grumpy · 26 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

sniff, sniff, is that a damp dog, or just Aragorn and his coat. Elves!!

Author's reply

*Grin* The twins do like to tease their little brother!

demeter d · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

Ah, yes, a very obvious connection! A funny, brotherly moment.

Author's reply

Two separate prompts rarely fit together quite so well! I like to write these light, fun moments between the three.

Dot · 24 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

I can see how you made the connection between the two challenges :-D This was great. I can just imagine how, uh, fragrant Aragorn is. *gags* And I love how he shakes the water off himself just like a dog! Of course, I'm sure the twins couldn't resist the opportunity to tease him.

Author's reply

There's an obvious link, isn't there? :>) Someone else suggested that he should have shaken the rain off all over the twins - I wish I'd thought of that! Of course, they hadn't started to tease him then.

peredhil lover · 24 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

Hey Jay, I'm sure you know this and just made a mistake, but in your response to my review you said the twins are 3/4 human. They are 1/4 human (actually, I believe, 23 percent human to be exact). Their mom was a full elf and dear old pop was, give or take a little, 1/2 human and 1/2 elf. I think I've studied up just a little bit too much on the twins! ;)

Author's reply

Whoops!! *Blush* I know that. I know that! I was thinking about them being part human because they're 3/4 elf, but it came out wrong. And then there's the Maiar blood to complicate things as well. Jay (hanging head in shame ...)

elliska · 24 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

*Snort* Only a ranger good appreciate a wolf-skin coat! And naturally E2 are going to have something to say about that! :-)

Author's reply

I expect that when he's out rangering in the Wild in the wet and cold and wind, he doesn't care *what* it smells like! But E2 can't resist annoying him, of course :>)

Bodkin · 24 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

I should think that wet warg wasn't much worse than Aragorn's usual post-patrol fragrance. I'm surprised Elrond didn't set up an outdoor shower system and fumigation block on the banks of the Bruinen - rangers for the cleansing of - before letting them approach Imladris more closely. Although, come to think of it, wet dog is a vile pong - so wet warg might outstink general unwashed ranger. And I wonder if Elladan and Elrohir have desensitised their noses a bit by spending time among men ... and in the Pony. Arwen would in all likelihood run all the way back to Grandmama at the smell of that cloak ...

Author's reply

I know the smell of damp dog only too well - and I imagine wet warg would be ten times worse. The twins probably are used to smells like that, but they just enjoy winding Aragorn up!

Agape4Gondor · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 4: Thranduil's Heir (Version Two)

I liked both of these Jay - I don't think one is more 'elvish' than the other - they both have a beauty to them... I liked the starkness of the first AND I liked the descriptive of the second....

Author's reply

Thanks - I like them both, but still think I prefer the first version.

Agape4Gondor · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 2: Long Live the King

I have always been pained by this 'choice' that the Valar have given - you have expressed it beautifully.

Author's reply

I don't think that the 'gift' of the Valar was a gift at all - more of a dreadful burden :(

Peredhil lover · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

Very cute. I enjoy reading about such little moments between the brothers. It must have been hard for poor Aragorn to be a smelly human around those sensitve elven noses. I wonder what Arwen thought of it. peredhil lover

Author's reply

I'm not sure the twins are quite that sensitive - after all, they are 3/4 human. They just can't resist teasing their little brother! Author Reply: *Cough* That would be 1/4 human, 3/4 elf, of course ... Thanks for pointing out that slight brainstorm!

Peredhil lover · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

I just now read this, and I must say it brought a smile to my face. Poor Aragorn! No smoking at the Bree does seem rather AU, but not a terribly bad idea to me. We've had such a ban for a number of years now, and it's worked out just fine. Aragorn must have had very good genes indeed to be a smoker and still make it to the ripe old age of 210! Thanks for the laugh, peredhil lover

MithLuin · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 38: Important Business

Interesting POV - the Council of Elrond as seen by a cat ;). I like how the cat considers Elrond to be her elf!

Author's reply

Whoops - I'm a bit late on replying to some reviews! Cats are independent creatures, and I can just see them regarding the elves as their servants!

Larner · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

Heh! Yes, an uncomfortable smell, to be certain. And a good addition to the line of stories generated.

Author's reply

I imagine wet warg is ten times worse than damp dog. And that's bad enough!

ellie · 23 March 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

How funny! How brotherly, too, to tell some they stink in such a way.

