My Drabbles from Tolkien Weekly  by Mirkwoodmaiden 57 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: 16 on 5/3/2020
Oh, those dreams where you feel like your shouting at the top of your voice, and it comes out as a whisper, or the person you're shouting at doesn't seem to be able to hear you! ...juxtaposed with the reality (and relief) of rescue at the end. Nicely done!

And the second, from the father's perspective... the deep love, in the face of terrible consequences for a young boy's careless actions. I don't think Farry ever doubted his parents' love, and even when he laid plans to run away, it was because he knew his parents loved him, and not the opposite.

Thanks so much for letting me see these scenes through your eyes.

((hugs)) Stay safe!

Hello! So happy that you liked the drabbles I worried about doing your characterizations justice!

Stay safe ((hugs))

How I can appreciate how difficult it was to stop with but one vignette at this prompt. Especially love the final one, as Sam hears Frodo's laughter echoing in that of his son!

Most appropriate, the entire series.

Thanks! I wrote the first two and more just begged to written. The little plot bunnies just kept nipping at me until I had done. That bit where Sam thinks of Frodo laughing, the scene from Fellowship in the beginning at Bilbo's 111st birthday and Frodo is laughing when I think Sam is dancing with Rosie Cotton!

Yep!

Thanks again for writing~

And, oh, so changed he will be after tonight. He is learning far more seriously than Bilbo, that the choice to set foot outside the door is more than merely dangerous--it is frankly perilous!

I found myself tearing up several times in the reading. Poor Elrond, to have to watch a succession of short-lived descendants of his brother. And the contrast between the father Faramir experienced and the father he is obviously striving to be. And Thranduil, who finds in his son a reason to go on in the face of his mourning for his father. And Sam's thoughts at the end... So true.

((hugs)) I hope this finds you well!

The plot bunnies for the father and son drabbles just kinda would not let me rest until I had them written. I always feel for Elrond. With all that he has given and all that he had lost in the service of Middle Earth. Watching his brother's decendants grow old and die and coming to love Aragorn as his own son. It is heartbreaking.

I really wanted to show the contrast between Faramir as a son and as a father. All that he suffered would NOT be visited on his son.

Poor Thranduil, He loses his father and he lives on for his son. I truly do think that Legolas is what anchored him in Middle Earth rather than dying and going to the Halls of Mandos to be with his father and wife.

Sam, dear Sam, or as your wonderful Bill, calls him, My Sam. Frodo remains in his heart.

I wanted to write one for Thain Pippin and young Farry, borrowing your characterizations but I hadn't asked your permission first. So I haven't written it yet.

Thanks for writing!

Keep well, mellon nin!

Oh, such wonderful memories she was will carry, with the blessings earned by her husband and Frodo.

Author Reply: Yup! A nice simple drabble about the little moments in life that matter most.

To see that time was touching Bilbo so must have hurt him terribly.

Author Reply: This prompt was "spectacles". The Quest changed so much, mostly for good. But some good things had to end as well. As Frodo slowly realises. Sad.

A terrible mfemory to carry.

Author Reply: I know. The prompt for this one was "Horseshoe". Obviously thought of the Rohirrim and Eomer's father died when he was young. It just came together like this. Very hard to lose a parent or both in Eomer and Eowyn's case so young.

What a blessing, to study the stars under such a teacher!

Author Reply: So very true! I have been meaning to write some about Estel and Glorfindel as his teacher, just haven't gotten around to it yet!

This helped redeem him, I am certain.

This helped redeem him, I am certain.

Author Reply: I think so! I remember reading somewhere Maedhros tired of his oath and all the blood at some point. It was a true madness.
