Baggins Babe · 28 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

Baby Frodo is adorable! I've never wanted children but I might change my mind if I could have a baby hobbit! :-)) Glad Merimac found out what was needed, and then discovered that looking after a baby isn't so terrifying after all. A very sweet look at our favourite Ring-bearer and his family.

Author's reply

I wish I had a baby hobbit too! They are so sweet and cuddly - and just imagine how tiny they would be! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed - thank you so much!

Antane · 27 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

Another sweet story - you are just full of them! :) Loved Northern Lights also. I am going to have to look at more of yours when I have more time. Time? Time. What's that? Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thanks very much, Antane! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story and the Northern Lights one as well. I can't seem to get enough of writing wee hobbit cousins :D

Bodkin · 27 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

Ah! Once he'd got his own way, little Frodo was quite happy - and that was a considerable relief for his cousin! But still, I expect Merimac will be glad to see the return of the relief party.

Author's reply

Yes I'm sure he was! :) Thanks for reading, Bodkin!

Author's reply

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed! :)

Pearl Took · 26 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

Such a beautiful story, and how it resonates with anyone who has had to watch a wee one! Well Done, ST!

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl! I'm so glad it resonated with you. I was thinking of my own trials in babysitting, heehee! :)

Larner · 26 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

Yes, all too often that's about the only thing a baby wants--to be held.

Author's reply

I figured that Merimac would have a little trouble figuring that out, being that he is not yet a father and presumably has not had much experience in child care. But his heart is in the right place and he does eventually discover what to do! Thanks for reading :)

Andrea · 26 January 2007 · Chapter 81: Looking After Frodo

"I hope someday when I have children that they never cry." "Pffth," Frodo replied, resting his head on Merimac's shoulder. LOL!!! Clever baby! And a wonderful Merimac. Sometimes it can be very difficult to find out why a baby cries. It's natural for hobbits and men to expect the worst. But, as little Frodo showed us, he only wanted to be held. Nice little story. Thank you!

Author's reply

It is hard to figure out why a baby is crying and I think it's even more difficult when it is not your own baby...there is such a fear that something will go wrong once the parents leave the room! Thanks, Andrea! I'm so glad you enjoyed :)

Antane · 23 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Ah sweet love, so glad to see! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thanks so much! :D

Baggins Babe · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

I know how Pip feels - I always feel sorry for the dragon. And what a clever bit of foreshadowing, reminding us that fairy tales do not always end happily.

Author's reply

I'm so glad you could relate to Pippin. I do too. Thanks very much for reading!

Larner · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Trust Pippin to find someone to empathise with, and in this case a helpful if doomed dragon. I love it. And Happy Birthday.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner! I thought that Pippin would be compassionate to doomed dragons as well...he seems like the sympathetic type :)

Lindelea · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

p.s. happy birthday!

Author's reply

Thank you very much! :D

Lindelea · 22 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Aww. Such gentle foreshadowing. They all did live happily ever after, and yet were separated by circumstance, parted aforetimes. This was cute, and so true, with little ones: Then again, if Pippin's questions were not answered, there would be no sleep for anyone tonight.

Author's reply

I like a healthy dose of foreshadowing. It's good sometimes to balance out the fluff :) Thanks very much for reading! I'm glad you liked that line - it was a favorite of mine as well. I love that the cousins know each other so well :)

Dreamflower · 21 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Awww....it's *so* like Pippin to feel sorry even for the dragon. And I just love the way Frodo indulges him. They are so sweet together!

Author's reply

Yes, I do feel that Pippin is very sensitive and compassionate and would have felt sorry for the dragon. Frodo can't help but indulge Pippin, because he is also very sensitive to the needs of others. Thanks for reading!

