Ooooooooooooooooooo wowsa...lots to think about there. Poor Legolas, I wonder how this is all gonna turn out. "Words there would be..." and those words I look forward to. *grin* Legolas did have a point though, with the fact that Glorfindel had lived in a hidden city and then in a hidden valley. Quite curious and another thing I have never thought of before. Hm. I am shaking in anicipation for what's gonna happen next. Legolas needs a talk...>:) ~Ammie~

Amanalda · 3 September 2004 · Chapter 4: The Road Ahead

Sorry about that other review, I don't know what happened there. *scratches head* Ah well. :) *chuckles* Good old Elladan and Elrohir. I've always loved those two, and I always enjoy hearing their opinions on things. I'm just wondering what the whole story was behind their last misadventure...*laughs* that sounds facinating. :D What does all the elvish mean? *lip quivers* Alright, I'll just hope into the CoE where I'm assuming you got it from. :) Sounds right good to me! So he's finally starting his journey home. YAY!! Oh I can't wait to see what happens next, so I musn't wait and I must dive into the next one. *grins and waves* ~Ammie~

Amanalda · 3 September 2004 · Chapter 3: Ride With Me

Awwwwww...that was so awesome. Gimli always serves to shine a different light on things which I adore. It's his dwarvishness I suppose. ;) Thinking things from, in my opinion, a hilarious point of view. I am just dying to see what's going to happen between him and Thranduil... MWAHAHAHAHA!! That's going to be very interesting. :D I think it's just a stitch that he likes Galadriel. I mean, I feel sorry for him that he does; but still it's just...fun to play around with and read about. :) Now my brain might just not be working right now, but who was it that Legolas was thinking about that helped him settle down his dislike between the Wood and the Mountain? (love that by the way. *wink* Wood and the Mountain...) Again, rocking job on Legolas! ~Ammie~

Amanalda · 3 September 2004 · Chapter 2: Beneath the Stars

Ooooooooooo wow I enjoyed that. *HUGE grin* I simply love how you portray Eomer's character. I've always pitied him greatly, seeing as he was tossed the crown so quickly after his Uncle's death. That's a blow. And then his sis is getting married and Theodred having kicked the bucket...man. But this talk was really facinating. It just captures me the way they talk and phrase things. *laughs* You do such a good job with that. The one thing that totally caught me off guard was the fact that Eomer really was never introduced to the fact (as far as we know) that Legolas was indeed the son of Thranduil, and therefore the prince of Mirkwood. Total awesomeness. *grin* Oh I looooove that name the Rohirrim gave Thranduil! Dernhere...that is so COOL!! I never really thought of the fact that if they feared Galadriel as a witch, they would probably think of Thranduil as something along those lines. I mean, not as a witch but certainly as something that he is not. *laughs* Whatever it is. But Dernhere -- secret warrior. *squeals* LOVE IT!! Ooooooon to the next chappie! ~Ammie~

Amanalda · 3 September 2004 · Chapter 1: Not Forgotten

Beautiful!! Oh Coriel that chapter was priceless! All the roles and personalities of the characters were just sickningly well done. All their emotions and the way they took things were just how I imagined them being done. Legolas was done applause-provokingly well. And so was Aragorn. It's kinda cool to know that there actually is a person underneith the 'king' stuff. ;) I thought that was soooooo cool how you made Aragorn's gift be his own little part of Ithilien. Ooooo that was awesome. I've never read anything before that's actually had a part where Legolas is given that. It fits. Very well. :D I just can't wait till Legolas gets home...hehehahahaha. I also really enjoyed the parts with Legolas and the tree and the merlin. Good old Eldar. :D Gotta love that race. See ya next chappie! ~Ammie~

EomerofEastfold · 1 September 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Hey, way to tell Darkness Lady, Coriel! Gosh, that was an absentminded and pathetic attempt at even a bad review, wasn't it? To **** with her and her dilusions. I know, I know, shame on me for reading reviews and not the story. I'll get to it one of these days, I swear. But, upon seeing 18 reviews at the end, I had to take a peek at them. Eomer of Eastfold, who wishes his stories could get 18 reviews.

