Dare I say that Cirdan and Erienion's current relationship is 'cute'?
I don't believe I've enjoyed a story this much in a long time. Most certainly it is going on my favorites list. Especially since it stars my #1 shipwright.
*puppy eyes* Update soon? Please????

Ha! Grumpy old shipwright turnip. *ducks punch from Cirdan*
Didn't anyone tell Cirdan not to play with his food? Hmmph he's going to set a bad example sculpting carrots. He really *really* needs to liven up.
I do wonder how he would react is he was forced to run a daycare? Bad thoughts...
Author's reply
But amusing ones... *grin* I think he'd turn them all into little sailors... or drown them by mistake - that's actually more likely!
Cirdan is seldom a good example. :p

· Chapter 8: Swimming
*snorts* Very long, indeed, since he's been an elfling... *Cirdan hits Kitt on head* Owe, err, yes.
Your characterization of Cirdan is very well put together since he has such a little part in LotR and is only mentioned a few times in the Silm. I chuckle at how he doesn't understand children in the least. Not to mention his love for peace and quiet.

· Chapter 7: Cirdan
Now Beardo has me scared. I was trembling a bit there for Erienion. Then again, Beardo always scares me. He really hasn't had much experience with children, has he?
This is written really well, for I can simply feel all of Erienion's emotions.

Heh, I stopped reading to tell you that I'm probably about as nervous to meet Cirdan as Erienion is. Right, back to reading.

· Chapter 4: Remembering
This is so interesting in a child's point of view. It's so odd to think those older Elves as Gil Galad were children.
I'm getting anxious to see your Cirdan so I'm going to continue to the next chapter.

I like the picture you are creating of Beardo...er, I mean, Cirdan.
I wish I had found this story sooner and I hope to find the time to read the rest today.

I know I have reviewed this story on another site but I hope that by posting it here you are about to make my life much happier by giving us a new chapter to enjoy very soon
I do so much love this tale
Author's reply
I am, yes! It's about half done right now. *grins* It'll be up on ff.net first though.

Oh! I think I like this Cirdan! I haven't read many stories with him, and the personality that you've given him is excellent! I love the way you showed both Ereinion and Cirdan's thoughts through their little exchange so that the readers could understand their rationale.
I also liked the contrasts of manners between the two---Ereinion trying awfully hard to do the right and proper things, while Cirdan walks around in damp socks and speaks with his mouth full. Splendid! And the bit about him prefering to use the back door...definitely someone who likes to choose whether he'll be around people or not. Loved it.
Thatharien seems to be a real sweetie---hope to see a little of her every now and then.
Wonderful, wonderful chapter---I liked the previous ones as well, but this one stood out to me for some reason---maybe I just liked meeting Cirdan!

I'm still loving the way you've written this. I think Ereinion's thoughts are my favorite part...his musings on missing his parents, about wanting to play, about being so unsure of things. That would be so difficult...to be a young kid and basically stuck in a brand new place with no one certain person to keep you steady. When I was about seven my two sisters and I were shifted around for a few months---but at least we knew everyone we stayed with, at least a little.
Again, I'm truly enjoying this. I'll just have to read right through before going to bed.

· Chapter 5: The Havens
Sounds like Ereinion didn't have a very fun arrival...to be rudely inspected, then sick, cared for by a strange person, and then finding out that his comfort object is lost does not make for a happy child. I would cry too.
The Havens would be a big change...a little overwhelming all at once, I think.
Great job with this, Dragon...very believable, very well written. I like it!

· Chapter 4: Remembering
I think the homesickness would pour in once the focus on basic survival lifted a little. At least Ereinion was able to enjoy the sand and pines and flowers eventually.
The memory bits were nice, if not a little bittersweet. But most memories are like that...or get to be that way eventually...

· Chapter 3: Ereinion's Soldier
Not a very fun chapter...but definitely good. The goodbye was so sad...knowing what will happen eventually. And poor Ereinion, not even getting a proper good-bye hug because he's already layered in leather in mithril.
I did get to see the sock-sliding though! Even if Ereinion's reasons for doing it are sadly regretful.
The traveling would be a trial. Anion is smart to keep Ereinion all wrapped up in that cloak...sometimes once you've seen something, you suddenly wish you hadn't.
The part with the soldier made my stomach do a flip-flop...
And seeing the sea...not too much further to go. Definitely a welcome sight.

· Chapter 2: Arassë
Poor family...it's sad, but I like it that you've included the times between Ereinion and his parents before he leaves. And they're such a loving family too...that makes it harder, in a way, to send a little one away.
Ereinion's packing reminded me very much kid-rational in packing: why take things you'd really rather not even use? Several times on family trips we had to stop at a department store to pick up something that got overlooked amid the piles of bathing suits and card games that we always brought along--like sneakers!
The musing that anything that will do you good can't be any good at all was cute too--even poor Ereinion was worried at the time. Reminds me of vegetables.
Still a good mix of sadness and fun...though there isn't much fun when things go crumbly, is there?

· Chapter 1: News from Afar
Oh, Dragon...now I'm sorry that I didn't read this earlier. I think I've only read your mostly light-hearted stories so far, so this has been a little different. But I love it already. Little Ereinion is brave, as any young High Prince of the Noldor should be---but he's very much a child at the same time. I found the sneaking away amusing (though a bit dangerous at this time, maybe)...and now am wondering if Cirdan is going to have to deal with this sooner or later.
Loved the mix of sadness and general family life and kid-ness. So true to real life. : )

I only have time to read the first chapter, but I thought that I'd review. It is a very sweet, yet sad story. :( Sad because any who have read the Simarillion KNOW what's going to happen. It is fluffy, but I like fluff. I'll review again when I get a chance to read the rest of the cahpters. Cheers!
