"Shall I leave one candle alight for you?" He knew that Frodo disliked complete darkness, particularly in strange places. "No, it's alright Sam. The moon is quite bright, and you're here. I feel quite safe." He leaned up impulsively and kissed Sam's brow. "Thank you for everything. You've been such a help and support in all this, and never complained or reproached me for wanting to do right by Lotho." "You're the wisest and best hobbit in the Shire." Ah, hobbity love - the best kind! And so are you the best, Sam, soulbrother to the one you love. How very noble of Frodo to treat Lotho's remains with such dignity. But what would you expect otherwise? Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I'd always wondered what happened to Lotho, and once the bunny bit my ankle it refused to let go.

Oh wow, what a discovery! No wonder Sam was worried! I love how you portray Merry and Pip-their nonsense is splendidly done! :-) And the ending is so wonderful! Brought a big smile to my face! Namarie, and God bless, Galadriel

Well, I've always wondered what Wormtongue did with Lotho after the mmurder - he probably wouldn't have taken him far from Bag End. A nasty discovery for Sam - and Frodo. Merry and Pippin are such fun to write - they write themselves really! I had to introduce the 'bun scramble' - the term in our family for the funeral tea. Glad you liked the ending.

My dear! Of All your stories I think this one is probably my favourite! The charaacters are so warm and wonderfully realised! I love the scene where they are in the pub after the misbegotten "bun scramble!" So wonderfully written. The dialogue just flows! Also I love that Frodo can manage to be so forgiving of poor Lotho. It shows a true quality of depth that you have given Frodo! I love it! MM (PEF)

All these pub scenes are the result of our intensive research! 'Bun scramble' was a term used in my family to describe the funeral tea, and I couldn't resist putting it in the story! Thank you for all your encouragement, MM. If it weren't for you I would never have plucked up the courage to post.

Another wonderful story! Poor old Lotho, he was a Baggins after all, but somewhat misleaded. Well, he can rest now in peace, thanks to Frodo, who has found his own peace after a really tough time! Thank you for quoting "The road goes ever on and on ...", one of my favourite songs, but the last lines of this story really touched me: "The road had gone on and on. Sam had thought it would end at Mount Doom, but by the Grace of the Valar they had survived, and it was there to follow for many more years. He added his voice to that of his friends, and the miles vanished behind them as they journeyed towards home."

*applause!* That was the perfect accompaniment to "Reunion in Minas Tirith". I loved all the little reminiscing about Lobelia, Dora and the other aunts--so very hobbity! I really love this particular AU, and hope you set many more lovely stories in this Universe. Well done!

Author's reply

*bows* Yes, I have more stories in this AU - I like to think that Frodo decided to stay in Middle-earth and did not bother to alter the Red Book. :-))

What a marvelous prelude to your other story, and a fascinating gap-filler! He sounded very amused. "Well, well! It seems I can still surprise my nosey and conspiratorial cousins. You're both doing a fair impersonation of stranded trout!" I do love your hobbity dialogue, Baggins Babe. And your stories have such a "completeness" to them. Rest in Peace, dear Lotho.

Author's reply

The hobbity dialogue seems to write itself:-)) I am very in tune with the hobbits I think (small enough, nearly, too!). I have always wondered what Grima did with Lotho, and had to answer my own questions.