Author's reply

Thanks! Hey, no problem. ^_^ I've actually been meaning to have a peek at something of yours too, after hearing Chigger talk about them so much. (If we had Internet access in the dorm it would be easier to get some reading in.) I think Rohan would seem wonderfully straightforward after Plato and Socrates. ;)

lily · 17 August 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

I hope your not reffering to Legolas as a gay elf who would talk like some kind of madman who is a swot.He is so cute you could mistake his cutness for that of a puppy!I think I have portrayed my wonderful opinion on Legolas and I hope you make him a lot less a swot in future stories. Yours sincerly Darkness lady Ruler of Mordor(apart from that jerk Sauron) P.S. Thranduil is such a jerk! His wife(or lover)wouldn't up and leave him for no reason!!!! P.P.S. I have just realised that she left MY! cute darling Legolas for his poor ,possibly drunken madman, father to look after.I see your point.Do not bother bothering me again.I have to accept Legolas's proposal to me and so have wedding plans to consider.Bye

Author's reply

Excuse me? I don't think you have portrayed much of anything in this poor excuse for a review, save a wonderful aptitude for wasting my time. Even now I'm not sure I can make sense of your inadequately-expressed position, but I gather it is not complimentary. I must say that "swot" was not included in my vocabulary to this point, but I did go to the trouble to look it up and still don't see how you assign the term to my Legolas (if you are indeed using it correctly). I do not intend to change my characterization of Thranduil's son one whit, especially not on your behalf, nor do I understand just what seeming faults you are up in arms about. Not that I particularly care. That you include "or lover" in parentheses makes it evident you know very little about Elves in general, "Darkness lady". And so far as I am concerned, there are several good reasons that would necessitate Thranduil's supposed separation from his wife, NONE of which involve abuse or estrangement of any kind. Don't smear the Elves with vices of your own imagining. Hey, who's bothering who here? If you can't scrape up anything more constructive or coherent to say, I would recommend that you refrain from bothering any author with a pathetic and insulting review of this stripe, deserving of no more than a virtual garbage can. If you do not mind, I will be removing this thoughtless blot from my page once I give anyone who cares to look an ample chance to read my reply. Coriel P.S. I do hope you are no older than I am, because if you are, you have some serious issues, my friend. I would hope an adult would be capable of better than this. Grow up someday, will you?

Rochwen · 14 August 2004 · Chapter 3: Ride With Me

Madam Coriel, Again, I love where this fic is going. The humility you perceive in Legolas is evident in everything. You can see that he wasn't raised to tower above others, or rely on others to do his own menial chores. I thought having him save the maid a bit of trouble was a nice touch. Also, I love the bit of humor in this chapter. Mind, it's not fall-off-the-chair-laughing humor. It's just enough to make you snort, but not take you away from the generally dramatic feel of the story. I enjoyed Gimli's take on the way Legolas acts, as well. I hope there will be a lot of character reflections on Legolas's behavior. One last thing: I'm sensing that this fic will turn into a journey fairly soon. That means horses. I know I'm taking a huge liberty (because you might be an expert), but if you ever have any questions or need info on our equine friends, I'm your girl. (Because I know how much everything you do depends on research). Your Humble Servant, Rochwen

Author's reply

Actually this bit was inspired by the way my dad leaves hotels, and as an airline captain he gets to see a lot of them. He reminds me of Legolas in more ways than one. :) Ah, far from an expert! But we did have horses for two short years, and I learned a lot. So, I think I can handle the basics alright, but if I ever have a tough question I'll remember you. ;)

