Yes! A Celeborn story to begin my day. Doubt if I will have time to finish it at this session, but it does start well. I particularly liked "It was a hurt she would not think on, that he loved the lands of Middle Earth more than he loved her". Sad and close to the truth of our very favorite and very complex elf lord. Humble Scribe to his Majesty Thranduil

Two more enthralling chapters; what a delightful gift! I was particularly taken with your description of Celeborn facing Khamul and the events that followed. Very well done.

Oh, this chapter is breathtaking! First, your descriptions ("the shade of his lashes making half moons of darkness on his cheeks") render such brilliant images in my mind. Then, your characters. Haldir's regret for his brother's forced maturity -- so like a loving brother. His sense of responsibility for his warriors! Then, the vileness of the attack. Poisoning the water! "The river is full of death." No words can describe how evil that is -- but your words do! I am really worried about Orophin. Haldir put him in a position where he cannot refuse but to go fight. If he is injured or killed, Haldir will feel guilty the rest of his life (if, indeed, he survives this war). No good can possibly come of this. Fierce and evil as the Nazgul is, I would not want to be one to face Celeborn. Your battle scene is exquisitely fearful. (By the way, I think you want to say C's axe "sheared" through the steel plates of the wraith's mail, not "sheered".) But then the ring! What an unexpected plot twist! "it was of a size to neatly fit upon Oswy's finger" -- how SINISTER! And Oswy's reaction; it is as if we are watching Isildur all over again! Celeborn's last words in this chapter are bone-chilling, indeed. I can't wait to see what Oswy does now. Did I say this chapter is breathtaking? Well, it's also heartbreaking! Please update soon!

Oops. There is the same on both ff.net and here. *whaps head* That, Sphinx is what you get for trying to navigate Internet Explorer without contact lenses OR glasses. Blind as a bt, me. Sorry. ;)

Sphinx · 18 October 2003 · Chapter 15: The Challenge

Whoa! There's more here than there is on ff.net! *shakes head at Marnie* Is this a planned move?? But what a twist to the tale. I see Isildur out there instead of Oswy, only Isildur didnt have... Celeborn. *sigh* I will not say more. I will only drool, and I will give you the Look. *pokes Marnie* write more. The more I read of either of your stories, the more Finarfin gives his consent to that meeting with his son-in-law.

A whole new problem!? You've got that right. Wow, that ring dropping out of the cloak was unexpected, to say the least. It shouldn't have been, but it was. "It seemed right to him to take this token in memory of his father, of his slain people, and to bear it in the knowledge that vengeance was sure." Echoes of Isildur, there. "It is mine! It came to me!" And Gollum And oh, my stars, that last line! Haunting, chilling.

Nilmandra · 16 October 2003 · Chapter 15: The Challenge

Ok, that is not the potential harm I saw for Oswy!!!! But what a plot twist! I suppose the ring is still active as long as the One Ring exists. Oh, how mangificent Celeborn was, and his answer to Oswy is just wrenching. Now, why did you leave it here!!?? What did Oswy say? WAs he able to see reason? What is Celeborn to do with the ring? I love Celeborn's answer to the wraith - he is a mighty warrior and cool and sees things very clearly. *nudges Marnie to go write more*

Oh my LORD, Marnie.... WHAT a chapter!!!! "very minor Orc" indeed.... hah!! Take THAT, dol-guldur-breath!!! :-) Wow. Celeborn kicks serious butt... and Oswy don't do half bad either.... poor kid. I KNOW it was the evil of the Ulairi and its Ring that made him the way he was... disbelieving an Elf, snarling in anger... fortunately Celeborn knows that too, and the last line was positively chilling!!! What an absolutely brilliant chapter. VERY well done! And I feel Haldir's pain... I hate being left behind too. :-) Thanks for a fantastic read!!

Marnie, This is an excellent story, very detailed, and the characters really do seem realistic. I very much look forward to each chapter. Please update soon! Thank you!
