Awards

This is a record of the Tolkien fan-fiction awards our stories and authors were nominated for. It was last updated by Nilmandra on 13 October 2006; most of these awards have since closed and their sites are gone.

There were a growing number of awards for Tolkien fanfiction, and many of the stories and authors at Stories of Arda were nominated. Stories of Arda did not sponsor any awards and was not affiliated with any of the sponsoring sites.

Mithril Awards

Who could nominate: Anyone. Who could vote: A panel of judges shortlisted and voted on stories in each category, with voter's choice categories open to everyone.

"The Mithril Awards were established to honour excellence in fiction, poetry and critical essays relating to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and other works by JRR Tolkien. All material freely available on the web in English is eligible for awards, regardless of rating, genre, subject matter, category and source (book or movie), with the exception of actor fic/RPS."

MEFAwards (Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards)

Who could nominate and vote: Members of the MEFAwards Yahoo Group, and nominated authors.

The MEFAs sought to recognise good fanfiction set in the Middle-earth created by JRR Tolkien. Unlike most contests they were comment-based: the longer the comment, the more points the story or author earned. They accepted drabbles, poems, stories and essays rated G to R, including works in progress and self-nominations.

Aníron Awards

Who could nominate: Anyone. Who voted: A group of judges.

The story of Aragorn, son of Arathorn, and Arwen Undómiel, the elf maiden who forsook her people and the destiny of her kind for love of him, is one of Tolkien's greatest and most underrated masterpieces. The Aníron Awards were a celebration of that story and the best works of fan fiction inspired by it.

Golden Mushroom Awards

Who could nominate and vote: Anyone.

"The purpose of these awards is to promote companionship among the authors and readers of hobbit fanfiction, by allowing us to poke a little fun at ourselves!"

MPA (My Precious Awards)

Who could nominate: Members of the site's Yahoo groups, or by emailing the hostess. Who could vote: Anyone.

A Halloween-themed show, posted the Saturday before Halloween.

Galvorn Awards

For Silmarillion-based fics and adjacent writings that stood out in any way conceivable by the participant.
