Legolass, This story is amazing. All of us fans appreciate all the hard work you put into it. I was literally gripping the edge of my seat! I hope to see more of your work in future other than what I have already read. I'm working on a story about how Legolas and Aragorn meet. Is there a way I could send a chapter or two to you and you can tell me what you think? I'm not sure I have as much 'knowledge' of Middle Earth as you seem to have. Just let me know! Great story! Edhel Maethor

Author's reply

It's been ages since a review came my way at this SoA site, Edhel, so yours is MUCH appreciated, thank you. :-) It's always to know one's writing is enjoyed. Unfortunately, work has been very demanding and so I've been unable to write much more than the stories that I've already posted, though I hope to write something new at some point. :-( For the same reason, I wouldn't be of much help to anyone in terms of beta-ing a story, I'm afraid, but if you're okay with me taking a quick look at your two chapters, I'd be happy to. You can mail it to me at mazquendi@msn.com. Thanks again for your review, Edhel. Talk to you later!

Red Squirrel · 5 March 2008 · Chapter 32: Resolution

Dear Legolass, we are having a very successful campaign here in Aswan. Although two weeks ago, it was cold enough to drink hot mulled wine on the terrace over the Nile at night, the weather is now beautiful and very warm. So far, we have been able to excavate two very large buildings, one soldiers barracks and the headquarters building, complete with strong room and sacellum. There was also a large pit with a depot of several complete ceramic vessels for storage, which was exiting to uncover. We have also been visiting the Western Desert Oasis, where some Roman forts still stand to a height of about 15 metres or so. We went by four-wheel-drive, but we still got stuck in a sand dune and had to dig ourselves out again. ;-) Now the campaign is almost over and I will soon be back home again. It is incredible how time is flying by here! I am looking forward to meet you and our favorite Elf and Ranger soon in Arda again. Till then, lots of love and warm hugs, your rodent :-)

Author's reply

My dear, dear rodent, How wonderful to hear from you! I'd begun to wonder if we'd lost you to the desert sands. Sounds like you've had a very exciting and fruitful dig - I wonder if it ever feels eerie when you dig up something that old... Anyway, you must let me know if any of your discoveries are shown in some documentary on the Nat Geographic or Discovery Channel. Make sure you got your mug shot in there too, of course. I'll watch out for that bushy tail! So you'll be home again soon, and I'm happy for you. Now, if I didn't know you better, I'd say that this message from you doubled as a subtle way of asking for a new story, lol! But maybe not, which would be good, because I'm still struggling for time to write up the ideas whirling around in my mind, sigh... But story or no story, I do hope I get to hear from you again. You were missed. :-) Legolass

What a glorious ending. If I could have attached an Emoticon from another site to this email, it would have been of one bowing to you. Tari

Author's reply

Author Reply: Tari, this is a long overdue reply. Thank you so much for all the reviews you left. I appreciate that you wrote them even though the tale had already been finished. Most of all, I'm really glad you enjoyed this tale that I loved writing so much. It's worth it when there are wonderful readers like you who love the characters as I do. I don't know that I can change names and publish the story, as so much of it is really based on Tolkien's earlier works. Perhaps when I retire from my full-time job now, I will take your suggestion into consideration and actually publish a story for money. :-) Thanks for all your encouraging words. If I ever find the time to write a new LOTR tale, I hope I will see you again. With much appreciation, Legolass

Tari · 10 October 2007 · Chapter 31: In Shadow Realm: The End

I don’t even know where to begin. Reading this story has been a truly awesome adventure for me. I hated to see it end. It was masterful, powerful, scary and beautiful. I love how the friendship grew between the men and elves. You gave Celeborn’s remaining behind real purpose. Legolas will always remain number one in my heart. Like you (I think), I consider myself to be an Elf. The strength of friendship shown is beyond anything I have ever experienced. I feel a bit lost now because there are no more of your stories to read. I only hope that someday time will allow you to write more. I would love to meet you in person someday. You will always remain one of my favorite authors, right up there with JRRT. I am sending this without having read the final chapter which I go to now. I don't know if there will be much more to say, just..... Thank you so much Tari