Rochwen · 14 August 2004 · Chapter 1: Not Forgotten

Madam Coriel, Immediately after finishing your essay on anti-Evil! Thranduil, I started this story, hoping to find the same eloquent speech and thought provoking insights. I am glad to say that I was not disappointed. Though this tale obviously focuses on Legolas, I hope Thranduil will come into play sooner or later. Legolas has to be one of my favorite characters, so I'm extremely excited to finally find another fanfic that does not include slash, torture, "teenage-girl-dropped-into-Middle-Earth-Syndrom", et cetera. Oddly enough, the single line that stood out most to me was, " To me it seems you walk again in the spirit of your kinsman of old, Beleg Cúthalion, rightly named the truest of friends." This is quite simply because I used near the exact same description in a small story I wrote for my own enjoyment. I'd never dare put any of my written-between-classes stories (or any others) up for others to read. Please continue to write, Your Humble Servant, Rochwen

Author's reply

Thanks! Rest assured, you will find no slash, torture, "teenage-girl-dropped-into-Middle-Earth-Syndrom", etc. with my name on it. ;) Legolas and Beleg do have a good deal in common! I had just decided he was my favorite character in Silmarillion when suddenly he met his frustrating demise. So, since there was nothing canon to the contrary, I couldn't help but to make him a blood relation of some sort, and decided to have Legolas' mother be Beleg's niece. I'll write when I can, if you'll please continue to read and enjoy! And, yes, Thranduil commands a significant part of his own when Legolas finally gets home, so now you have something to look forward to. :D ~ Coriel

mistry89 · 3 August 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Am very late in reading the last few chapters, but am no less an ardent admirer of this story. Thank you very much for this very beliveable "after the lights went out" adventure. You finished it beautifully without locking doors or snipping the tied ends. I am a fan of the incidental moments and expressions of character that so make a story breathe ..... Gimli and bathing, eating habits, looking-glasses, hairiness, and how the least likeable traits of dwarves and elves are truly those of humanity. I've been a fangirl of Thranduil's since I read The Hobbit at 8, and I've enjoyed your portrayal of him -and the idea of him being able to outwait, if not outwit, Gloin seems so fitting :). I don't feel too sorry for Legolas, despite injury (physical and social), temporary relocation underground, and apparent failure in his (own) mission. He bore up well, and if he revealed a few more emotions to the company, at least Kali and Gimli are on side ...... oh, I commiserate on the kiss, however! Thanks again.

Author's reply

Thanks. ;) It was that reality I was aiming for, and life doesn't always provide ideal endings. But this particular problem can wait a few years more before they tackle it again. I think I'll be a fangirl of Thranduil's for the rest of my life. Wish I had more time to work on his story! Thanks for reading. :D

lwarren · 23 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

SIGH!!!! What an ending! Legolas gets a kiss from Kali, and gives one in return! :-0 I'm glad Scatha gets a new home in the Wood, and that Legolas turned down the load of treasure Thorin would have sent as an apology (even if Thranduil will probably have a fit about that!) Your closing statements about the three kindreds living together in the new age, before they all faded and the world changed was a terrific way to end this journey of the elf and dwarf. But of course, the Valar forbid that any of the others ever learn that Legolas kissed a dwarf! *vbg* That's right, *sniff*, leave us laughing *sniff, sniff*! I hope your school year is a successful and rewarding one, and I'll be looking forward to WWYO (which I see you have updated *YAY!* and I must go review RIGHT NOW!) linda

Author's reply

I had the ending in mind for a long time before I perfected it, and so I just wrote it as it happened. Sometimes they surprise even me. :) I'm currently recharging my mind in anticipation of the upcoming school year. I really wasn't surprised to learn "curriculum" was Latin for a race course. I need to get that homework finished and listen to some loud music. Or I could just watch Spider-Man again. Brain candy. ;)

