Teitho!  by My blue rose 23 Review(s)

Like in your previous story, the research is spot on, I absolutely love it! I'm probably going to repeat it in every single story you post. ^^ I really must ask, where do you find your translations, or where did you learn so much about Elvish? Myself being an aspiring fanfiction writer, I'm really interested in learning the languages. Keep up the good work!

Author Reply: Ardalambion is the best site if you want to know more about Tolkien's languages. It also has downloadable dictionaries too.

Alas that Gimli would not marry and carry on the family's lineage. But he has managed to assist in the final victory against Sauron, and he has made a friendship that will surpass almost all within Middle Earth.

Love Hlin's ability to appreciate her lack of progress with her son.

I know that when I was a child I had to overcome my many fears by forcing myself to face them, something I preferred to do alone so as not to embarrass myself in front of my brothers and sister. I feel a kinship with Mistress Estel here!

A good first impression here. Love this first look at Legolas through Gimli's eyes.

“Your fear does not make you a coward”

A most important realization for all of us.

I appreciate viewing familiar scenes through new POVs. This is a nice perception of Gimli's thoughts.

As if burning that scroll would in turn destroy the truth it contains. Foolish he is indeed! And he does not perceive that he, thinking to preserve the land and not necessarily the individuals within it, is indeed succumbing to foolishness! Prepare for the worst while hoping for the best and working with what actually comes to you is ever the wisest course.

Author Reply: I think you’re right… but I always imagine Denethor as a control freak and not being able to save or protect what he views as his makes him act foolishly… I know too many people like this…

I used to have several different colors of obsidian in my rock collection, but that was many years ago now. I love this look at Namo and his interview with Elrond. Delightful!

Author Reply:
I don’t have any rainbow obsidian in my rock collection because it’s kind of expensive and I haven’t been able to justify it… yet!

Good advice. As Glorfindel might also have told the youth but had not as yet, those who have not loved have not lived, either, no matter how long it might be they dwell upon the earth.

(BTW--whom is used in the objective tense, while who is used when it is the subject of the sentence. With whom will you go to the dance? Who is calling now? Watch out! The latent grammar teacher is getting loose in me!)

Author Reply: Thank you!

I actually know how to use ‘who’ and ‘whom’ (pronouns with subjective and objective forms are a leftover from Anglo-Saxon that are slowly fading from common usage and I sometime like to imagine how odd English will sound if it one day losses words like ‘him’ and ‘her’). However, the speech system I use to write with isn’t able to hear the distinction half the time (maybe my California accent throws it off?) or confuses one for the other (it also hilariously misunderstands most Elvish word despite all the times I’ve tried to train it). Unfortunately I tend to miss my grammar mistakes when I self-edit and my beta reader’s (a.k.a. my long-suffering husband) strong suit is math not English… hence all the errors in my stories that drive me crazy.

Oh my, this is perfectly marvelous. Such a gentle story, with just the right amount of humor. A wonderful tribute to Fiondil, who we all loved so very much.

I always enjoyed Fiondil’s take on the Valar and I wrote this not long after he passed.