Tari · 9 October 2007 · Chapter 29: Maelstrom

Remind me to breath. It's hard to do when reading this story. This chapter is why Legolas is my favorite character. He is amazing. I still think you should replace the Tolkien names with your own and send it to a publisher. Not only is it a wonderful read, but it would make an excellent movie. Thank you for taking the time to write it. Tari

Author's reply

"Not only is it a wonderful read, but it would make an excellent movie." --- without meaning to sound conceited, I have to agree with you on this point, Tari. :-) I think In Shadow Realm WOULD make a great movie; I'm glad you think so too. I actually wrote it with all those spectacular scenes in the Haunted Mountain and Shelob's Cave playing in my head. Sigh... I wish some movie maker could read this and get the same idea. :-) In the meantime, this 'movie' will play in our minds and hearts. And you don't need tickets! Legolass

Tari · 9 October 2007 · Chapter 27: Hearts of Darkness

I became so upset while reading this chapter that I wanted to jump into the scene and beat the stuffings out of Fierthwain. What a totally hateful person he is. I can't wait to find out who will rescue Legolas and Elrohir. The sooner, the better. I hope Fierthwain and his cohorts get their just rewards for this evil deed. They are sooooo stupid. Tari

Tari · 5 October 2007 · Chapter 23: Reawakening

Wow!!!! You had me sitting on the edge of my chair. This is a real nail bitter. Tari

Tari · 2 October 2007 · Chapter 21: Elusiveness

What an abosolutely BEAUTIFUL tribute to Sam and Frodo.

Author Reply: Author Reply: Thank you, Tari, I'm glad you shared this tribute with me - though I think this review was meant for the previous chapter instead of this one. :-) Legolass

Tari · 26 September 2007 · Chapter 15: Parting of Ways

Here I am again. I find it difficult not to read this story whenever time is on my side. I found a bit of humor in this chapter which was certainly needed given the darkness of the tale. I especially loved "an expression dour enough to picke orcs". That really made me chuckle. Tari

Author's reply

I wouldn't mind the power to pickle orcs myself. :-) Thank you for letting me know you liked that image too, Tari. Legolass

Tari · 26 September 2007 · Chapter 14: The Summons

I am once again being attacked by a case of the chills. I thought for sure Elessar had sent the evil spirits away. But no, we are still left hanging. You are such a masterful story teller. All you would have to do is change the names and I a sure you could get this story published. How wonderful that would be. Tari

Author's reply

Brrr... and the chills arent quite over yet, Tari. :-) Thank you very much for your vote of confidence about my writing. A few other readers have suggested the same thing. For now, all I can think about is LOTR fiction - but perhaps one day I will try and get something published. If I ever do, I will remember your words of encouragement. :-) Legolass

Tari · 21 September 2007 · Chapter 8: Return to Pelargir

I can't believe you wrote this half asleep. I can't write this well fully awake. What a totally chilling chapter. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. The question in my mind is who will help Aragorn and how. The undead cannot have him. Tari

Author's reply

Author Reply: Author Reply: Author Reply: It will take you *quite* a few more chapters to know who can and will -truly- help Aragorn, Tari. :-) Thanks very much for the review. Maybe I should write more horror stories half-asleep then, lol! Legolass

Tari · 31 August 2007 · Chapter 5: The Call

This is the last work day before my vacation. Sitting at my desk eating lunch, I felt the urge to continue reading. The thought of waiting two weeks or more to find out what this "thing or person" is that is calling to Aragorn is going to be hard to do. It is down right creepy, chilling, spooky. This is turning into an excellent mystery. Tari

Author's reply

Lol! Tari - curiousity may not kill you, but it may certainly have 'lengthened' your lunch hour if you had kept reading! Well, did it? :-D You will of course be already on your way to your vacation destination - so this may reach your email after you get back. I hope you had a great time, and I hope to hear from you again soon after your return. Thanks much for this review. Legolass

grumpy · 4 July 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

While I am glad that they showed mercy to the villagers, I did get a kick out of Gimli and freinds singing act. Glad that Aragorn has Legolas, as someone who he can talk to, and help him. loved your story, and hope to see more. Sorry this review took so long, I needed a holiday to catch up on things.

