Feffers  by Cairistiona 18 Review(s)

What a charming and heartwarming tale! Poor little Estel: one misfortune after another! Thank goodness he found someone to cuddle him. I love everything about this: poor beleaguered Laeranor in her endless battle against the dust; heartbroken little Estel mourning his cat; gentle Elladan still fighting his own despair at the loss of his beloved friend; and the sweet young housekeeper carrying a torch for the unattainable Peredhil! Just lovely. I was also particularly taken with the practicality of climbing into a hayloft in a long skirt: thank you for addressing that! As always your original character is richly drawn, and strikes such a chord of fond empathy in me. And Estel's three-year-old naming logic... so perfect! Then, rounding out this heartwarming tale, Elladan's simple assumption that OF COURSE Laeranor will be joining them for Mettarė honey cake. Perfect!

Author Reply: Thank you, Canafinwe! I'm so glad you enjoyed this little tale. I've read in my research into adopting our daughter that even very little babies grieve, so it seemed natural to me that little Estel, who is older than a mere baby, would also go through the storms of sorrow... it could be that he, without being able to explain or understand, is grieving as much for his lost father as his beloved cat. And yes! Climbing ladders in long dresses couldn't have been easy... I tried to imagine how I'd do it, especially if I knew no one was around to see. LOL Glad you liked that detail.

Thanks for reading!

A wonderful story for this time of year. I like the housekeeper, too. I suspect there was a series of Feffers in Aragorn's life.

Author Reply: Thanks, UTfrog! I suspect you're absolutely right... Feffers Jr, Feffers I, Feffers II... Feffers IX... :D

What a sweet, adorable, loving tale. I needed so much to read something like this after the long, hard day of moving. (I have internet for a couple of hours tonight, yay.)

Estel still had his thumb in his mouth, but he reached out one finger and stroked the top of the kitten's head, between her ears.

Elladan smiled. "I think these are ready to be weaned. Would you like to take this one home with you?"

Estel regarded him very solemnly, then nodded.

Author Reply: Thanks, shirebound! I'm glad it gave you a relaxing end to your busy day of moving (and yay for having Internet, at least for a little while!) So glad you enjoyed this.

Awww...that's so adorable. "Feffers" grandaughter of..."Feffers". *grin*

Author Reply: Thank you! I think little Estel is a wee bit attached to that name. :D

That is a lovely glimpse into life in Imladris - and I now find myself rooting for a romance for Laeranor!

Author Reply: Thanks, curiouswombat! Glad you enjoyed this. I do like writing little "glimpse scenes" like this. I'm also a little intrigued about Laeranor... I may have to look into writing her story in a little more detail, as soon as I figure out what her story might be. It'd be interesting to see Imladris through the eyes of one of the "ordinary" Elves.
