Larner · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
Yes--war is past, and now we live again as Hobbits of the Shire--in peace. Lovely, Lindelea.
Author's reply
Thank you. Looking forward to seeing you when you can manage.

Larner · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 22: October the Sixth
Yes, a wonderfully appropriate dribble for today. And so Frodo does what he can, little as it might seem at the time. Far more courageous than most realize, considering how others are paralyzed when facing this foe.
demeter d · 13 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
The war whose end we remember on November 11th had been Tolkien and C.S.Lewis's war, it was to be "the war to end all wars". Sadly, all it did was to usher in the end of the European age of medieval-feudal relative "innocence". The world became much less 'simpler" than it had once seemed to be. It is so lovely to read at the end of the trilogy about the Hobbit's age of peace, streching into the distant future. We value more the peace which is so rare in "real life". Nicely done!
Author's reply
Yes, I was thinking of "the war to end all wars" as I wrote this. Thanks!
Bodkin · 13 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
But this is the most important part: Swords hang over the hearth, Bows are for hunting, Axes rest by the woodpile, and Pitchforks hang up in the barn. Best commemoration any war can have. Peace - and the appreciation of it.
Author's reply
So true. Thanks.
Pearl Took · 12 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
I read from the first "The Battle of Bywater" through to this of the same name - poignant, wonderfully touching and poignant. MEWD
Author's reply
Thank you! And I just now realised, reading your review, that there are two chapters with the same title.
Grey Wonderer · 12 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
The peace that this speaks of is what I wish for everyone. Very well said!
Author's reply
Thank you!
harrowcat · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
A perfectly wonderful drabble Lindelea. Is the layout on the page deliberate because the second half definitely adds to the overall effect.
Author's reply
Yes, the break between the two halves is deliberate. Thanks for noticing!
Andrea · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 23: The Battle of Bywater, afterwords
Wow! That was a great one, Lindelea! A drabble is very difficult to write, it forces you to focus on that what really counts: After the Battle of Bywater tools are tools again and swords are mathoms. The hobbits can live peaceful once more, but they had to pay a high prize for it! Thank you :)
Author's reply
Yes, well said, a drabble is an exercise in focus. And yes, that is just what I was aiming at. Tools are tools and swords are mathoms. I was thinking of that old verse about swords being beaten into plowshares, while writing this.
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 22: October the Sixth
Oh, how chilling! *shivers* But it's very well written, and again, I love the lyrical style with which you capture this moment of mingled heroism and seeming failure. (I've often wondered how much was Frodo's giving in and how much was beyond his control.) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
I do think that much was beyond his control. He was not sufficiently on his guard at the Prancing Pony, and though he'd heard of the Black Riders this was the first time he'd seen them face-to-face. And now you've made me think of the scene where he and Sam are hiding in the Dead Marshes (I think) and the Nazgul is flying overhead, and Sam helps Frodo keep from putting the Ring on, because Frodo cannot resist, no matter how hard he fights.
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 21: October the Third
I always wanted to see Gandalf's POV here, and you do it marvellously. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Thank you! I've never written much of Gandalf's POV, so it was quite the challenge.
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 20: Remembrance Day
Oh, I read the reviews and I understand now. Poor Boromir. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Alas, poor Boromir. Have you read any of Pipkinsweetgrass' Beekeeper story? It's an AU where Boromir survives, and very well done. (And I'm one who doesn't usually enjoy AU... so take it from me!)
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 20: Remembrance Day
This is probably a silly question, but what were they weeping for? I try to remember all the dates, but I must have missed this. It's lovely, though. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
I see from your next review that you found the answer to your question. I only knew the date because I looked it up! (This was posted for Memorial Day, I think, or else Veterans' Day. I don't remember, exactly. So the date wouldn't have matched in any event.)
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 19: The Battle of Bywater
Yes, the Hobbits of the Shire will find that the four travellers, even Frodo who did not draw his sword, are wiser about such things than any Hobbit would guess. And Frodo did right. The ruffians were cruel, but it's unfair to keep fighting and killing when the enemy has surrendered. I'm sure most of them were cowards, after all, obeying Saruman out of fear and not love. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
And perhaps some of them were unnaturally swayed by Saruman's voice... Though I'm sure many were bullies, perhaps one or two were caught up in a web of words and couldn't get free. (Sad thought.)
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 18: Petals on the Wind
No, that would never do. "He loves me not." Oh, how sad! But at least it came out all right in the end. :) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
So glad that it got sorted out and the right hobbits married the right lasses!
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 17: Belated Birthday at Crickhollow
Aw, how like our Pip to lighten the situation! LOL! God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Even in the grip of a fever he cannot seem to stop himself cracking jokes...
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 16: Where the Sky Kisses the Horizon, There My Dreams Lie
Awww...sweet. I love Aragorn as the healer! Aragorn took it up, smelling the freshness of salt air, hearing faintly the lullaby of waves and crying gulls. That is so lyrical! God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Goodness, you left me a raft of lovely reviews! Thank you! I love the title to this one. Seems as if it ought to be a song. Strangely, for some reason it reminds me of an old Star Trek episode (just the title, not the episode). "For the World is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky."
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 15: Heat
Lovely foreshadowing in a fevered dream. If only it could have remained a dream...but then there would be no story. God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 14: Happy Birthday, RSF! (obviously heavily borrowed, but still sincere)
I feel like I keep repeating myself, but this is truly beautiful and poignant. At first I thought this might be in Mordor, but no. The star returned to lift the darkness of grief a little? God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 13: March 25 SR 1419 (Rosie Cotton)
*cheers* I love dramatizations of this moment! And I love your descriptions! God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Thank you! I like to think that the echo of the Ring's destruction rolled across Middle-earth like a wave. (I wonder if it was even felt in the Undying Lands?)
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 12: Tales of Old Wives (three drabbles)
Oh, I love these! I especially love how you used Frodo's words here: He’s had so much to enjoy, and to be, and to do. He shall not always be torn in two. Beautiful. God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 11: Before the Call to Muster
I love these little moments, Lindelea. This one is beautiful and sad and somehow sweet. God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 10: Happy Birthday, Bilbo and Frodo!
This reads just like poetry. I love it! God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 9: At the Witch King's Feet
I love your Merry's POV. Very true to the book. This makes me want to cry. God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Thank you! This was the point where I fell in love with Merry as a young teen. I've loved him ever since. (That doesn't mean I find him easy to write! I think my infatuation interferes with creative thought.)
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 8: A Drabble for Dana
LOL! Oh, that is so, so, so cute! :) :) :) *melts* God bless, Galadriel
Queen Galadriel · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 7: Dernhelm's Ride
You've captured Eowyn's despair very well I think. Wow. God bless, Galadriel
