I want to know who the bones belonged to, but I have to agree with Halbarad. EEE! Quick! Get him out! Get him out! *bites nails*

Dear Merry, I love your characterization of him so much. And Frodo is wonderful with his Scamp and his adventurous spirit. You're building the tension really well, and I want to know what's going to happen next. Yuo've got me scared for Frodo.

Oh, hello! My very favorite universe is alive again! I am the biggest Quarantined fan you have. I wrote to you once (you may not remember, amidst all the reviews you get) that I first read it when I was ill, and ended up rereading it many times because of the wonderful angst and comfort, suffering and love, on every page. Even the pages with scary parts. So I'm delighted to visit Q-Aragorn and Q-Frodo again. Aragorn is again that wonderful, mature, masculine, sensitive, strong, awesome Man ---except how did he forget to bring his bandages in his healing pack? This is your same guy who carried "hobbit-sized splints" up Caradhas? You made him depend on Bilbo's handkerchief? A nod to "The Hobbit" ??? Hmmm. What did your mother say about that? But I shouldn't complain, not when I'm enjoying a story this much! You are much more of a Tolkien scholar than I am . . . I was interested in your knowledge of canon as reflected in this phrase: "There are trees which speak,” Aragorn said thoughtfully, “but not all. The Elves awoke them, but the trees in this clearing are young; perhaps only the eldest can speak so that we can understand.” I think that this is very, very true to canon, as far as I understand it. Not all trees spoke, and not all trees woke up. There was no cookie-cutter formula for trees. Tolkien's world was richer, deeper and more varied (and more perilous!) than that. I think that your use of canon as a framework and a springboard for your own imagination is very well done. All that scholarly stuff aside -- what a great plot! Fever, pain, and trouble with a capital T in the future for my beloved blue-eyed hero! My favorite kind of read! Pour it on, girl. No one does Aragorn and Frodo h/c like you. I'm looking forward to the next chapter! Thanks for writing!

Wow!! So Frodo now knows Aragorn isn't just any other Ranger, but the Captain of the Rangers. But, what happens now. Poor Aragorn...I foresee more bruises coming his way from trying to keep Frodo from hurting himself. ;o) This just such a wonderful AU to come and visit in. Can't wait for the next chapter!!

Ooo goody! - Angst! Entertaining, as always SB! You always write such readable stuff.

EllyBaggins · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

i love it when aragorn gets protective! and do i sense frodo angst?? i hope so (as long as it's accompanied by fluff) !

Anso the Hobbit · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Oh, no! Poor Frodo! I`m glad Aragorn is with them, healser as he is. He`s going to have his hands full with both a injured Ranger and now possibly Frodo. Also, I loved the little scene where Merry takes Bilbo`s hand. He`s still jsut a little lad and needs the grown up`s reassurance. Lovely! :)

Andrea · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Well, Scamp certainly is a very good guard, but even she did not scent the danger of the thorns! It must be an ancient evil, like Old Man Willow in FotR. Let's hope they will reach the forest gate in time. But what will happen, if they are too late? Frodo does not yet know the danger he's in... A well written chapter full of growing suspense! Can't wait for more!

SlightlyTookish · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

This is such a wonderful chapter! I love the interaction between the Rangers, and how Halbarad already is protective of Frodo. You do such a great job here with showing the creepiness of the Forest, and I love how Merry is suddenly glad to be staying behind with Frodo (though I wonder how long that will last ;)). But those bones, eek. I want to hear more about them :)

harrowcat · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

I have been waiting and waiting for this update and the withdrawal symptoms were getting pretty painful. so thanks for updating. I love the way that sef-assured merry wants an adventure, but when the reality is closer is quite happy to wait behind. It highlights just how must he is willing to risk later, for love of Frodo. What kind of bribe do you need for quick updates?

aprilkat · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Scamp certainly came through with flying colors! You've certainly set up an exciting scenario. At least Frodo has three Men with him to keep him from harm...

Iorhael · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

O_o That doesn't sound good. Why is Aragorn acting strangely?

Lily the Hobbit · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Cliffhanger! Now that's nasty! Oh my... I already doubt that Scamp will find a way back for I am sure she has some scratches of her own. *waits impatiently for next chapter*

Lily Baggins · 30 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Why do I have a feeling all is not going to go quite as expected? *drums fingers on desk* Hmmmm . . . Very nice chapter! I do like the way Frodo sort of cajoled himself into this trip . . . the Old Forest would give me nightmares, frankly! Can't wait to see what happens next, as I have a feeling Halbarad is in some deep, deep trouble!

Arwen Baggins · 30 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Well, FotR did say that Frodo had been in the Old Forest once before. Guess this answers my questions of "When and why?"! LOL, I love it.

Tigger · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

YAY!! You've returned to this universe!! I have loved each and every one of the stories from this AU you've created. I can't wait for the next installment!!

Lily the Hobbit · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Young Merry is a delight to write! :) Oh... and you have me hooked again! How very suspenseful! Can't wait to see them enter the forest... and I'm almost sure Merry will not stop at the gate, even if Bilbo does.

Mysterious Jedi · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

So is this an innocent bunny or a terrifying nazgul? Either way you might want to put some antiseptic on the bites, I hear they get infected pretty easily.

EllyBaggins · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

i love the world you are creating with these stories, and i'm really looking forward to seeing where this one is heading. after this do you plan to write anymore in this series? i don't think you should stop, lol!

Andrea · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

“I knew he had taken the key, Bilbo,” Frodo sighed. “Merry said he wanted to carry it with him ‘just for fun on our Adventure’.” *LOL* That's typical Merry! Maybe he really thought just in "case"? No-one knows, if there might be an opportunity to sneak into the Old Forest. And now, he will go there! But I doubt, he will remain near the entrance. Well, we'll see.

Anso the Hobbit · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Oooh! Exciting! I`m sensing quite an adventure here. Looking forward to more. :)

Lindelea · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

“No,” Aragorn and Bilbo said together. (great use of timing here) "What could be safer?" --famous last words Well done! From Merry taking the key (for a sense of adventure) to being determined to go along somehow, to Frodo *having* to go in order to secure Scamp's cooperation, to Bilbo's handkerchief, to the plight of the missing Ranger and his relatives' concern, this is coming along nicely.

SlightlyTookish · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Another wonderful chapter! I really love Merry here - thinking quickly, swiping the gate key and desperately wanting to be included. I love how Bilbo gave Frodo one of his handkerchiefs - good thing he remembered to pack one this time! :D

Breon Briarwood · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

*cue ominous music* :D

cuthalion · 29 April 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Ah, finally! Would you believe that it took me weeks to start this new tale of yours? (Weeks and two pitch dark chapters of BIGS - which makes it even more delightful to sneak into your world were puppies are cute, rangers are friendly and hobbits are generous and goodwilling.) This is very beautiful, Janet... and I especially like the perfect characterization of Merry - clever, fast, mischievous and charming. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter! Cúthalion
