This was amazing

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 6

awww how sweet~ =) “A similar thing happened with your cousin,” the wizard continued. “The Shadow was driven away not only because of the stars’ presence, but because of your desire to bring comfort to Merry. That you were quite capable of looking after him, wounded as you are, no doubt helped your cousin to see that, perhaps, you would be well again.” Gandalf smiled, his eyes twinkling. “His hope increased, and Merry soon grew determined to be free of the Shadow, allowing the stars to chase it away.” I like the function of the stars very much--i think i need to read the prequel to understand more. But indeed, they will shine on our precioussss hobbits all the time whenever they're in need. Because they're all Love. :) I always adore your Gandalf and Pippin dialogues and this last chapter was wonderful to read. Wonderful story, Jen--thank you for giving me another nudge in here since i *did* intend to come in here fro while--(since our Narnia meeting ;) ::cheerstoyou:: This is very well written. ::adds to favorite stories:: (and recced this to frodobaggins_88) ;) =)

I hope you understand the function of the stars now that you've read "Stars and Sniffles"...there is another in this "trilogy" but it doesn't deal with the stars, it just takes place within this 'verse and uses some of the details in this story (like the eagles) in it. :) Thank you for taking the time to read it, dear...I know I've pestered you about it LOL. Your reviews are lovely and I really do appreciate them - all of them! - and thank you also for reccing it. It really means a lot. But most of all I'm glad you enjoyed it. *hugs*

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 5

And i love this little bit: “I’m sorry,” Merry repeated, angrily wiping away his tears. “You should be resting and trying to get well again, and not fussing over me.” “How can I rest when I’m worried about you?” Pippin asked simply. Merry smiled a little at that, and dropped a kiss on his cousin’s forehead. So true. oh so Love. :) Yes indeed, how can Pippin rest with such a horrific nightmare that was so vivid and scared Pippin? awwwww hobbitses~~! ::hugsbothPippinand Merry::

Author's reply

This is why both of them need to be happy and healthy, or else the other will be miserable! *squishes into the group hug* :)

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 5

I love Merry's nightmare... that was so unexpected since... well i thought there would be more Pippin healing because i know Pippin is so in need of more care. awww Pippin! But yeah, Merry angst is one of my faves and the nightmare--ooo creepy indeed!!! I so love it. So cool for Pippin's stars to help Merry. :) Slowly, he grew confident that Pippin would recover, and Frodo and Sam as well, and that they would return home to the Shire at last, whole and healthy and together. I wish all were whole and healthy ....but that's a nice event to imagine. I so wish Frodo would've stayed healthy and whole but there are some wounds that go too deep. :( but yes, this chapter,..... definitely warrants rereading... i just love the nightmare so very much. >=)

Author's reply

Merry's nightmare came from a bunny Marigold sent me. It was so much fun to write another dream-state, and a much creepier one than Pippin's in chapter two. The Black Breath is definitely something interesting to explore. Yes Pippin is in need of comfort and so is Merry. It must have been so difficult for Merry to be the only conscious hobbit and trying to deal with that all the while he is healing from his own injuries. As you said, I wish all the hobbits were whole all the time. Thank you for reading!

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 4

ooo yummy "c" and i love fevers. >=) poor Pippin! i'm just glad everyone is there to help him. :) And i'm glad for the detail with no smoking --indeed that will not help breathing or healing of his ribs... =) I liked this chapter a lot.

Author's reply

You love fevers? LOL! I'll try to remember that :D I thought the "no smoking" bit was something integral to Pippin's recovery and yet I couldn't remember seeing it in any Cormallen fics that I'd read. So I had to include it here - and I'm glad you liked it too :) I love all these reviews you're leaving me! Thanks :D

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 3

awww Merry comes! the whole dialogue with Gandalf was written so well... i love Merry angst and i love the fact that Pippin awoke and Merry and Gandalf are there for him. Sighing a little in disappointment when he found nothing, Merry opened Pippin’s hand a little to steal a glimpse at the stars inside. They gleamed vibrantly in the dim tent, their light casting into shadow the lines of care on Merry’s face, his worry making him seem much older than his years. I really like these sentences... =) I think i was always an unconscious Merry fan. :P and PIppin waking--awww! more "c" to come i'm sure. :)

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! Glad you liked the Merry angst (unconscious Merry fan, eh? *grin*) and Pippin waking. I loved writing dialogue between Merry and Gandalf because so often I write Pippin and Gandalf. Gandalf is a great mentor to all hobbits :D

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 2

awww what a beautiful chapter--i love the image of Pippin chasing the stars and it's such wonderful description. :) And i like the ending sentence because it really makes me feel like reading more. :)

Author's reply

It was fun writing a dream state and thanks so much for liking the descriiptions here. It was fun to show Pippin and the stars interact :)

