Well, let's see. The cussing.... okay, in chapters ten and thirteen, you cussed. In chapter 10, you made Glorfindel call Mordrauth a 'bastard'. Well, actually, I gues that depends on where you live. I live in California (USA) and bastard is considered cussing. In chapter thirteen, you attempted to cuss. See, here's the quote: “Why you backstabbing son of a....” And finally, in one more chapter, you made someone call Mordrauth a 'bastard' again. Well, actually, before you tell me that I'm wrong, where do you live? Because that probably makes a difference in which words are cuss words and which ones aren't.
Good day,
L.S. ^_^
Once again, I enjoyed every single word of your story. You are a talented writer. ^_~
Author's reply
I live in Texas now, but I lived in Louisiana when I wrote this story. Bastard is one of those words that may or may not be considered a cuss word, depending on how it's used. I used it, because I felt that the situation required a strong word like that, and I refuse to use worse ones. The quote you gave stopped short of the full phrase, for the same reason: I don't use genuine cuss words or phrases.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the compliment.

WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I'm finally done with the story!!!! I reallly liked it, it was pretty angsty, and I noticed that in all your stories it's always Legolas that gets hurt. As in the case of "Dragonfire" (though Aragorn suffered too), and "It Was Only a Little White Lie". What I didn't like in this story was the cussing. I thought the site owner said that you have to use appropriate language.
Oh well, see you during your next update of "Dragonfire".
-Lady Saruman :P (i'm all pooped out)
Author's reply
i'm glad you liked it. It was full of angst, I know. That's just he way it came out with one thing leading to another. Legolas is my favorite character, so he's always the one getting the worst of everything. (You always hurt the ones you love.) He can handle it, though, and come out on top, as he ultimately did in this story.
What cussing are you referring to? I don't remember using any bad language in this story.

This was an excellent story. It rates in the top 3 of my favorite fan fics. third only to "A Little Nudge Out of the Door" and "Leaf and Branch." Please keep writing, I'm planning on starting "Black Mountain" tomorrow. I really enjoyed your story. There's just a couple of your l's that are semicolons in the later chapters.
Thanks for writing such a wonderful piece, I hope Black Mountain is just as good. ;D

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I have read both of those stories you mentioned, and I am honored to have my story included with them.
I hope you will enjoy "Black Mountain". I plan on updating it next week.
As for the semi-colon errors, I try to edit out mistakes, but some of the little buggers always manage to get past me.

I thought you might be pleased that all ended well with our elf. After all I had put him and the others through, I just couldn't bring myself to have anything but a happy ending. :o)

Author's reply
Thank you, nat. I am go happy that you found all the things that you like in my story. I worked hard to get all of that in, plus humor and, of course, angst. I'm glad the length of it didn't put you off. As for good Thranduil: that's the only way I see him and the only way I would ever write him.
Don't be sorry, I definitely do not want to be rid of you. I look forward to your reviews of "Black Mountain". See you soon.

I remember Chapter 21 as containing Legolas's letter to his father. I didn't intend on being mean, I just wanted to bring out that kind of emotion in my readers. Keep going, and you'll continue to see what I mean. :o)

This was a wonderful story, and you have a way with language, as well as lovely style. Despite all my plans and the things I had to do yesterday, once I had started this, I kept creeping back into my room to read further. In the end, I actually forced myself to stay up until 4:30 in the morning, just because I couldn't bear the thought of stopping before I finished.
I'm looking forward to reading Black Mountain, though I'll most likely force myself to wait until it is finished to start. If I couldn't mangage to take many breaks from this one, I don't think I could stand the wait between chapters. ;-)
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your story with us.

Thank you, Layton Colt for you very kind words. It is thrilling to know you found my story worthy of losing sleep. That is a real compliment.

I did at times think the end would never come, but when I saw the epilogue posted I was like O.O "already?!?!?" Would really like to see Estel and Legolas get back at Elladan and Elrohir...Great to see Legolas out and about again especially in the trees again =)
Loved your whole story, even enduring the utter feeling of helplessness a lot of the way through and those cliffhangers of your ;) Will be on the lookout for your next story, hope to see you then =)

Author's reply
At times I wondered myself, if I'd ever get to the end.
I still may write about the revenge on the twins in a later story. I'm not sure yet.
I knew all along that I was going to have a happy ending. I put poor Legolas through so much pain, both physically and mentally, that I had to bring joy back to his life. It's funny. I had the basics of the Epilogue planned long before I had a lot of the other things planned. I knew Legolas would get back to the garden and the trees.
I'm glad you loved the story. If all goes well, I will be posting the new one next week. See you then.

I have only recently discovered fanfiction. Have been avidly reading ever since. This is a great story - and such faithfully detailed characterizations. This is my first review to anyone. I loved every minute of reading but I must learn, a) not to log on during working hours and b) turn off in time to get a semi-decent amount of sleep. Keep up the brilliant work White Wolf and thanks for the 'entertainment'.
Author's reply
I feel honored that you chose my story to review first. I'm sure it won't be long before you are reviewing up a stern.
Thank you for your king words. I try hard to keep the characters faithful to the ones people enjoy reading about in Tolkien's books. Of course, the Legolas-Aragorn friendship is pretty much a creation of fanfiction writers, but that makes it so much fun to write about. We aren't locked into pre-written events.
I hope you don't get into trouble or lose too much sleep. I love reading fanfiction and have a number of stories I'm reading right now.
Thank you again. I hope you will join me for my next story, "Black Mountain". I hope to start posting it next week.

i cant believe that this story is over. Its a really awesome story, with lots and lots of surprises. What will " Black Mountain" be about, or will we have to find out later? Hope to hear from you soon.

