What innocent fun! Yep, Pippin does keep things interesting. :) And don't they love him for it - and we too. Love them all. Congrats to all the winners!
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
My nephew is just like Pip. Always 'helping', lol! Pippin does keep things interesting and Merry isn't really complaining, though he might have if he'd been made to go through the whole day looking like a little old gaffer. :P
Thanks for reading!

This was lots of fun. I enjoyed it very much. Your Tulip is so much nicer than mine was. I love what you did with all of it. Thank you for the laughs!
Author's reply
Your Tulip was almost wicked, not in the Lobelia capacity, but pretty darn close. Pippin needed a caring, sympathetic judge though. :D Thanks for letting me use her, with a few minor personality changes. *hugs*

To see Merry so sedate through all this was wonderful; and our Pippin is, after all, our Pippin--through and through! Heh! Wonderful!
Author's reply
Merry really pulled through. It would have been easy for him to get competitive and impatient, but he held it in check for his Pip. And Pippin, bless him, so eager to learn and help in any way he can.

Love it! Omigosh, it's a good thing I just had supper, or I'd be prowling around the kitchen eating everything in sight. What a delightful story. The cousin-y love just overflows. :)

*grins* I love how kids misunderstand things, don't you? I should probably consider a "Do not read on an empty stomach" warning in the future. :) Thanks for reading, Shirebound!

· Chapter 14: The Quest for the Hairless Cat
This was very sweet, and very imaginative. I loved Pip's constant obsession with seeing food in the form of clouds and the way Merry humoured him all the way through. The ending was especially well done and I enjoyed Pip finding proof of the hairless cat at last!
Author's reply
I imagine that Pippin can see food in almost anything! Merry is a good older cousin, and even if he didn’t particularly want to go on this camping trip, he soon warmed up to it and realized that this would be a great adventure to share with Pippin. Now they can all go home and tell them that hairless cats, and oliphaunts, do really exist – not that anyone will believe them. ;)

· Chapter 14: The Quest for the Hairless Cat
When I was a teenager I belonged to 4H, and was in, among other things, the veterinary science project. We were required to do community service proects from time to time, and two years running we served as ring stewards for cat shows. Having seen hairless cats in real life, the description is SO realistic! I felt rather sorry for the poor things.
And I can SO see just this situation coming up! And to find one in Minas Tirith! Heh!
Author's reply
They are quite ugly, aren’t they? I’ve been spared seeing one in RL, but I can imagine if they look that bad on TV, they can’t be much better looking in RL. It is a bit of a stretch to find one in Minas Tirith. Whoever that soldier was who stole it away from the East must have a bit of hobbit stealth in him!

· Chapter 14: The Quest for the Hairless Cat
Now my holiday is complete. I am so glad you found the time to write! This is great fun all the way, from Saradoc getting involved in the camping to Frodo setting them up so that Merry had no choice but to go along. I love this: (Unfortunately, I fail to consider Bilbo’s presence and the influence he tends to have over my father. ) That is a very dangerous thing to forget, Merry! LOL Loved it from start to finish!
Author's reply
Thanks, GW! Frodo will always be one step ahead of Merry, and Saradoc shows his own mischievous side, a little rusty for not being used in so long but still there, lol! It’s plain to see where Merry got it from. ;)

· Chapter 14: The Quest for the Hairless Cat
This was terrific--what a great story! And Merry's narrative is quite funny, and quite reasonable, too, in all its myriad details. A true slice of Shire life! I wondered as we went along if there WERE hairless cats in Middle-earth, and so I was very pleased to get to see one in the end! They aren't hugely attractive; I should think it would have reminded Frodo of Gollum! :)
Author's reply
I don’t write in Merry’s POV often, but this story simply demanded it. He does have a knack at seeing the humor in every situation. I wasn’t sure myself if there were hairless cats in ME, until that final scene started nipping at me and wouldn’t leave me alone until I put it in! And Gollum isn’t *that* ugly! ;)

LOLOL! What a wild idea for a story, GF! That was so cute and funny--and I wonder if Bilbo and/or Frodo had anything to do with Pippin seeing the glowing eyes--if so, neither of them would *ever* admit it.
I love Pippin's one-track mind. And poor Frodo, the subject of Aunt Esme's endless matchmaking schemes!
Author's reply
I doubt very much Bilbo or Frodo has anything to do with the lights. Most likely, it was just some wild animal, such as a fox, like the one in “Three’s Company”, stopping to wonder what a bunch of hobbits were doing sleeping in the open.
Esme figures she only has a few more years to get Frodo paired up with someone and that she just might see him more often if he becomes enamored with a lass from the Hall. Frodo knows better than to dissuade her at this point. He just grins and bears it as best he can.

