Desiring the Downfall  by Larner 34 Review(s)

Oh the fireworks sound lovely, Larner. When I was living in China I saw many firework displays, but the one I remember the most occurred at the school where I was teaching (the school was celebrating its 50th anniversary). I thought I had seen fireworks before this, but these were phenomenal and there were fireworks I had never seen before. In fact, they reminded me of Gandalf's fireworks in their complexity. The fireworks we have here in the States are, frankly speaking, pathetic in comparison. And all the while there was an organ in the background playing music. It was quite something.

One little niggle, it should be "Vingilot"; you left out the 'n'.

Author Reply: I'll make the correction as swiftly as I can. Between work and fighting to bring all my programs and databases up to date with the new operating system I've had my hands full.

The fireworks you saw in China sound marvelous, and I envy you the experience! I've seen some excellent ones at Disneyland, in Seattle, and at the Puyallup Fair, although in recent years the last have been curtailed due to the increased population of the area.

Got my copy of The Hobbit part 1 and watched it tonight. Now I have to get a copy for my clients--one of them is enthralled with the movie and will love seeing it again, I suspect. After he saw it at the theater he spent much of his time coming out of his room to repeat to my fellow caregivers and me, "They're very little--but smart! And lucky!" for two days.

Beautiful!

Oh, so nice! I like the idea that the ents travelled all the long way to the south, to teach the people how to grow their trees. :)

Author Reply: Seeing planned groves in Harad, I'd think that the Ents would suspect that they'd been preceded by the Entwives, and would ask as to whether or not the people of Harad might have been taught by their missing mates. Thanks so, Ellynn!

What a beautiful story. You have a great imagination and skills in tale telling. Thanks

Author Reply: Thank you so, UTfrog. I am truly honored!

What a lovely series of stories. Legends link far-flung lands, and goodwill links all hearts.

Author Reply: I so agree, Shirebound. This must have brought a good deal of wonder and pleasure to the people of Thetos that evening, and more fellowship as the people of Harad begin to realize how much they share with those of the northern lands.

Oh cool! The search for the Entwives as told by the Haradri. I bet Sohrabi was very surprised when Aragorn described meeting the Ents in Isengard. I bet the first thing Sorabi did when he got to the Valle of the Sun was to hunt up that obscure temple and take another, long look at the frieze.

Author Reply: Oh, I'm certain that he would, too. And wouldn't some of the Ents have gone south in their search, as well as east or north and west?

One more going up today....

Awww. A record of the search for the Entwives. For of course the Ents would have searched far and wide...

Author Reply: That's what I thought, too, Lindelea! So, why not a special temple to Yavanna commemorating the event?

Sighs. I love these glimpses of Aragorn and Sohrabi! I just wish that Sohrabi and his family could have met Frodo, Bilbo, and Merry; but then I'm sure they did meet on the other side! Many thanks for posting these! :)

Author Reply: I think that by that time Sohrabi would have wished very much to meet Frodo, Bilbo, Merry, and Sam, having heard so much about them! Thanks so, Teresa.

“Then,” suggested the Farozi gently, “we shall pray that he has indeed passed through the darkness into the Light beyond. For darkness is perhaps needed for us to appreciate just how beautiful and precious Light is, do you not agree?”

Very true, Larner, and something we all need to remember. Can't wait for the next chapter. Thanks.

Author Reply: Yes, something we do need to remember. The next chapter is now posted.

I didn't realize you had written a new chapter, Larner, or I would've read this sooner. Yes, Sohrabi has reason to pity Aragorn his longetivity. It's fine when everyone else equally lives as long but when most die while you continue living, that's not good. It is no wonder that few Elves wished to burden themselves with befriending mortals who (from their point of view) lived only for a brief moment or two.

Author Reply: I so agree. Legolas was therefore particularly brave in the end.