Periantari · 17 April 2006 · Chapter 1

I love the image of the eagles bringing the hobbits to Ithilien. I love the h/c for Pippin here and love the dialogue that Aragorn adn Gandalf have-- "Tiny wanderer" --awww! Pippin! I will read more as soon as i can. I can't wait for more h/c and to see how Pippin comes back to consciousness. Poor Pippin! ::goes to huggle him but sees that you have a firm grasp already of him:: :P ;)

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! I'm soo happy you're reading this and that you like it (so far)! :D I love writing Gandalf and Pippin. One of the best friendships in LOTR :) You can hug Pippin - but only for a bit and very gently! The poor darling is very hurt right now!

superkat · 10 January 2006 · Chapter 6

That. Is. So. CUTE.

Thanks very much! I'm glad you thought so :)

What an ending! I'm very busy now, biting my lip so I don't start do cry in the middle of several fellow-students. The picture of the stars twinkling and shining extra bright for Pippin is just adorable. I wonder if there are stars up there for all of us - or why would Gandalf have chosen exactly the two of them? Couldn't it be that they were Pippin's from the very begining and only through Gandalf was their purpose made clear for the hobbits? Yes, I definitely like the idea. “When did you plan on saying something, Meriadoc?” the wizard demanded, his voice stern. “Or did you intend to suffer in silence?” Suffering in silence must be a Brandybuck trait. Merry reminds me very much of Frodo here. Suffer in silence and don't let anybody know how bad you really are - they could worry! I'm so glad you led me here!

Author's reply

I'm so glad you read this, and enjoyed it! I think you're exactly right about the nature of the stars. They are definitely Pippin's. Pippin first met them in "Stars and Sniffles," and they have been *his* stars ever since, and likely before, those events. Gandalf is the kindler of light and I used that as the basis of his ability to connect Pippin with his own pair of stars. But of course they only make an actual appearance on earth when there is a dire need for them. Otherwise, they are meant to comfort and reassure Pippin from afar - and certainly they do not go away when Gandalf leaves Middle-earth. They are there to stay. I agree with you, also, about Merry. He is stubborn and would rather look after his cousins and friends than himself. That is why he needs Pippin to look after him I'm very happy that you liked this story, Lily. Thank you so much for reading it and for your feedback.

Lily · 3 December 2005 · Chapter 4

This story is wonderful! It has angst, humour and emotion - everything a good story needs. I love the scene with Gandalf and Merry where the wizard talks about Pippin's inquisitiveness. First of all, because I love this scene in the book and because it has so much meaning in this story. And of course I love the stars and I just adore the idea of Pippin having two of them especially for himself. I like how they find him and lurk him into following them. Such a wonderful scene! Such a great story!

Author's reply

I'm very glad you enjoyed that scene with Gandalf and Merry. I think that Gandalf would have wanted to reassure Merry as best as he could, but also prepare him if things went bad (and thankfully they didn't!). And as for the stars, they first came into Pippin's life in "Stars and Sniffles," so it's as if a couple of old friends are visiting him :) I'm so glad you're reading this, Lily - and that you're enjoying it! I've told you how much this story means to me, and I really appreciate your feedback on it. Thank you! :D

storyfish · 24 July 2005 · Chapter 6

Wonderful tale! The idea of Gandalf giving Pippin stars is marvelous--I bet they're watching over his family in the Shire as well. I loved the imagery during Pip's confused wanderings...the mist, and the mountain toppling onto him. That was so vivid and startling and dreamlike! I always enjoy your stories (maybe 'cause I'm pip-obsessed too?)...I definitely plan on reading more of them now. ;-)

Author's reply

Thank you so much! What lovely comments! I'm so glad you like the stars, and I agree that they're definitely watching over the Tooks back home :) And thank you for saying that you enjoyed the imagery, that makes me very happy :) Heehee. Pip-obsessed is a great way of describing it!

Hai Took · 19 July 2005 · Chapter 6

That was very sweet! I loved the way you used the Star to guide Pippin back to his friends and then to help Merry. Gandalf and Pippin coming to the conclusion that the stars worked because they, Merry and Pippin all were able to put their faith in one another. Splendid! I liked the very end the best with Gandalf coming in a Pippin so pleased that he was able to find his stars in the sky so quickly. Very sweet!

Author's reply

Thanks very much, Hai! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story; it was such fun to write. I'm glad you liked the bit of Merry-healing, too, I thought it was time for him to have some hurt/comfort for a change! :)

pipspebble · 1 July 2005 · Chapter 6

Oh, hon, this is just the sweetest ending I could think of! What a brilliant job you've done with this story; it is absolute perfection. Thank you so much for this gift of stars. I'll never forget it. :-)

Author's reply

Thanks for all your wonderful support and comments along the way, Pips! It means a lot! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this story. Thank you! :)

Auntiemeesh · 26 June 2005 · Chapter 6

This is such a lovely story. Pippin was such a clever lad, to think that his stars might heal Merry, when he was feeling so poorly himself. And it's such a beautiful image, to think that those stars are watching over Pippin all the time, and will always be there when he needs guidance. :D

Author's reply

Pippin is most clever when he needs to help someone, I think. I'm so happy that you liked the stars, and the story! Thanks, Meesh! :)

Larner · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

Lovely, gentle imagery.