Author's reply

Hi grumpy, Underneath all your amusing reviews, you really do love the depth of emotions behind the story's events and characters, don't you? :-) I shall miss reading them - thank you for all your support. Hope to see you again when(ever) a new story comes up. Take care till then! Legolass

Tiari Clovis · 2 July 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

Did that blank one go through? I don't know what I was thinking {Shakes head sadly} Anyway on with the review! What a wonderful ending to the story I really loved it. You write so beautifully and express your idea's so well- I know how hard that is to do. I very much enjoy reading your stories and look forward to each chapter. I love your idea about the Glass pool for our hero's. You really get the closeness of their friendship down very well and yet express the love for the others in their lives as well. My favorite part in this chapter has to be when they arrived at the Glass pool and Aragorn said: "For those dark, dark hours, my friend – who knows how many? – you were all I held on to, all that I believed in - indeed, all that I knew,” Aragorn said. “I escaped a fate worse than death only because you were there, and you knocked at the door of my soul till I answered, even as you promised you would. Ever shall that door be unlocked for you, Legolas.” What a heart melter and my favorite line in the chapter. Well I didn't notice anything this time, perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough?

Author's reply

Hi Tiari, Yes I did get a blank review - but I have deleted it so you don't have to shake your head sadly anymore. :-) Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad the chapter ends the story well for you. I love writing about their friendship and am heartened when someone else appreciates it just as much. Hope to see you again some time; your company is always welcome! Legolass

Red Squirrel · 28 June 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

Thank you merci beaucoup danke schoen schukran for this final (*sigh*) beautiful and after all the heartache much needed chapter. And above all, many thanks for the (totally undeserved, but much appreciated) dedication! I love Hamille's bonding, he so totally deserves that kind of happiness. *ow!* Legolas' embarrassment at the question of his own wedding was that hilarious, LOL!! The entire female population of the Greenwood and half the maidens in Gondor, ha! He's really rather innocently blind (blindly innocent?) in some respects. *ouch!* Fierthwain's final fate appeals a lot to some of my lower instincts, I must admit. Somehow I'd never pictured him going to execution, but Gimli's revenge is so, so sweet - let me join in that particular tune about war and victory :-)! Putting him to some useful labour in Ithilien seems a very good idea, although I'm not sure that will cure him of his stupidity. Perhaps Gimli's songs will hammer some sense into him, LOL! *ow!* (That's the Hamille fan-club, throwing acorns at me. I'm not QUITE sure if they want to feed me or chase me up a tree...) :-D With "Shadow Realm" you have created an exceptionally beautiful part of Arda again. I really don't know which I like better, "White Tree" or "Shadow Realm", they are quite different and brilliant and I enjoyed them both immensely, I really can't say, but I do so love your style of writing. Nononononono I won't say it will you no I won't! I won't ask ifyou'regoingtowriteanotherstorysoon - there now I did it anyway, but never mind! Let's keep in touch all the same; I will send you a mail before I start off into the wild again ;-) ! And, welcome back home; that must be an awful jet lag to sleep off. I hope you find the time to do it at leisure, you deserve all the rest you can get! HUGS Your faithful rodent

Author's reply

My favorite furry friend: I happened to be online when this came in, so I'd better get in a reply before I lose you to the wilds again (although that's not till August if I remember correctly). I would offer you plaster and ointment for the many acorns thrown at you, but the reactions to Hamille's bonding have been positive so far - so I guess they aim to feed you. :-) However, I can't be certain that some readers aren't silently plotting to cement you in while you hibernate... It's okay that you have asked ifi'mgoingtowriteanotherstorysoon. All it takes is for me to answer IwillwriteoneassoonasIcanwhichmaynotbeanytimenextweekorevennextmonthbutI'llgetaroundtoiteventually. There. Answered. :-) I did sleep off much of the jet lag, but am off again to another work retreat tomorrow, sigh... Can I borrow your nest to hide in?? Yes please, let's keep in touch. I shall miss you when you go off again, but I hope you will check in from time to time - especially if I manage to start another tale. :-) Thank you very much for your continuous support on this one! Take care always. Warm hugs, dear rodent. Legolass

