· Chapter 54: Celebration
What a beautiful sight this would be if you could get close enough to see it. Elves just being elves. I really like the idea that Thranduil's power protects them. ~TF
Author's reply
It's based on the scenes in The Hobbit - though when I re-read that part, I realised that the wood-elves weren't actually dancing. But they could have been, and I'd have loved to be there!
The spells that put out all the lights, and dropped intruders in their tracks, has to be a result of Thranduil's power.

· Chapter 40: Searching
My favorite part is Thranduil scooping up his little elfling with a kiss. What a warm, secure way for a lost elfling to be awakened, in his Ada's powerful embrace. Lovely. ~TF
Author's reply
I'm a sucker for a loving father/son relationship between Thranduil and Legolas. I particularly like to show the contrast between the powerful Elvenking and the warm, loving father.

What a beautiful image this makes in my mind. I love it! Wouldn't you love to be there?!
Author's reply
I tried hard with the imagery here - to make it a little primal and wild.
Yes, I would *love* to be there - with Legolas, Thranduil, and all those Wood-elves ...

...Fortunately Little Legolas was well trained and knew to call 911 when Ada keeled over clutching his chest...
But seriously, that was so sweet! I loved the, "You found me!" bit. I can just see him undoer those leaves just itching to ambush Thranduil! ~TF
Author's reply
LOL! I don't know if elves have heart attacks, but Thranduil very nearly did here!
I don't see Legolas deliberately ambushing his father here. When Thranduil happened to walk past, then of course he had found his elfling.

· Chapter 54: Celebration
This is my kind of Wood Elfy celebration! Celumil's been presented and taken back to her bed and they've got down to the serious action!
Lovely.
Author's reply
Yes, it would be exactly how they'd celebrate a birth.
It's supposed to be a few seconds before the dwarves gatecrash the party in The Hobbit - but I think I like your idea better.

Great wood-elfy scene, Jay. The dwarves should beware!
Author's reply
Yes, they stumble on the scene about two seconds after this!
Actually, after I checked that section of The Hobbit, I realised that the elves were feasting and singing, but not dancing. But by that time I'd already got this image in my mind, so wrote it anyway.

Fascinating imagery as they dance and spin in the firelight.
Author's reply
I went for a very Silvan, wood-elfy feel in this. They seem more primal to me - 'more dangerous and less wise', as Tolkien put it.

That's quite sweet. Estel's definitely not a poet :)
Author's reply
Poor Estel. The poem isn't very original, is it? Elladan was very tactful.

· Chapter 53: First Love
Poor Estel. Imagine having to exhibit not only first love, but first poetry to a 3k year old elf.
On a technical point - drabbles are 100 words, aren't they? Do the crossings-out count as words, or can they sneak in as extras?
Author's reply
Elladan was very tactful, wasn't he? Perhaps he remembers what it was like - after all, elves have perfect recall!
The crossings-out do indeed count in the total. All my drabbles are exactly 100 words according to Word, but they all vary depending on where I post them (SoA says this one is 99 words long). I love the strike-through font - this drabble would have been impossible without it!

Sounds as if young Estel does indeed have a way to go. Nice to see the earliest experiments!
Author's reply
I hope the recipient of his poetry attempts appreciates the trouble he took! (I don't know who she is, but gave her golden hair to establish that it wasn't Arwen.)

Awww! Isn't this cute! Estel stumbling over poetry, being brave enough to show it to Elladan--and Elladan responding to it so kindly. How encouraging that would be. I love the image of Estel (or any guy) trying to write a poem about his love. :-)
Author's reply
I'm not sure that he was brave to show Elladan - he knew he had no choice! But he trusted Elladan not to laugh. Glad you like this!

Uncommonly sympathetic of Elladan to say that! It is so nice he for once doesn't tease poor Estel!
Author's reply
It would be too mean for Elladan to tease him - the twins are very fond of their little brother really. I think Elladan can still remember being in Estel's shoes - long, long, ago!

What an understanding brother, to offer a sympathetic touch rather than teasing.
Very nicely done!
(Wonder if they could make a poet out of me...)

Author's reply
I think that Elladan (a very long time ago) was perhaps once in a similar situation, so he knows how it feels.
Thanks for reviewing!

· Chapter 53: First Love
Estel writes poetry like I do! Only no one has the power to make a poet out of me, unfortunately.
Author's reply
Poor Estel. I was trying to think of something beautiful to write, then realised that for this, mundane would be better!
Don't worry, Daw, you're a far better writer than Estel is!

Aww. Such a sweet game of hide and seek. I love the way Legolas explodes out of the pile of leaves - and gives his Adar a heart attack. He's a good little hider - better, I think, than Thranduil expected.
Delightful.
Author's reply
Yes - Thranduil was expecting a more obvious hiding place. If he'd looked a bit more closely, he might have seen the pile of leaves quivering with laughter - but he didn't.

I love the idea of Thranduil playing 'hide and seek' with his little elfling. And it is the *perfect* place for a wood-elf prince to hide - in the leaves! A sweet drabble!
Author's reply
I like to write about Thranduil playing with Legolas, even though he's a busy King. He's a father too. And where else would a wood-elf hide? The question is, where will Thranduil hide?

A wonderful place for Legolas to have hidden himself. Lovely pictures now in my mind.

I love it! Love the image of Thranduil and Legolas playing. And I love the image of Legolas jumping out of the leaves. Very sweet!

I like to show Thranduil playing with his son - and being startled by him at times!
That picture of Legolas jumping out of the leaves was one of the first parts of this drabble to come to me.

I just read this over at RMH about three seconds ago!
This is lovely. I'm smiling in delight at the thought of Thranduil playing with his elfling and I just adore the image of Legolas jumping out in excitement from the pile of leaves (and the fact that Ada nearly didn't find him!). Now where's Thranduil going to hide?? :-)
Author's reply
I'm sure that Thranduil could take at least a little time from doing 'king things' to do father things instead.
You're right in spotting that Ada didn't find him - but it doesn't matter to either of them.
I now have this wonderful mental image of Thranduil hiding in a corner of the stables, under the bemused looks of the grooms.

Poor Earendil. Tuor forgot to add the rider, 'At a price, my son.'
Earendil paid a lot to pilot Vingilot through the night sky - and I'm still not sure whether it was a reward or a way of dealing with the inconvenience of two half-elves who didn't really fit into the Blessed Realm.
It's good to see happy little Earendil with his father before Gondolin fell.
Author's reply
I think this is a case of 'be careful what you wish for - you may get it.' Earendil paid a high price. I wonder if he thought it was worth it?
This can only be a couple of years before the fall of Gondolin - they haven't long to be happy :(