lwarren · 23 July 2004 · Chapter 38: A King's Ransom

I had written the LONGEST review of this chapter because there was soooo much in it that I just loved...and this #*!*# computer just erased the whole thing! So I'm going to make this short before I pick up the baseball bat over in the corner and beat this thing to death!!! Legolas "at large" in the mountain - now there's a thought! Legolas - pugnacious? The image that word paints boggles the mind! Legolas on Nain's punishment - GOOD! (I concur!) "You old gremlin!" you go, Kali! "No mortal had ever outlasted him in a duel of wills." - You know, being immortal does have its advantages! :-) mules in the form of Elves (or dwarfs, as the case may be) - everybody has them, I guess! "To keep company with the horses...I find them simpler companions." - Amen. And my favorites that underscored the importance of this trip to Legolas _ "Legolas had worked too hard already seeing this alliance established to let a splinter strike it a death blow." and "This wine is still new, and I am willing to wait a few years for it to mellow." He is so patient and optimistic about the whole venture...and willing to do what ever it takes to see it succeed, if not now, then in the future. That is a real friend! I can just see him pulling Gimli aside after giving Gloin the Sereguren as payment for the debt, and saying, "Can I cook, or can't I?" I remember you saying that this story was about 40 chapters...I sense the end is coming quickly...I will try to act like an adult about it *wails loudly in distress*...then again, maybe NOT! linda

Author's reply

Oh, I hate it when they do that! I remember when ours put a real crimp in my work by blacking out the monitor intermittently. Usually a few firm slaps would bring the lights back on, but eventually we had mild-mannered Daddy literally standing on the desk and beating the e-snot out of it. We fingally gave up and got a new monitor. :) I'm sure even the nicest Elves have bad days now and then. The Dwarves have left a definite impression on Legolas, but they haven't intimidated him much. ;)

lwarren · 22 July 2004 · Chapter 37: The Thunder Rolls

Ai! I am so far behind on reviewing this and it is my favorite!! During the summer I don't have access to a computer daily, and it is KILLING me!!! Ah well, enough of that...now to review this chapter - I really like Thorin - firm, no nonsense, large and IN CHARGE, no doubt about it! He was fair and meted out some good, old-fashioned justice, especially to that jerk Nain! I can only feel relief at Legolas' decision to leave...and come back in a year or three when life and limb would not be so threatened! Time to cut the losses before they become too great...besides, Gimli will be in Aglarond without his father, and the two friends can visit to their hearts' content! It is just a shame that the dwarfs as a whole couldn't quit living in the past, and make more reasonable judgments. Great chapter - I could really get a sense of Legolas' discouragement as he was talking with the man and petting Briar. Poor elf! linda

Author's reply

"Divide and conquer" is still the best strategy now that the direct assault is flagging. :) Aglarond will probably be a better environment.

Firnsarnien · 18 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Wow! What an end! Though it didn't end quite like I wanted it to, it was very satisfying none the less. Bittersweet in a way despite the fact that Gimli's mother was one of the few that welcomed Legolas from the heart. I'm glad at least, Gimli and Legolas had that. I am still a bit miffed and saddened at Gloin's stubbornness and disregard of Legolas. He should have been there to say goodbye along side his wife. But, perhaps as Gimli's mother said, in a few years time he will remember his manners. I sure hope so! And I'm also glad to see Scatha going home with Legolas. I'm sure that little creature will be much happier with the Elves and their trees than stuck in a dark, dank cave wearing collars and bracelets and ridiculous clothes! LOL Well, at last, this wonderful story has come to an end. I'm truly saddened by that fact. So, I can only hope you give us another one soon, preferably on that continues on where this one left off. Of course though, I will take anything you care to give us! :) Can't wait for the next one and thanks for the ride! :) It was fun!

Author's reply

Sometimes you never know how these things will end. Gloin did prove more difficult than I had intended, but that happens when you have character muses with a will of their own. ;)

Joana · 13 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

I always feel a little weird after I finish a book or a story that I enjoyed... I guess - half relieved/half nostalgic. The ending was just perfect, it couldn't have been better. I loved it this fiction and I would like to thank Elenora for recomending it to me and also you for writing it. I wish you tons of luck with school and I hope you write some real books in the future (if you haven't already). It was a pleasure to read it! :)

Author's reply

I've been there before; I guess it all depends on what I was reading. :) I do plan to be an author/historian, so we'll see what bunny bites after I finish my history major. A novel around Queen Isabel the Crusader Queen sounds promising. But even then I probably won't be able to resist dropping in to play with the Elves now and again. ;)

sheraiah · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

This one just screams for a sequel, Coriel. Wiping his mouth on his sleeve after how many minutes? Brilliant writing all the way through the story and a wonderful plot. This definitely ranks as one of my favorite post-quest stories.