Author's reply

I think anyone else would have been much more polite about it. Trust the twins to be so rude!

Kitty · 17 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

A smoking ban. At the Pony! Whatever was the world coming to? *lol* Poor Strider! It is odd, though - I'm non-smoker and still hope that our politicians will get around to completely forbid smoking in inns and the like (they're still arguing about exceptions *rolls eyes*), but I *can't* imagine Strider *not* smoking at the Pony. He'll not be our Strider any more.

Author's reply

You're right - perhaps I should have labelled this 'AU'!!

Bodkin · 17 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

Well - at least he's a law-abiding Ranger and went along with the decree! And I daresay he's used to it - I can't imagine Imladris being a very pipeweed-friendly sort of place. (I can also picture the reaction of Mrs Butterbur - now forbidden to smock in the public places of Bree. Where will the traditional garments be stitched now?)

Author's reply

As I see it, when Strider's in Imladris, he thinks like an elf, and doesn't smoke. When he's out and about being a Ranger, he thinks like a human - but a future King can't break the law, can he? *Grin* I debated whether the sign should say 'No Smokking', or 'No Smocking'. Perhaps the second would have been more fun!!

Larner · 16 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

How perfect! Such ordinances are all too prevelant across the U.S., so it's not something terrifically unusual any more. But for Aragorn not to be able to smoke at the Prancing Pony.... Poor lad!

Author's reply

The Pony just won't be the same, will it? I suppose I should label this AU! It's a new law for England, but I won't be sorry to see it.

elliska · 15 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

Hehehe! We have on of those in Florida too--the whole state. No smoking in public places. The tourists react much more poorly than Strider, which only goes to show his good character. :-)

Author's reply

I think Strider's used to smoking bans - I doubt he'd smoke much in Imladris. And he's been well brought up, and is a future King, so he wouldn't *think* of breaking the law!!

Dot · 15 March 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

ROTFL! Poor Aragorn. But wait until someone tries to tell Gandalf... (We've had the smoking ban here for a while and as a non-smoker I think it's a wonderful invention :-D)

Author's reply

I think it's great too. But how sad is it, that my first thought was 'what would Strider's reaction be?' I sat there grinning like a loon while I plotted this in my head.

elliska · 10 March 2007 · Chapter 79: Labour Of Love

Yes, this is a very believable moment for Arwen to be antagonistic! :-) What a nightmare to have brothers and husband! This was great.

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked this. I tolerated my husband being there, but wouldn't have wanted anyone else. Elladan and Elrohir may have been skilled healers, but they're her brothers!

elliska · 10 March 2007 · Chapter 78: Parental Ambitions

This is a little sad, really. To see them so happy there and know it will be so short-lived. Well done, capturing this moment.

elliska · 10 March 2007 · Chapter 77: All The Wrong Notes

Hehehe! Yes, I can identify with that after many years of clarinet lessons. Poor Estel!

demeter d · 6 March 2007 · Chapter 79: Labour Of Love

Why would their mother not ask them to help her should such a time ever come? I can think of none who loved her more, at any rate. It is a brave husband, indeed, who is brave enough to share the delivery! A nice moment.

Author's reply

Well, although all three are healers, I wouldn't have wanted *my* brother there to share the moment! Who better than E2 though, to understand elven childbirth?

Ellie · 4 March 2007 · Chapter 79: Labour Of Love

Love fussy Arwen! And the men endured it so very well. What a beautiful ending!

Author's reply

*Grin* I like the ending too - but that's just because I like Elrohir!

Larner · 4 March 2007 · Chapter 79: Labour Of Love

When it was my daughter's turn her response was quite the opposite of this, although she almost twisted my hand off my arm. Getting my children somewhat pregrowed, as it were, I didn't have to go through this; but I'm told it's not uncommon to curse those taking part in the delivery of the child, particularly the one who helped to see to it the child was conceived. Am almost glad I didn't get that far myself.

Author's reply

You adopted? Very wise :) Poor Arwen - and Aragorn. The mood she's in, he'll never father a child again!

Bodkin · 4 March 2007 · Chapter 79: Labour Of Love

Three males around as she's giving birth! I'm surprised she confined herself to snarling at them. Physical violence would have relieved her stress much more effectively! Still - the result is worth the trial!

Author's reply

Even though all three are healers, they've no *personal* experience of this. I'd have snarled at them too!
