I hereby adopt, Meriadoc Brandybuck as my brother. I need a brother, and I want Meriadoc, who is also called Merry. He may stay a Brandybuck, as our names are not what makes us brothers. - PT
I get emotional every time I read this...it's so touching "as our names are not what makes us brothers". Lovely scene between Merry and Pippin, and I shall return often to re-read this classic! :-)

Oh,what a fantastic story! I know I keep saying that, but I do love this tale of yours! From Merry caring for Pippin through to his official "dopting" note to his auntie, down to Pippin waking up with his face snuggled up to his mother's palm. So sweet! Love it! :-)

I'm glad that they made it up so nicely! Merry being upset he wasn't in the room when Pippin woke up was a good touch. I like that Pippin adopted Merry in return. It was all very nice! Thank you!

Love the finish - such a sweet pair. The whole note business is lovely from all three of them. They are more brothers than cousins - good explanation.

(contented sigh) That was wonderful! Perfect ending and characterization, and marvelous dialogue. That explains ever so much about those two...and I say these things as someone who has an "adopted" sibling in my family. :) Well done!

Oh, Pearl, you had me hooked from word one of this lovely story, and you did not disappoint in its completion. Thank you so much for this sweet portrait of why my two fave hobbits ARE my two fave hobbits. Much of the reason is because of talented writers such as yourself who thoroughly understand who they are and what makes them tick. Splendid job, absolutely supurb!
Best,
Pips, genuflecting all over the place

Lovely story; I especially liked the effect of Pippin's childhood dream blending into his later fever-dreams. Although I find it difficult to ever imagine those two having such a serious fight, I can easily see that if they did they would worry themselves sick until they made it right. Good job!

I love Merry's note and the fact that Eglantine kept it and added to it. Such a shame that Merry wasn't there when Pippin woke up, but I am very glad that he did wake up for a minute or two at least. Looking forward to more. I read this one a very long time ago, but I am enjoying it again.

Poor Pippin! He got himself all worked up, at least he has made some improvement! Merry adopting Pippin as his brother was beautiful! Eglantine signing his adoption as well was so sweet! Looking forward to more!

Awww, was smiling at Merry's tender care of his cousin and the reminescence of Pippin's birth and the reading of the "offishul" document... and then you leave me on the edge of my chair once more.
Sure hope the reconciliation comes soon!

I remember enjoying this story when you first posted it, and it is just as fine a read today.
I do like your tender-hearted Paladin. And Merry's recounting of the argument, taking the blame, sounds so much like him.
Glad to have a chance to revisit this lovely story.

Hi There,
You Know....I think this has to be one of, if not the, very first stories I ever read when I first started to read fan fiction...It's what encouraged me to carry on reading it, until now I am a very avid reader....Something that I totally enjoy, and love... It was excellent then, and it is still excellent now...I think it shows and proves beyond a doubt, that no matter how hard we may argue and fight with our loved ones sometimes, we never, ever, stop loving them.....If ever that happens to me, I often come back to read your story, knowing that afterwards, everything is alright with the world after all!!...Thank you..

This chapter is so full of suspense! From Pearl reading the letter and papers to whether or not the poultices would work. Merry discovering Pippin's illness...
As I was enjoying this chapter, I just thought about how in your more recent stories you've inserted a bit of "faerie-like" stuff with Esme. Its a fantastic chapter/story without the suggestion, but it would've been cool to see those references here! Take care.

Such a beautiful chapter, Pearl. Pippin and his scarf--can't have him parting with that. You describe very well the Tooks quietly waiting for word of Pippin. Leave it to good old Pearl to get to the bottom of things! :-)

Merry rding all night to get to Pippin only to not feel well in his room! I like the way Pearl wants to know everything and feels they will both come out of it alright. I'm glad Pippin's fever broke, again, but I hope those poultices work! Looking forward to more, thank you!

Poor Merry! No wonder he was so upset about Coming of Age! He is feeling a lot of pressure it seems. I'm glad he was able to talk to Frodo and I'm glad that Sam was eavesdropping (a useful talent it seems). I guess Pearl will be able to fit everything together, and I hope she is able to get Merry to the Great Smials! Looking forward to more!