Andrea · 21 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Awww! It's just like Pippin to feel sorry for that poor old dragon! And I'm quite sure that especially Frodo understood Pippin's feelings. That's what makes Tolkien's stories so fascinating: they are not fairy tales. There is not simply black and white, but instead all shades of grey. A good one can turn bad, and vice versa. That's life! And that's why I love Tolkien's stories. Thank you very much, and happy birthday to you :)

Author's reply

Thank you Andrea, for reading and for the birthday wishes! I agree with you, a wonderful aspect of Tolkien's stories is the complexity of the characters and the fact that there are many facets to each personality. I'm very glad you enjoyed :)

Pearl Took · 21 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

Very nice! I like the bit of foreshadowing with the idea that even happy endings are often not totally happy.

Author's reply

Thanks very much, Pearl! I like a healthy dose of foreshadowing :D

harrowcat · 21 January 2007 · Chapter 80: Of Endings, Happy and Sad

That is one of the wondrous things about Tolkien's work isn't it? There is a complete range of emotional depths and heights; the charming simplicity of Bilbo wanting to write 'and they all lived happily to the end of their days; Boromir's and Denethor's awful endings and the sadness/despair of Frodo leaving at the Havens, not to mention the even more epic themes portrayed in the Silmarilion etc. Our mythology and classic fairy tales are quite stern reading for discerning children who, like Pippin, are quite able to see beyond the glib ending. Wow, deep thoughts for a busy Sunday evening. And you have put it so much better without having to spell it out! I stand in awe! BTW - did I spot that birthday greetings were in order? If so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Author's reply

Heehee, how did you find me out? Are you on livejournal as well? Thanks for the birthday wishes! :) Thank you also for your thoughtful feedback. It IS a wonderful aspect of Tolkien's work that he wrote such complex characters and themes. And yes, some fairy tales are very frightening! I can see how one could upset a child as sensitive as Pippin. I'm very glad you enjoyed! :)

cathleen · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

Very sweet story! I can just see them all enjoying the swings at the different times in their lives. Cathleen

Author's reply

Thanks very much, Cathleen! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)

Antane · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

Ah, sweet, hobbity love - Merry offering his swing and Frodo saying he wanted the swing to remain so they could fun together when he returned and Pippin delighting in the ride and wanting to be on his Merry's lap. Long live such love and joy! Happy Yule! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thanks very much, Antane! I wanted to show the love between the cousins in those two scenes and the depth of their relationship. I'm very glad you enjoyed. Have a happy Yule! :)

Bodkin · 31 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

So sweet of Merry to offer Frodo one of the swings to play on in Hobbiton. And typical of Pippin to join his cousin on his swing! Rorimac did a good job in building that pair of swings.

Author's reply

I love writing about the cousins and their different personalities and the dynamic between them. Thank you for reading, Bodkin! :)

Hai Took · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

That was so cute! You wrote each set of characters wonderfully. I loved the Frodo and Merry one especially it was very sweet and sad at the same time. I could see Merry offering Frodo his swing and it made me cry. Well done!

Author's reply

Thanks very much! I enjoyed writing the Frodo and Merry one because I wanted the chance to show their close relationship and how difficult it was for both of them when Frodo left. I'm so glad you enjoyed! :)

Larner · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

Oh, how I have ever loved swings and children playing on them. So right! And Merry would have given Frodo one to take with him to Hobbiton? How delightful!

Author's reply

I miss the days of playing on swings! I'm very glad you enjoyed these. Thanks for reading! :)

harrowcat · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

What lovely pictures, even the sad one.

Author's reply

THank you for reading, harrowcat. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Pearl Took · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

Those swings have a wonderful history :-) Sweet vignettes. Well done, ST!

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl! :)

Andrea · 30 December 2006 · Chapter 79: A Pair of Swings

Awww! Such a sweet little story! Of course, Pippin was the first to break the "rule" of one swing for one hobbit lad ;-) And that's why I like him so much! Thank you!

Author's reply

Thanks so much, Andrea! I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Yes, I think Pippin is a real snuggler and wouldn't want to swing alone :D

Bodkin · 28 December 2006 · Chapter 78: A Fine Match

The dance of courtship! Nicely drawn. A fine match indeed.

Author's reply

Thank you, Bodkin! :)
