Larner · 3 August 2015 · Chapter 49: Eleni sílar antalyannar!

Lovely drabble, Lindelea. Now I wonder who Elrond's son's love is? Heh!

Author's reply

LOL, my imaginings have not progressed to that point. I do love Fiondil's version of Roy and Dan's future lives, though. Thanks! Author Reply: Just to let you know, the drabble was revised so that the Elf who engages in conversation with Ferdi is now Celeborn and not a son of Elrond. (Ferdi would have come to know both sons of Elrond at the Lake, before setting out on this journey to Gondor, which makes his attitude in the drabble not quite right. Celeborn, as a very recent acquaintance, fits better. And of course, we know who his distant love is!

Dreamflower · 3 August 2015 · Chapter 49: Eleni sílar antalyannar!

Delightful, dear! You've no idea how heartening it is to hear that the Gondor story is making progress!

Author's reply

Thank you! Hope to see more of your stories posted, as well. (Thinking good thoughts.)

shirebound · 3 August 2015 · Chapter 49: Eleni sílar antalyannar!

That's a lovely communication between these two.

Author's reply

My old dad used to tell me to look for common ground in conversation... Thanks!

Tigger · 31 July 2015 · Chapter 47: I'd like to introduce you to an old friend of mine... (double drabble)

Oh this brings back memories. Many a time while in the hospital during my childhood several old friends kept me company. From Curious George to Madeleine to Ramona to Anne Shirley to the Myths of Scotland and biographies of Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots as I grew older I have been grateful I was such a bookworm.. Now I get to introduce some of those old friends to my Great Nephew Parker. I need to get over to Sudbury and a Chapters store to get him his Third Birthday present. He's in love w/his Dinosaurs right now, so I'm thinking a book on them along w/either Curious George or Thomas The Tank Engine will work. It goes w/out saying when he's old enough his Auntie Tigger will introduce him to first her friends Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf and later on to Frodo Baggins and all of Frodo's Friends. :o) Thank you so much for such a lovely snuggy feeling story. :o)

Author's reply

Thank you for your lovely review! I remember introducing some of my old friends to our own children; it was right about when finding used books on the internet was really picking up. I was thrilled to be able to replace a number of the books that went missing when I went off to university. It's funny, but some of the wee hobbits' favourite books were nonfiction written for children in the 1800s -- they were written by authors who were obviously keen about their subject, and so it made for vivid and interesting storytelling. Thus, I think Frodo might find A Child's History of Gondor to be an interesting read... Two of our modern favourites for little ones have been Peek-a-Boo by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, and Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear? And Curious George... we had a big book compiled of many stories (all? I'm not sure) and read through it over and over. Good choice! Your Great Nephew is very lucky indeed in his Auntie Tigger.

Larner · 14 July 2015 · Chapter 47: I'd like to introduce you to an old friend of mine... (double drabble)

Oh, yes--I can see Faramir wishing to read the OTHER tales and thus learning to read so as to learn the other histories that weren't focused on battles! Heh!

Author's reply

I have known children to be motivated to learn to read, to practically teach themselves, actually, because of a burning desire to read something specific... To unlock the world of wonder that lies in the words... Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you!

Larner · 14 July 2015 · Chapter 46: Love's First Kiss

Such hope as she might offer is of more power than she might guess! Perhaps he'll now find reason to remain!

Author's reply

Ah, yes. What started as a clown's silly joke -- Denny showing his fellow guardsmen, during their time off in the marketplace, how to "woo", or perhaps how not to -- blossomed into a lifelong love. (I can be such a romantic, sheesh.)

Linda Hoyland · 11 July 2015 · Chapter 47: I'd like to introduce you to an old friend of mine... (double drabble)

A lovely glimpse of Frodo and Faramir.

Author's reply

Thank you! They seemed like kindred spirits to me -- the souls of poets, with the resolve to do what must be done (soldier, and Ring-bearer).

Dreamflower · 2 July 2015 · Chapter 45: The Siege of Gondor

Oh lovely! That cock crowing was just wonderful, wasn't it? And then those horns...I am sure there were many besides Pippin whom those two sounds comforted.

Author's reply

Oh, yes! The cock crowing, oblivious to looming disaster, or portent, perhaps, of the changing tide. Thanks!

Larner · 1 July 2015 · Chapter 45: The Siege of Gondor

Ooh, but I LOVE the POV for this one. And the sound of the horns of Rohan will from now on thrill and reassure her, and cause her to relate once more how the sound of that cock followed by the horns foretold victory out of what had seemed certain defeat!

Author's reply

Yes, the sound of a horn will always mean something special to her, just as it does to Merry. Thanks!

shirebound · 30 June 2015 · Chapter 45: The Siege of Gondor

Oh, what a great POV to write from. And what a moment for everyone experiencing that special day.

Author's reply

Thank you! I was thinking of the greengrocer's wife all week, while working on the puppy story, so this snippet just came out of (apparent) nowhere while I was contemplating the greengrocer's memories of the Siege and the battle before the Black Gate.

Larner · 7 March 2015 · Chapter 44: Claiming the Prize

Definitely this would make Peregrin the First laugh! Delightful reminder of how Pippin came to his honors when still merely a tween!

Author's reply

Thank you, that was exactly what I was aiming for!

shirebound · 6 March 2015 · Chapter 44: Claiming the Prize

A worthy youth indeed, and a courageous one. I like him very much.

