Elf Academy 4 - The Unfinished Tales  by Fiondil 17 Review(s)

This is one of only two reviews I have written this year. I have been involved in some projects which required time, time AWAY from Fan Fiction. But I want to join the line of people thanking you "beta amigas" as Kaylee put it, for all of the work you have done this year. I would like to add a voice to your taking the story as far as our friend had it... then saying "this is as far as it goes". After that, well --- Dreamflower has already given us a "fan-fiction upon a fan-fiction" as it were. Check out her collection of short pieces, "Dreamflower's Mathoms", I think. Look at "Gabriella's Story." It is a further, future adventure of the baby Legolas rescued from the car-jacker. I am sure that all of us have our own thoughts about things which could happen next to our favorite canon and original characters. Arthur's stories have captured our imaginations in almost the same ways as those of Our Good Professor. Except for those here who are established authors, who can include such tales in their own short chapter collections, perhaps this site is not quite set up for such second-level tale telling. But I am sure that many of you have ideas about where it would be suitable. Together, I am sure we will be able to sit by a window of "our Cliff House", which someone pointed out is really our own room in the Cottage of Lost Play, and watch not only John Robert's, but Arthur's, chapters of the Never Ending Story, continue for a very long time to come. (Whew!)

Just wanted to say once more, thank you to all who worked to bring these chapters to light. I wish you and your loved ones joy, peace, and comfort in this season of hope.

I review so seldom, but I faithfully check for updates every Monday. Thanks to those carrying on Fiondil's work. I am starting to dread the moment the updates just stop. Ellie, Mari and Shemyaza, do you have any idea what Fiondil intended as an ending? Will you be able to give us a summary? Or are you able to create your own ending? I don't want to create extra work for anyone, I just want to know what to prepare myself for, mentally and emotionally. You are all carrying out an amazing work of love for a fellow writer.

Author Reply: Hi there, Shemyaza here! Sorry I haven't answered reviews lately, but I will get around to them.

To answer your question, none of us really have an idea of how Fiondil was going to finish the story. I know that he intended at least 100 chapters and the task of finishing his story is yet under review. I did actually finish the rest of the last chapter he wrote because it ended halfway through. I tried to keep the writing style as much like his as possible and I have mulled over the idea of finishing the story myself. I honestly don't think that Fiondil had decided how to end it, but whatever happens, if we do continue the story on, we will try to remain faithful to what we know Fiondil would have wanted, although his descriptions of dress and food might be more difficult for us. I think out of all of us perhaps Ellie would be able to do that. As to the ending, I know for a fact that he had no idea at the point of his death exactly how he was going to end it. Of course at that point, although he knew his health was bad, he wasn't expecting to leave us so soon. I did speak with him not long before his death and he was still mulling over the direction of the story.

I was about to say the same thing about Hugh Beringer Larner. Isn't Cenred also the name of the old priest's assistant, (verger), in 'A Raven in the Foregate? Methinks friend Fiondil was paying homage to Ellis Peters.
Still loving every minute of this and can't believe we are nearing a year's worth of publishing. Thank you for all your care.

Ah, but it is good that they have apparently found the place prepared for them, as well as a good place to hide the dagger. I find myself wishing I'd studied the tengwar better than I ever did. R*g*ng. Ringing? Not that that word is either Sindarin or Quenya, of course.

Of course, with the last name of Beringar I find myself wondering if Cenred is kin to Hugh? Oh, I know--different author and all.... Heh!

Let's hope a squirrel does not decide to use the ApHewyls hiding place for his winter acorn stash!

Just the changes in agriculture alone are staggering to contemplate in the lives of Elves. So glad the story is continuing. Thanks
