The Accidental Book Club of Bag End   by Grey Wonderer 29 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 12/29/2014
LOL!!!

That was great! I agree with Dreamflower that already "the patented GW dialogue" was worth reading the story.

And the names! Too funny! I especially like "Bored the Bowman" and "Milkweed".

So, each hobbit has a different opinion about the new book. I can understand all of them, but personally I find myself somewhere between Merry and Pippin ;-)

These folks, Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens, they took the book and changed it in an effort to give it wider appeal.”

“I bet one of them is an Elf,” Merry said in a grumpy tone.

Yes, definitely!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I really appreciate the review since this is the only thing I've written all year. It's encouraging to hear from people and to know that some of them liked this. The names were fun to come up with. Milkweed was one of my favorites too. lol
I was glad to have enough hobbits to be able to give most points of view. I'm more like Merry but I still enjoyed the third film largely due to the amazing acting. Martin Freeman was perfect all the way through the film. When you see it, I think you'll be impressed by that too even if the film doesn't do it for you.

Thank you again and it's great hear from you. I love it when someone I used to see on here is *still* around. So many aren't.

I really have missed those prologues!

And although I haven't seen the third part yet, I'm going to read this story, because:

It takes great effort to ignore something properly once you’ve seen it. ;-)

Author Reply: LOL Hello there, Andrea. It's been a while but I'm glad to see you still have your sense of humor. Thank you for risking the read in spite of the spoilers. You've saved yourself a lot of effort by not ignoring this. hehehe

Hee! I like it! and I'm with Pippin, there's always room for a second take on things :)

Author Reply: I'm very glad you liked it. I tried to show both opinions on things. I figured if anyone would enjoy a new version of a classic it would be Pippin. : )

This was a good little story. I think I fall mainly in Sam and Pippin's camp. I can definitley appreciate Merry's point of view though. I liked the movies but they just didn't have the impact for me that the book did. I came to tolerate certain character and really like some others. I felt let down that the deaths of some characters didn't affect me at all when I really liked them both in the book and the movie.

Thanks for sharing this with us and we want to see more from you again. You're one of the authors I miss seeing around here.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for the review and the encouragement. It's very nice to know I've been missed. Thank you for that.
I am glad there are four hobbits. It makes it easy to show both sides of things. I'm glad some of it reflected your feelings. I figured Sam would like a bit of romance. After all, he did have 13 children. : )

Yay! Glad you wrote something and are posting it. I, for one, have missed you.

I have the feeling I'm going to love this because of some of my feelings about "The Hobbit" movies. You are one of the funniest and most creative writers I know. Even your prologues are good. :)

Can't wait to see what happens here. Please post more. We miss you.

Author Reply: Hi, Garnet! I miss you too. You aren't around on LJ much anymore. Miss seeing you there. (Hugs)
This was odd. This story came to me all at once and I haven't been in the mood to write anything all year. This was it. I hope my muse is back but you just never know. Glad you enjoy my prologues. I like to have fun with them.

“I’ve had too much ale this Yule,” Merry sighed.

“As you do every Yule, Meriadoc,” Pippin yawned, stretching out on the sofa and closing his eyes.

“No, I believe I've had more than usual I’d say,” Merry said thoughtfully. He peered at the book in his hands and frowned.

“I lost count of your consumption this year so I dare not comment,” Pippin said. “And, as there were, and still are, a great many hobbits about, all of whom have likely had too much ale, I doubt you can put a number to it.”

“You were counting?” Merry asked looking up from the book for a moment.

“I always do in the beginning. Then things become slightly hazy and I begin to question myself. Was that number six or number nine, I say to myself. Those two always put me to some bother as upside down it’s one of them and right side up it’s the other, so usually I lose count at six,” Pippin said. “Of course, if I make it past six, then I tend to lose it at nine.”

“No, I was meaning to ask, why were you counting my ales?” Merry said, more directly. You had to be direct with Pippin or you got such nonsense as that information about the sixes and nines.

“I always do,” Pippin repeated raising up on the sofa, seemingly wide awake now when only just moments before he had looked about ready to drift off.

“You make it a habit to count the number of ales that I have and you do this for what purpose?” Merry asked looking slightly annoyed. “Even my mum doesn’t count my drinks. Why would you?”

“So I can see how many I should have,” Pippin said as if this made perfect sense.

“So, you decide how many drinks you should have by counting mine?”

“I do. I think it’s very practical of me. It might be one of the few practical things I do.”

“How, by any stretch of the imagination, is this a matter of practicality?” Merry asked now more curious than annoyed.

“Well, normally I come to these Yule events with you, so I like for one of us to be able to find our way home again. If I count your drinks, then I can determine if you will be able to get us home again or back to where ever we might be staying. If you’ve had too much then I know that the task will fall to me,” Pippin smiled. “If it’s my duty to see us home, then I try not to have more than is prudent.”

Pippin as Designated Walker. *snerk* If that patented GW dialogue had been the only part of the story, it would have been enough for me! But you still had more up your sleeve!

The Adventures of Oblib; ohmigosh, that's too funny! Poor Merry!

I love the way each of the characters react: Merry indignant at the changes to something he likes the way it is; Pippin liking the extra adventure, and Sam the happily married enjoying the romance; while Frodo the scholar knows the whole history behind this mysterious second edition, LOL!

And the names were hilarious--I especially liked "Token"! *grin*

I'm so glad your Muse came back! I hope it doesn't take another long vacation, because the world NEEDS more GW hobbits!

((((((((hugs and hugs and hugs and hugs)))))))))))))

Author Reply: When I get a *snerk* from you then I know I'm on the right track. lol
So glad you enjoyed it. I don't know if the world really needs more of my hobbits but if the muse sticks around then, there will be more.
I had fun with the names. I wanted people to know who was who but it was fun playing with it all. I stuck Bergil into this one because Jackson's inclusion of a young lad in The Hobbit when he'd left poor Bergil out of the LOTR films struck me as kind of funny. As to Token, well, I think that one explains itself. lol
I did try to show all opinions in this and thankful there were enough hobbits to do the job.
Thanks so much for the lovely review. It's encouraging that people will still read this kind of stuff from me.

Oh how I've missed your prologues! You made me grin. I'm so glad to see you posting hobbits again! YAY!

I am eager to see just what spoilers there are...

Author Reply: Thank you! So glad you got a grin out of this. I like to *play* with my prologues. lol
Hope you enjoy the story.

This was very cute and clever. I'll read Merry's original version!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and if any of the hobbit in this story reflected my opinions, Merry came the closest. For some reason, when I write, Merry nearly always gets to express my personal take on things, if I have one.

You are awesome! I love it! Morris Mapleshield, Token, Armulus, Bored, Boar... those are such great code names i love it!
I agree with Merry's thoughts because they echo yours and mine! =) So great! Should link it to speedyhobbit for i'm sure she'll like it too.
This is so great. I love it a lot! =) It's all our grievances towards PJ and i share them toO! :)

Author Reply: You are more awesome! hehehe
The names were fun to come up with. I'm so glad you liked them.
I knew that you, Speedyhobbit and I were in the Merry camp. The reviews are pretty even on it though so I'm glad I was able to show both sides of the issue. Thank goodness Tolkien gave us plenty of hobbits to play with.
Thank you for this sweet review! (hugs)

I hope your muses are kind and you can continue the story.

Author Reply: I hope my muse sticks around a while too. I've really missed writing. Thank you for the good wishes.