Author's reply

He reminds me of somebody... :) Thanks!

Larner · 16 April 2013 · Chapter 43: Seeds of friendship sown

Oh, but trust Elanor to put Ferdibrand at ease! Lovely!

Author's reply

Ah, yes, sensible (and sensitive) lass that she is.

Dreamflower · 8 April 2013 · Chapter 43: Seeds of friendship sown

Aww...this one is so sweet! I love Elanor's large heart!

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! I don't know why, but there seem to be several drabbles (or doubles, or flfs) with the same title clomping around in the back of my brain. Perhaps I should break it out into a separate series... Working on the next chapter of The Farmer's Son but I keep getting interrupted. Drabbles are so much easier to finish!

shirebound · 31 January 2013 · Chapter 43: There at Pelagir lay the main fleet of Umbar

Oh my, that gave me chills. What a wonderful, unlooked-for moment.

Author's reply

Thank you! It just hit me as I re-read that passage, and I had an urge to try and craft a drabble out of that scene. Difficult to squeeze so much emotion into so few words, but I'm glad it worked. Author Reply: Oops, it was too long ago -- I thought it was in the reading, but it was actually in the listening to the BBC drama that the scene came to life. Funny, the tricks memory plays!

Dreamflower · 30 January 2013 · Chapter 43: There at Pelagir lay the main fleet of Umbar

Oh, what marvelous imagery--stark and evocative; the terror followed by the comfort!

Author's reply

Thank you! We were listening to the BBC LOTR and this scene just jumped out at me. I wondered about those slaves, many of them men of Gondor, and how they'd been captured, and how long they'd spent chained to oars, and what happened after...

Larner · 30 January 2013 · Chapter 43: There at Pelagir lay the main fleet of Umbar

Ah, what a shock that must have been, for the captives indeed to find themselves at last free once more, ready to row not due to fear of the whip but to fight the very ones who sparked their former captors to take them as slaves!

Author's reply

Exactly! And how amazing it must have been for them to come home, after being lost, and considered lost.

Grey Wonderer · 16 November 2010 · Chapter 42: Swiftly fly the passing days

Stumbled upon this today and really enjoyed it. I do so admire well done drabbles. This is lovely. I could see this in my mind as I read it and the sense of foreboding in it was very well done. It has a very nice feel to it if that makes sense.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I have missed fanfic these past months... sure wish that RL would allow more time for reading *and* writing. (As it is, I have almost no time unless I stay up after everyone else is in bed, and then I'm a wreck in the morning. But tomorrow's a holiday, so at least I can sleep in.) It makes perfect sense, by the way. Often the "feel" of a story stays with me, way longer than the actual words.

Larner · 15 November 2010 · Chapter 42: Swiftly fly the passing days

Oh, but a most proper of titles, double meaning and all! Very apropos, I know. And Frodo must at times have dreaded these migrations, knowing they aggravated Bilbo's wanderlust so.

Author's reply

Very belated reply, but just wanted you to know how I appreciate your thoughtful response. My dad suffered greatly from wanderlust, though it was always the geese in spring and autumn that set him off.

Andrea · 9 November 2010 · Chapter 42: Swiftly fly the passing days

Beautiful image! The swifts, however, always return in the summer, which Bilbo did not. But still, Frodo and Bilbo met again and went on their last, greatest journey together. I like to watch and listen to the swifts myself and am always a little sad when they leave.

Author's reply

I missed the swifts this year, though I thought about them at their normal time. We were just too busy to go someplace where we could sit and watch them swirl. Hopefully next year... Thanks!

harrowcat · 4 November 2010 · Chapter 42: Swiftly fly the passing days

apologies for the pun in the title. sometimes puns are hard to resist. especially one as good as that!! Loved this.

Author's reply

Thanks! (and you're right. mostly I try to resist puns, but sometimes...)

Larner · 16 April 2010 · Chapter 41: Gathering and Sharing

Ooh--what a wealth of new stories and chapters from you this week, Lindelea! And this one is SO appropriate to yesterday! At least that is over with!

Author's reply

So glad that tax day is well over, but keep hearing disquieting info that with the tax cuts expiring, even people in our bracket are going to have to pay more taxes, when we're already cutting expenses as it is... *sigh* And now election day is over, and wondering if things will be different, or more of the same. Hobbits make for a nice diversion, anyhow. Thanks!

eiluj · 15 April 2010 · Chapter 41: Gathering and Sharing

I hope poor Holly was left with something for her tea.... Poor hobbits! ["As a matter of fact", I was just checking SoA while waiting for the printer to print out some instructions I needed to answer a question on my own taxes....]

Author's reply

Just revisited "Drabbles" to add another and realised I hadn't answered reviews. How rude! Belated thanks for your note.

Larner · 14 April 2010 · Chapter 40: I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.

What a wonderful, wonderful gift! Definitely angsty, and so appropriatedly so! Poor Frodo! And thank YOU so for your friendship and all. Headed home tomorrow, to the same job under new management, and perhaps a change to come as time goes by. Love to you always, and to the family as well. Thanks so very much.

Author's reply

You are more than welcome (then, and now)! Hope that all is going well with you and those you care for.

Dreamflower · 14 April 2010 · Chapter 40: I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.

Oh my! It's such a sad, bittersweet moment, when Frodo's inner courage and strength just shines! And you show so well what he must have been feeling.

Author's reply

Thank you! (Sorry to be so belated, don't know how I overlooked this.)