Noor · 25 June 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

Thank you for such a great tale with a resolution that is much welcomed after all the earlier drama and nailbiting! Noor

I'm glad the ending pleases you, Noor. Thanks for reading the tale, and I hope to have more of your company whenever I can post again. Legolass

Linda Hoyland · 25 June 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

THis has been a great story and I am sorry it is over.I liked the way you showed it took Aragorn a long time to recover, which was very realistic. I love your Aragorn and you make Legolas far more interesting than I usually find him. I'm also pleased you have included Arwen, Faramir and Eldarion. Aragorn's lesson is one we could all too well to heed. Thank you for a most enjoyable story.

Author's reply

It's been a great pleasure having your company throughout the tale as well, Linda, and as I've said before, the approval of an Aragorn lover such as yourself means a lot to me. :-) Thanks for always being there, and hope to see you again some time. Legolass

eliza61 · 24 June 2007 · Chapter 32: Resolution

wonderful ending Legolass and yet I didn't want to review. I think I'm reverting back to a 3 year old covering my eyes thinking if I can't see the monsters, they won't see me. Maybe if I don't review, the story won't end. I guess I'm feeling melancholy. Happy to see Hamille married but feeling like I'm losing a friend and as always moved by the depth of feelings you give our favorite heroes. Ah maybe that's what great writers do, make you feel things through their stories. Well done Legolass Enjoy California

Author's reply

Mae govannen mellon nin, I just got home an hour and a half ago (it was a nice break, thank you), and I need to sleep off the jet lag from a 20-hour journey (the journey TO Quebec took 26) - but I wanted to say hi to you first, and to tell you that I am SO sorry I didn't have time to call you while I was in the States. :-( But I will try to do from here some time - is that ironic or what? :-D I know what you mean by 'losing' a friend because of Hamille's bonding - it's as if he now belongs to another world. (But I will make sure we don't lose him.) And I also understand the melancholy you feel at the end of the story - I actually feel the same way. It's been a wonderful journey, and I thank for staying with me throughout, Eliza. For my own sake as well as yours, I hope I come up with another story soon. I think it's the only way I can keep sane. In the meantime, let's keep in touch anyway. Till our next monthly chat. Hugs Legolass

Dear Legolass thanks for the wonderful story,it was so lovely, Jacob says thanks too, he is growing so big he can stand now(for about two seconds)he still looks like a baby Estel with all his dark hair. Hope you get some more inspirations on a new story to write and I am glad you enjoyed the Rockies we flew over them last year going to California they beautiful from the air. Namarie to you and may a light shine on your path wereever you go.

Author's reply

Thanks very much for your constant support throughout this tale, Elflingimp, and I hope Jacob won't have grown to be a teenager by the time I post another! :-) May your bundle of joy continue to remind you of Estel - keep him and Legolas alive in your heart always. (please send me email from time to time to let me know how he's growing, okay?) Big hugs and goo-goo ga-ga! Legolass

Thank you, Legolass, for this wonderful story of love, friendship and never giving up the light for the dark.I particularly loved the end scene at the hidden pool.I'm glad Aragorn finally unburdened himself to his greatest friend and let go of his fears;the true healing can now really begin :) I awaited each chapter of this story with baited breath and was never disappointed by your words.I will miss your adventures of Aragorn & Legolas and I hope that you find time to write again in the not too distant future. Take care, Legolass. P.S Your trip sounded wonderful! Quebec & San Francisco are two of my favourite cities.I hope that you had lots of fun! Namarie.