Author's reply

Wow, I'm flattered! The sequel may have to wait a while, but I'll consider it. :)

Tinnuial · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

That ending was just priceless!!! I think it was a good few moments before I could pick myself off the floor and type up this review. Another absolutely splendid story under your belt and I thank you for it. (Can't wait for the next one!) You characterised everyone so perfectly and this will always be on my favourites list. Thank you!!!

Author's reply

Glad you liked it! The response of the readers here has been amazing, and if it weren't for y'all this probably wouldn't have gotten past Rohan. So, thank *you*!

Ithildin · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Well done, Coriel. I very much enjoyed reading this story. You have quite a talent and I thank you for sharing it with us. I look forward to the continuation of "We Were young Once" as time allows. :) Blessings, Ithildin *(

Author's reply

"As time allows" is right. :) But I'm giving it my best shot! I hadn't read WWYO since I posted it so long ago, and it entertained me all night yesterday. :D So that will be how I employ my spare time between my literature assignment and studying for the grammar diagnostic. (I hear most people flunk that, but I'd rather not have the extra class.) Thanks for reading!

Elena Tiriel · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

This has been an excellent story, Coriel... well worth the time to read it. I am sorry to see it end, and hope that you will share your talent with us again in the future. Good luck at school, I am sure you will do extremely well! - Barbara

Author's reply

I hope so! My parents are wanting me to earn more scholarships. :) I'll try to drop in as often as I can. All this has been invaluable practice in writing in general, and now I hear that I can probably get an on-campus job in something called the Writing Lab editing other students' work and giving composition tips. Sounds worth looking into. :) Thanks again for reading!

songspinner · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Oh, heavens. :) I needed that ending after the day I've had...Nicely ended and nicely written. I've always wondered what that set of meetings would have been like, and I think you created a detailed and somewhat humorous version of dwarf culture..

Author's reply

It was the best I could do. ;) Dwarves remain essentially a mystery to me. Never could make Gloin behave, but they'll deal with him in their own good time. Glad I could brighten your day! It did me some good too, finishing this monster.

nat · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

he he he i LUV the last line....totally classic way to end a GREAT fic!!! i luved it soooo much...you write these characters very well...kudos!! and u gave legolas a monkey!! i will always adore u for that!! eek monkey!!

Author's reply

I've always wanted a monkey. I've heard some people keep those things in Brazil, but we have to make due with a cat right now. ;) Thanks for reading!

Rose Sared · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Bravo, bravo. Take a bow and this bunch of flowers. Take another bow. Wonderful story, wonderful vision. You know how I have loved this, but I say again, thank you. You did good. Now back to the homework so you can think up another epic. Rose

Author's reply

*Thank you, thank you.* ^_^ Right; when I get tired of the antics of Agamemnon, Paris, and Aphrodite (which is quite often), I slip back to the computer to play with Thranduil, who holds much more of my affection. Thankfully I've always been a Reading Comprehension whiz. I'll have the assignment done in plenty of time. ;)

sofia · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

good story. I seem to be attached to Scatha. You had a great, humorous ending. -sofia

Author's reply

My sister thinks Scatha is the most fun she's ever heard of. :)

mer · 12 July 2004 · Chapter 39: Small Victories

Coriel- I am so sad to see this story end. I liked the rather lighthearted last line. I do hope you write more but I also appreciate your honesty regarding the possibility that you will be too busy. Good luck with everything!

Author's reply

I imagine I will be VERY busy for the next four years and beyond. But I will try to keep the writing going in what spare time I can find. This story nearly drowned me, but we found the end at last! Time for new projects. ;) As always, thanks for reading! The reader/reviewers made all the difference in the world here.
