An Unexpected Adventure [IN HIATUS]  by KathyG 332 Review(s)

So the Witch King has landed on the battlefield. Jennifer could not know yet that her new friend Eowyn is going to be having a "Supergirl" adventure of her own! I am anxiously waiting for you to shift and let us see what is transpiring in the other threads of the story, as well. I agree with others who have said that you are blending your own AU elements and the book and movie stories rather well.

Author Reply: Not to worry--you will!

And yes, I agree about Eowyn. For that matter, Merry had his own "Superhobbit" adventure at the same time! =)

Thank you so much! I am so glad you are enjoying the story. K.G.

Author Reply: Yes, Jennifer's POV is a bit limited at the moment! And you will soon be seeing some other threads of the story, unlike JRRT, who made us wait a whole BOOK before seeing what was going on with the others! LOL!

And thanks for the compliment on our blending. It's not always easy. DF

LOL, I had foresight about Halbarad and I was right. Kaylee's rock did save him on the fields. Everything has been well blended so far.

Author Reply: Thank you! That means a lot to us. Yep, Kaylee's gift has saved his life!

Author Reply: One of the first things we decided between us, as we prepared to write the story, was that each child had something special to do. The one that stymied us most, was how could a little five year old make a difference. I hope you like the solution to that question! And yes, we did sort of telegraph the importance of the rock. A famous mystery writer (I forget who) once said that if a little detail is mentioned once, it's probably just a little detail; twice it may be a red herring. But three times means it is important to the story!

I'm glad you like our blending of the three different universes! DF

What an action-packed chapter! It's interesting to see these events, and these people, through such a fresh pair of eyes.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. K.G.

Author Reply: The next few chapters will very much be full of action. I hope that you like how it goes! DF

So, Joey is now a small part of Sauron's glimpse of the Fellowship. It will be interesting to see how this affects the attack on Minas Tirith.

Author Reply: Yes, it will, won't it? =) K.G.

Author Reply: Well, of course, it means Joey will be there, for one thing. You will soon find out how it goes in a few more chapters. DF

Ah! If he only knew! Heh!

Being a book-firster, I never understood the arrival of Lothlorien Elves at Helm's Deep, and rejoice Arwen's part in that move was excised. But I rejoice that Haleth has such a friend as Kevin.

Author Reply: Yes, Haleth is very fortunate in that respect.

Yes, this other way that the Elvish army was sent works better, doesn't it?

Author Reply: I wasn't so fond of the Elves at Helm's Deep, either, but there were some elements of that movie-sequence that suited our storyline better at that point, so we went with it. It turned out pretty well, I think. I'm sure Haldir likes our version better, anyway. ;-) DF

Author Reply: Actually, I like it that the Elves came to fight with the Rohirrim in the movie; I don't like it that Haldir was killed there! This way, Dreamflower and I could fix it so that he was saved from being killed in battle. K.G.

What an adventure these children have found themselves in! You're weaving everything together very well.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying it. K.G.

Author Reply: Thank you, Shirebound! It is sometimes difficult trying to keep the timelines straight, but it's worth it!

Nice blending of movie- and book-verses. Poor Joey--wanting to play with the huorns and being warned against it. But the orcs will have good reason to rue all the damage they've done to the trees of Isengard.

Author Reply: They certainly will, won't they? I'm glad you like the blending. K.G.

Author Reply: The orcs will pay dearly for their ravaging of the trees! DF

When Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane, hmm? I believe that's what Tolkien had in mind with this. *chuckles* And the Ents (and Huorns) are roused indeed and on the march, Merry, Pippin, Jennifer and Joey along for the ride! I do hope they'll be safe with all those Huorns about...

By the way, I've been creating a YouTube playlist for these chapter titles! I'm not sure if this link will work, but I'll try putting spaces and things in it: https : // www. youtube. com / playlist? list=PLybFeSsopR28oL2oAYVxVbKRgrFSDEu8E

Hope that works!

Author Reply: Hmm. I'll have to check out that URL when I get the chance! Intetesting reference to Birman Wood in Macbeth. Did you know that Tolkien disapproved of the way that Shakespeate set up the witches' prophecy to come true? He decided to improve on that by fixing it so that the woods really did move (and fight)!

Not to worry--the Ents will protect the children and hobbits from the Huorns!

Author Reply: I just love the playlist, sweetie! That is such a cool thing you did! DF

So the Misty Mountains must be crossed, of course, and it's a good thing they found that cave to camp out in! I've got "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" in my head now. Not a bad thing, of course! "Rudolph" the elf puts me in mind of "Elf Academy" and the reindeer named Gandalf, and I did notice the other nod to my atto indonyo. I think he'd approve. *hugs*

What to do about Saruman, indeed...of course he's Treebeard's neighbor, in a manner of speaking, but he's not the best neighbor in the world, to put it mildly! Heh!

And Aragorn, Aragorn, where HAVE you got to? This is not the time to disappear! Helm's Deep needs to be defended!!

Author Reply: I wish that Fiondil was alive to read this. One of the things I've long regretted is that I didn't get permission to become a story author here until he was dead. I'm glad you feel that he would like the reference to "Elf, Interrupted."

Yes, they do have to travel over the mountains, and thankfully, the cave is much safer to camp in now than it was when Bilbo and company attempted to spend the night there!

As for Saruman? I'll say he wasn't!

Aragorn had better show up, and quickly!

Author Reply: I join you in wishing that we could get Fiondil's reaction to this story! His comments were some that I always appreciated. DF

So the McClouds have set out from Imladris - suitably escorted, and with their little girls and Lucy along! I'm glad, though it will be a dangerous venture for them all. I wonder what way they'll be travelling? (I really hope they can make frumenty along the way, or when/if they ever get home. *I'd* like to try it, actually.)

It's good to see Treebeard taking care of Merry, Pippin, Jennifer and Joey as well as he can, too! That was a long journey, all those ent-strides! I wonder what effect the Ent-draught will have on the children? Knowing what it did to Merry and Pippin...if it has the same effect that'd be rather alarming for their parents!

Author Reply: Yes, wouldn't it be, though?! LOL! It would be rather difficult for the children to explain to their teachers and classmates how they grew so suddenly in just one week. [g]

Yep, the rest of the McClouds are on their way now! I'm sure that Steve, at least, would love to get a copy of their frumenty recipe. =)

Author Reply: The journey of the parents and little sisters is going to be one part of the tale that will be completely new to everyone! DF
