...I wish that you write something with him and King "Strider", hopefully he will survive and be alive when Aragorn is King, we know that we will lost Halbarad and that is bad enough.

Thanks Cairistiona, it is always a pleasure to read your stories, next time, could you include the whole gang? I'm missing those guys, but it was good to see the twins.

Author Reply: Thank you, Fantasia! It was rather short, I admit, but it was written that way to be an easy read for Shirebound during her convalescence. I hope eventually to do some more longer stories with Aragorn and his brothers and fellow Rangers. And Ferdinand! Aragorn may be fretting at the time of this story, but I have a feeling in my foot hair that Ferdinand will be around when he becomes king. ;)
