Unexpected twists and interesting new characters, your imagination is very fertile ground indeed. I enjoyed it immensely.

Calime · 28 July 2004 · Chapter 14: City of the Wraiths

I just couldn't discipline myself to wait for the story at TORC, and I'm glad of it. Up to this point your quest has followed a winding, but emotionally satisfying path; now it is getting exciting! In this chapter you did an excellent job of uping the tension and then backing off again to let us suffer/recover a bit. ;) I love it! On to the next!

Nivina · 15 July 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

I haven't been around for quite a while, but now I finally found the time to finish this gem of a story, and the only complain I have that there are not enough tissues around! This was such an awesome journey you took Frodo and all of us on. And this ending is so sweet, so sad, so peaceful. I think I'm not done yet with crying... This is definitely one of the few stories I will re-read over and over again. Thank you so, so much for sharing your gift with us. *HUGS* :)

Thank *you* so much for such encouraging words, Nivina! I guess there can't be a more delightful thing for any writer to hear, than that someone thinks her story is worth re-reading - that just touches my heart and makes me feel all warm inside. God bless you. jo

Debowyn · 26 June 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

Wow. I got up at 5:15 this morning to finish this story. I haven't cried so much on a story in a very, very long time. This is truly a gem and in my mind, Frodo will wander with Radagast instead of going to the Grey Havens. I loved the orcs and look forward to a story with Canohando and his future. Thanks so much for this wonderful tale!!

Hi Debowyn - Thank you so much - your review really brightened my day. And I'm glad you got to love the orcs, because I have to admit that I did too... the little vignette I had in mind to finish Canohando's story has morphed into a many-chaptered novelette with no end yet in sight. jo

yrchgrrrl · 16 June 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

Wow! What a delightful, different story! I always thought Radagast was a sadly underutilized character to be a wizard, and you did an excellent job of fleshing him out. While on one hand it was sad that Frodo didn't get to make the journey West, on the other side it was good for his soul that he got to be part of the healing of Middle-earth, even the orcs. Thanks for sharing such an imaginative tale that no doubt the Professor himself would enjoy! :)

Oh my. You made me cry. What a wonderful story! How could I have missed it until now?

daw the minstrel · 15 June 2004 · Chapter 33: A Detour On the Way

It strikes me that Aragorn must have some sympathy for Frodo when he says that he has spent half his life wandering the wilderness and so is uncomfortable with court ceremonies.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 26: Light-bearer

Ah! I wondered if these orcs would find mates. I am so glad for Lash.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 23: Change of Direction

Given the importance of music in Tolkien, I love what you're doing here with it.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 21: The Green Country

All I can say is, I hope this is true: "In all of Ea there is a tilt that favors life and lovingkindness" Your story makes this point in the person of Radagast.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 14: City of the Wraiths

One detail I really liked in this chapter was that they found the old Elven boat that Aragorn had hidden. It seems like a artifact of a different time, speaking of hurry, and fear, and the contrast to the peace of now is nice.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 11: The Lord of the Glittering Caves

Mugs of beer?! Mugs of beer came out of the sack? I love it. And it took the dirty dishes too. I was actually wondering when Radagast left Rhosgobel. You say it was when the Nazgul came to Dol Guldur (at least, I think that's what you say). Is there canon support for that? It's plausible. This seems like a good place for Nano to me. I am afraid I am such a mom, though, that I want there to be someone to love him as well as teach him.

daw the minstrel · 14 June 2004 · Chapter 10: A Question of Truth

I'm glad Frodo told Nano who he really was, but how funny that the child already knew! He's no fool.

daw the minstrel · 13 June 2004 · Chapter 8: Land's End

Frodo's caution around water is understandable, given what happened to his parents. I was thinking as I read this chapter and the last one that it's the kind of chapter I write with The Atlas of Middle-earth lying open next to me. "[s]he cooked the meal; the least we can do is eat it!" This is going to be posted next to my husband's place at the table. The ending of this chapter brought me to tears.

daw the minstrel · 13 June 2004 · Chapter 6: Escape

Radagast certainly got that one right: too bad men are less grateful than wolves. Actually, if you think about dogs (since I've never had anything to do with wolves), they are nicer than lots of people. Nano is a little scary in his fury. I hope his heart is healed too.

daw the minstrel · 13 June 2004 · Chapter 3: Bronwe Athan Harthad

I forgot to say how much I liked Radagast's bottomless sack and your continued demonstration of how Frodo evokes loyalty in his friends. The parallel between him and the vixen was nicely done.

daw the minstrel · 13 June 2004 · Chapter 1: Father Bird

I found this story through the Mithril semi-finalists' list and also through the recommendation of Rose Sared, and I have to say, I'm very glad I did. I was interested first because Radagast has put in a tiny appearance in two of my stories, but you put me so much to shame! Your Radagast remindes me in a way of Brother Caedfael. Do you know those mystery stories? He's a healer. This chapter was wonderful. Frodo becomes one of the birds and Radagast is famous for his friendship and understanding of them.

Meldewen Ilce · 22 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

Oh, Jo, this story is a PURE jewel - and I have cried more than once! Never did I think I could care about orcs but here you have succeeded in making care about 3 and I was even in tears to learn of Yarga's fate! Oh what a jewel of a story - I just can't say that enough!

Tempest 415 · 18 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

this is a most extraordinary story, especially with it's start in 'Another Way of Leaving'. I think it a much better and more fitting ending for LotR than wistfully sailing into the sunset, no matter how traditional that may have been. I think you have done here the very thing that Tolkien wanted; given a new myth suited to our present age. This is just the kind of tale I wish I had been brought up with, and hope tales like this form the ideals for many in the future. Then we really would create a new age. Thank you

Pyro She-devil · 15 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

As good as they all are, this definitely was my favourite of the lot. The orcs especially, that was just a pleasant and interesting change from all the fanfictions I've ever read. Keep writing, because I think your hands, your wondrous brain or both would spontaneously combust if they were kept restrained! Cheers, again.

powerwriter · 15 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

I'm so sad that it's over! It's hard to imagine Frodo dying since he seems to have so much energy, especially in your stories. You've taken us on this wonderfully written journey. It does feel like sixty years has passed since Frodo started off with Radagast! I'm still wondering what happened to Cuina :P Thank you, Jo, for sharing such a great story! I can't wait to see where Canohando ends up!

Muinthel · 15 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

Muinthel · 15 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

...well... I just found this story yesterday! The title really got me catched and I stayed up till 3 in the morning reading. And when my family left this morning I run to the computer and read and read and read. That is quite a story and I really like your stile. The opportunity you give to your reader to search between the lines what the caracters intent with their acting got me cought. I have to admit that in the end I still hoped that Sam and Frodo would go to Valinor like Tolkien had them.....but I liked your ending very much and it was right for the whole progress of your story. Well you caught yourself another fan of your writing....I will see whatelse you have posted here....oh and I would love to find out more about what happened to the orcs!!!

pebbles66 · 14 March 2004 · Chapter 35: Even the Dregs Are Sweet

Oh, what a beautiful ending to a beautiful story. I have enjoyed reading this story so much over the last weeks. And I absolutely loved the ending. You did a wonderful job, and I look forward to reading all of your fanfics that I can find.