Author's reply
Yes, it is over. I can't quite believe it, either. I'm so glad you liked it. I'm also glad I wasn't predictable. Awesome is a wonderful compliment. Thank you.
Since you asked, I'll give you the summary for "Black Mountain".
No one in the history of Middle-earth has ever returned from the mysterious Black Mountain. Now the mountain, silent for centuries, appears to be waking up, and Aragorn thinks its about time that he and Legolas go there and investigate. Elladan and Elrohir join them for the adventure.
I hope that sounded interesting enough to entice you to join me, when I start posting it in another week or two.

(content sigh)Loved it all, from the suspense of Aragorn carrying Legolas into Rivendell to the tear jerking letter Legolas writes to his father, the big death scene, battling Mordraug. All of it Genius, pure Eru given talent-looking forward to the next epic.Huzzah!
Author's reply
A contented reader. That was my goal. I'm so glad you liked the story. You picked out a couple of my favorites: the letter to Thranduil and what I call Legolas's spirit flight (ch. 27). I was also proud of how truly evil I managed to make Mordraug. I just love a good villain, especially when he gets his just deserts.
Genius? You are making me blush. Thank you.
I hope to start posing "Black Mountain" in another week or two. See you then.

hey i just wanna say how much i enjoyed your story it was so good one minute you think everything is back to normal and then everything goes wrong its like an emotional rollercoaster and physical tidal waves it was very dark in places but light in the end and there is good description which helps you to picture the wholes scene but i guess it also helps if you have a vivid imagination like me lol:)do another like it please!!
Author's reply
I'm so glad you liked my story. I set out to write one that would take a lot of twists and turns, so I could keep my readers a bit off balance. I didn't want to be too predictable. The story, as a whole, was so dramatic, I had to add bits of humor, partly as a breather from the traumas and partly because I think the friendship between Legolas and Estel was full of humor.
I'm also glad you like my writing style. I hope you will join me for my next story. I hope to start posting it in another week or two.

Well it has been a long haul! But I think you grew stronger as a writer as you worked your way through it. You managed your plot nicely and kept your characters interesting. Wonderful job.
Author's reply
Yes, it has been a long haul. I think we, as writers, are always trying to improve, not just from story to story but also within each story. I worked hard to keep the characters interesting enough to make the reader continue to care about how the plot affected them throughout the story. I'm happy that you think I succeeded. Such kind words coming from a writer I admire so much is both thrilling and encouraging. Thank you.

Thank you. I have enjoyed this story. Now if I were Thranduil I would take Legolas home and lock him up very securely in a well-padded room for a few years! (Perhaps Elrond should do the same with 3E aka, Elladan Elrohir Estel.)
I'm surprised they still have all their hair!
Author's reply
You are most welcome. I'm so Glad you enjoyed the story.
You and Thranduil probably have the same idea about putting Legolas some place where he will be safe.

Ahhhhhh...*deep sigh of relief* I loved the ending the that chapter!!! "Will you braid my hair for me?" Perfect way to end the chapter =)
I knew Thranduil would never be ashamed of Legolas, but then again, I think the only person who didn't know that was Legolas =P but he knows now and everything is STILL happy!!!! *gasp* haha, kidding =P I am almost done reading Elven Song and although I do like the story, I don't really see Thranduil as how he is portrayed in it.
Can't wait for more!! POST SOON!!
Author's reply
I'm glad you are relieved. I agree the ending was pretty neat. I thought that the symbolism was called for on two levels: Legolas knew he would be a warrior again, and it was also a further bonding of father and son.
Legolas had gone so deep into despair he felt that he would be a disappointment to Thranduil's high standards and pride in him. I'm so glad he was wrong about his father's reaction. I dearly love Thranduil. He's tough and temperamental, but he's a great father and a great king.
I love "Elven Song", but I agree that Jocellyn's Thranduil is not exactly the way I perceive him. If you want to read about a great Thranduil, read daw the minstrel's stories of Legolas growing up (with two older brothers, who are great characters, too). There are quite a number of stories, but each and every one is terrific. She has them all listed in order on her bio/stories page. Lot's of good reading. In case you are wondering, she didn't pay me to say all that. :o)
More soon.

A gem among gems, wonderfully written how aragorn saw legolas as a hero;brings a tear how a mortal watched his immortal pal croak(sorry for lack of elegance)The line where Legolas asks Thranduil to re-do his braids is awesome in the delivery, Wolf Superioir job as usual!Rah!
Author's reply
Thank you so very much. I thought the request Legolas made to Thranduil to rebraid his hair was the best way to end the chapter.
I think any time a mortal, who understands and cares about elves, sees an immortal life snuffed out (that's not too elegant, either), it is very traumatic. When it's your best friend, well...
Thanks again.