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner! :)

pipinheart · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

This is a very lovely piece, loved it ! Its kind of a lovely thought that when things go dark, that the stars will lead you home again to those who love you. Pippin knows his stars helped merry face the darkness that thought to overwhelm him,as they helped him find his way back to himself. I love the sequence with Gandalf...Very nice... Great job....

Author's reply

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments! I really appreciate them. I'm very glad that you enjoyed this story - thank you so much! :)

Andrea · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

“They are your own pair of stars and you shall always be able to find them when you need to,” Gandalf said. “They will be there to guide you when the world turns dark around you, or when you feel lost or alone. And when you are surrounded by sunshine, still your stars will remain, though they may be hidden by the brighter light of happier times. They will never abandon you.” That's a beautiful thought! Maybe, some day Pippin and his children will watch the night sky and he will tell them the story of his pair of stars and the old wizard!

Author's reply

I'm so thrilled that you liked that part - it was one of the first things written for this fic, and was originally meant to be in chapter three but got bounced around and landed here. And I love your idea about Pippin and his children! I think I'll tuck that away as a potential plot bunny. Thanks, Andrea! :)

Pearl Took · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

Beautiful!!!! I'm teary. Such a wonderful thought, that one is being watched over by something (someone?)so far above the world. Wonderful :) Thank you :)

Author's reply

I couldn't have written Pippin in pain if not for the promise of comfort later :) I'm very glad that you enjoyed it! Thank you, Pearl! :)

Connie B. · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

That was such a sweet story filled with such lovely imagery. I am so glad I read it. This chapter brought a smile to face first thing in the morning. You do a great job with the relationship between Gandalf and Pippin. Thanks for sharing this with us. Connie B.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and all your comments along the way, Connie! I'm very happy that you enjoyed the conclusion, and since I love writing Pippin and Gandalf I'm delighted that you liked them here :)

Dreamflower · 25 June 2005 · Chapter 6

*sniff* This is so sweet and beautiful; Pippin watched over by his stars forever--*sigh* I do so love your Pippin and Gandalf together...

Author's reply

Thanks for such lovely comments! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. I love writing Pippin and Gandalf, so I'm especially happy that you liked them! Thank you for reading along :)

Andrea · 23 June 2005 · Chapter 5

What a scary dream! But Merry was able, to defeat the wraith on his own! And with Pippin's stars he is able now to defeat the Shadow! I love those stars :) Thank you!

Author's reply

I'm so happy that you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks so much, Andrea! :)

pipspebble · 23 June 2005 · Chapter 5

*long-drawn-out-happy sigh* Oh, my dear, this is simply beautiul! I continue to adore this story, and am somewhat dismayed to see that the next chapter will be the last. I'm very much looking forward to it, but fully expect you to start right on another as soon as it is posted. (Got to feed the monkey, you know) Again, bravo on a job very well done! I am one happy reader! :-)

Author's reply

Wow, thank you, Pips! I'm so happy that you've enjoyed this story. I'm very honored that you want more! I am working on a sequel of sorts right now, which will be set in this 'verse, and Marigold said that she has more Star-verse bunnies for me when I need them. I hope you like the final chapter of this story which I'll be posting soon. Thanks again, Pips! *hugs*

Grey Wonderer · 23 June 2005 · Chapter 5

(Merry grinned as he carefully settled himself more comfortably beside his cousin. “I’m content enough to leave the stars to you, Pippin. It gives me peace of mind to know that you’re being watched over even when I can’t be with you.” His smile wavered, and he looked troubled again.) I loved that part about the stars watching over Pippin. This is a terrific story and I will be sorry to see it end. I am getting quite attached to Pippin's stars and I am glad that they have gotten a second story. Maybe they should be continuing characters. I keep wondering if they might show up on their own after Gandalf has left for the Grey Havens. Surely the stars don't go with him, or do they?

Author's reply

Are you trying to spring some plot bunnies on me, GW? :D Gandalf will address the issue of the stars in the final chapter. As for more stories, I'm working on something now that is set in this Star-verse (though not exactly about the stars) and Marigold says that she has more bunnies for me when I have the time. So hopefully there will be more eventually. I definitely want to continue, since this was the most fun I ever had in writing a story :) Anyway, I'm so happy that you're enjoying this and thank you very much for leaving me such lovely comments! :)