Author's reply

I did have fun on my trip, Ali, thank you! I like SF very much - my third time there. :-) The trip will be especially memorable because I finished ISR while on it. I hope I will find time to write again so that I can keep our beloved Elf and Ranger alive always. Thanks so much for your faithful support throughout this tale and hope very much to see you in the next, whenever that comes. Hugs - and may you get to watch lost more U2 concerts. :-) Legolass

Tiari Clovis · 30 May 2007 · Chapter 31: In Shadow Realm: The End

The has to be your best chapter yet! I absolutely LOVE your discriptions. You really are a very good writer. The way Legolas helped Aragorn was great and very original{at least I've never seen that idea before.} I writing is just incredible. This chapter had my heart thumping. {Sighs in happiness. Well this is what I noticed Pippin sat up in alert and frowned Sat up in alert just doesn’t sound right to me. Perhaps sat up in alertness instead. ~~~ “Baw!” Legolas cried defiantly to the Shadows that tried to wrench him from his friend. “Begone, I will not be taken from him!”Fighting the darkness, he spoke firmly to Aragorn. “Listen to me, Estel,” he said. “Your memories are not lost. Lo, they are here – all around you. Listen to them, Estel!” You just need to put a space just before the word fighting ~~~ Quickly, Legolas drew apart from Aragorn to face him, and what greeted him was a vision more welcome that- {I think you want than instead of that?} light in this dark realm: the familiar features of the King – the features Legolas had been afraid he might never see again – were taking more visible form. OH before I forget: Are you planning another story after this one? Please say yes. Also I will get around to review Lord of the white tree. Talk to you later, Tiari

Author's reply

Hi Tiari, I was so tired and pressed for time when writing and posting this last chapter that I knew there would be typos here and there. :-) Pippin was supposed to have sat up in ALARM, and yes the vision of Aragorn's features were more welcome than light. :-D Thank you for catching those. As for the missing space, however, it's the fault of the site. All the spaces are there in my word document but when I paste it here and post it, some spaces go missing (I am sure what you caught was not the only one) - but I was too tired to keep fixing and resubmitting - such a bother. But I will fix the typos though. I'd love to write a new story after this one, but there is still one more chapter to go here and it's hard to get THAT finished, let alone write a new tale! You can rest assured though, that our beloved Elf and Ranger are NEVER far from my mind, and if I can write a new story, I will. Thank you for your compliments! See you in the next chapter - and I look forward to your reviews for "For the Love..." (Email review alerts for this site are not working at the moment, but I hope it will be fixed soon.) Legolass

Red Squirrel · 11 May 2007 · Chapter 31: In Shadow Realm: The End

I'm terribly sorry, I just realized you missed my regular if erratic review - how sweet of you! I actually wrote you a private mail, most probably it got lost in your spam, but I will try again. In the meantime, hugs and big thanks for the brilliant chapter! Your rodent

Red Squirrel · 10 May 2007 · Chapter 31: In Shadow Realm: The End

I knew it! I knew there would be an update while I was away! But probably its a very good thing that I had the next chapter already there for me to read, after that fearful ending of the last one. I don’t think I could have lived through the wait for this – you’ve kept me glued to the screen (almost like Legolas did to Aragorn), and I’m still trembling. You did it so wonderfully well, I felt the power of the shadows and the curse as opposed to light and life so intensely all the way. I loved the idea of the sound of life, slowly evolving into the voices of Aragorn’s memories – what a beautiful conception! And the tantalizing glimpses of those memories, each a great story in itself, how I would have liked to be able to examine them all. It reminded me a bit of the Orpheus myth, he who tried to reclaim his bride from Hades but failed, because he could not bear not to look back and see if she really followed him – well I’m glad Legolas succeeded!! And now that you have me reduced to a pair of big wet eyes, a snotty nose and bits of spiky, half-torn-out fur, I need a big cup of steaming hot tea – and a final chapter to sort out all those emotions…

Author's reply

My dear, dear bushy-tailed, bright-eyed, MUCH MISSED Rodent!!! It is SO good to hear from you again. I HAD wondered where you'd been traipsing and which part of present-day Middle-earth you were perhaps lost in. :-) (But I finally got your email and now I know that you were digging up interesting stuff - I'd love to know what you actually found!) I will reply to your email as soon as I can, but it's 1 am here and I ought to to be in bed, so I'll just take this chance to say thank you for the review. I'm delighted you found the chapters and that they still make your fur bristle. :-) Ah, now you make me want to read up on Orpheus... but instead of big, wet eyes like yours, mine are drooping with sleepiness - so it will have to wait. zzzzzzzzzz Till I write you via email - here's a big HUG. Hope you'll be sticking around a bit after this. HUGS Legolass