· Chapter 14: The Quest for the Hairless Cat
“We need to go to town today to look for the hairless cats,” Pippin continues. “They won’t be at the river so we won’t be able to find them there. They’ll be in town, so we need to go with Frodo.” At least he has enough sense not to mention the sweets shop.
Pippin does tend to get obsessed, doesn't he? I was as eager as he to find out if there were hairless cats to be found! It's great that the cousins were still together when Pip finally saw one. An adorable story.
Author's reply
Pippin – he of the one-tracked mind. It doesn’t help that Merry so often indulges him. ;)
I hadn’t planned on that final scene in Gondor. It starting taking shape as I was writing and kept nipping at me until I put it in. I’m glad the cousins were still together also.

I don't know how I missed this adorable story! I saw the link you left on LJ for Anso and I came over to read and realized that I'd never read this one before. I loved Pippin's idea of a gift for Merry and Merry's idea for where the gift should be kept. This was darling! Glad I found it.
Author's reply
I figured that Pippin would think giving all of Merry's toys back would be a grand gift. :D And Merry's sharp enough - even while experiencing flu head - to realize that Pippin really still wants to play with them! It's a nice little compromise.
I'm glad you found this! *hugs*

· Chapter 13: The Evil Necromancer
The sort of error that Pippin's kind friends and relations will still be harping on about when he's Thain. Although by then he will at least be inured to it. Can you just imagine him when he is making his first tentative experiments in lasses - and Merry reminds him about evil neck romancers? He'll be somewhere between dying of embarrassment and wanting to commit violent acts on his cousin.
The only one who will probably avoid the subject will be Reginard. For obvious reasons.
Author's reply
They'll never let Pippin live this one down! Nor Reggie either, but at least he can hope to someday level the playing fields by catching his brother at something. Then he won't have to worry about owing him anything any more. :)
LOL, that is just the sort of thing Merry and Vinca would do! Poor Pippin will have to keep those experiments to himself for as long as he can, but with Vinca around, there won't be much hope of that.

· Chapter 13: The Evil Necromancer
Heeheeehee! Reginard the unwitting neck romancer! LOL! This is hysterical. Poor Pippin, all wound up over this. I love that Pervinca calls him "Pigeon" too. Is there a story behind that nickname? I can just imagine what Gandalf would think of it all. It would be fun to see Merry tell this as a campfire story while on the Quest, embarassing Pippin in front of everyone. Heee! Thanks for the funny ficlet :)
Author's reply
Reginard got the short straw here, that's for sure. A nice, quiet afternoon alone with his lass has been ruined.
About 'Pigeon': Pippin takes pride in being named for a falcon, and a pigeon is about as far removed from a falcon as you can get; indeed, peregrines hunt pigeons. 'Pigeon' also sort of rhymes with Pippin. And, most importantly, it annoys Pippin. :D Ah, big sisters, whatever would you do without them?
I'm sure this story, and many others, came out during those many long, boring days of walking during the Quest. You know Frodo will be hearing about this at least! As soon as Merry can pick himself up off the floor, he'll be penning a letter to Hobbiton. ;)
Thank you so much for reading!

*evil NECK-ROMANCER* **grooann** That is just too perfect!
I knew as soon as Pippin said that someone was sucking her soul out, that he'd caught a couple of tweens in a compromising situation, LOL! But the way it played out--too, too funny! And poor Reggie, he's going to be the butt of cousinly blackmail and embarrassing jokes for *years*!
*giggle* I just love Pippin in this. *He* knows what he's talking about even if no-one else does. I'd love to see him remembering this when he's grown.
How about a sequel at Reggie's wedding--a perfect time for the cousins to bring up this lovely bit of family history and embarrass the groom!
Author's reply
LOL I can just hear Ev's speech to the groom right now: "Why, I remember the time we found Reggie and Opal in the sitting room..." Somehow, I don't think Reggie will be naming his brother best man. ;) He will never live this down, though there is always the hope that it will occasionally be forgotten. Reggie will have to move quickly to level the playing fields again and find Ev doing something *he* shouldn't be doing.
Pippin must have been thoroughly confused listening to Bilbo tell the tale of the neck romancer, and he's even more confused now! He'll figure it out in a few more years and Merry will be keeping this memory alive so that he doesn't forget it! Reggie's not the only one who isn't going to live this down. ;)
Glad this gave you a laugh. Thanks for reading!

I think I knew what was going on from this point.
But I didn't expect the pun. Neck-romancer? Too too too clever.

*snort* Adorable! How does Pippin put up with these dense older cousins of his? Can't they understand anything important? Oh, this is wondrous.
*wanders off, grinning and chuckling*
Author's reply
Older cousins can be so useless sometimes, can't they? They just can't see the direness of the situation. Thankfully, Pippin was able to keep his head and get the job done. ;) Give him a few more years and he might be able to see the humor of the situation.
