Returning Shadows

In the beginning of the chapter "Homeward Bound" in ROtK, Tolkien wrote that Frodo felt a "return of pain and unease" while travelling back to the Shire with Gandalf, Merry, Sam, and Pippin. What happened in these two days? **Gap-filler** Thanks to Nivina for beta-ing and Shirebound for the plot bunny to inspire me. This is my first h/c story, so all comments, suggestions are most welcome.
