Ah! I'm sad its over. I like Fastred and Bandy. But I suppose after the bad guys were 'taken care of' and peace restored, then there were only a couple of details left to wrap up. So, Farewell Fastred, Prince. Hello various plot spawn: Himb. & And. , The Black Knight grows up and wins his spurs. This was lovely. Thank you for sharing your gift!

Elenora · 9 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

Wonderful story!! Excellent writing, as always! I must admit to conflicting feelings, seeing this story end. On the one hand, I long for the resolution to all the various threads you've woven throughout the story, yet I hate to see the story end, since I have had such pleasure in reading it! I wouldn't be surprised if you encounter similar conflicting feelings. This story, as have your previous ones, has had such scrumptious little morsels strewn throughout - little word pictures that have been utterly delightful! Of course, almost all the various descriptions surrounding the elves, Legolas in particular, are wonderful to read. But I've particularly loved the "glimmery, glittering, ethereal atmosphere you almost continually have playing about Legolas, bringing this to our attention by mention of his shimmering hair, or glittering eyes, etc. Just a brief word here or there, but enough to forever remind us that he is different, special...wonderful! And I really thought it most appealing that you brought this whole story back around to end with Legolas assuming again his role as midwife, LOL! The whole picture of this being, who not only is a fighter and a warrior, but a prince, to boot, besides being an ethereal elf, yet who is able to assume the role of midwife and assist in bringing little ones into the world.....well, it is one of the more intriguing and beguiling pictures of Legolas that I've run across in fanfiction! GAH!! And you about had me off my chair and on the floor with this line from Legolas: “This one was not quite tiny enough,” said Legolas dryly from his perch by the window; he had a glass of wine in one hand, and a pastry in the other; he stretched his long legs out on the window-seat, and his hair gleamed like a sheet of ice with the pale yellow light behind it. “Should Éomer decide to put his lady wife through this a second time I shall ask him to adjust the size a bit.” Oh my gosh, that was perfect!! I loved the dry little bits of humor you had Legolas spouting all through this story - it seems like the like of humor one would hear from a being such as he. I think you've captured him perfectly. So now that I've flattered you so profusely, dare I inquire if we can expect another "Green Knight" story sometime...?? It would be such a shame to see the Green Knight put to bed (well, in one way yes, but in another way.........!!!), and to not have more stories coming from that creative mind of your. I know, easily said from one not doing the writing! Well, I'll simply leave it that your work is always a pleasure to read, and I haven't stopped recommending your stories to others. I'd love to see more!

Fastred is a very good kid! It's a huge statement for the heir presumptive to introduce the heir apparent to his people and accept his greater claim to the throne. I wonder if he will still have to spend most of his time in Rohan for a while - until everyone is convinced that the big baby will grow up into a healthy man. Or whether, now that Lothiriel has borne this one, that she will now go on to have several more little Rohirrim - as mothers often seem to after having great difficulty producing their first. Good story - I've thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to more instalments in the tales of the Green Knight.

Author's reply

Thank you! I've enjoyed writing Fastred and watching him grow up a little. As far as his willingly displacing himself for little Elfwine, well ... I would have expected little else out of Faramir's son!

*peeks out from under a desk at school* Le Rouret, I belong to that group of readers who read and love a story dearly -- and never review...or fail to review consistently. I LOVE the world you have created in all your Green Knight stories! I have read and reread and reread and found them more appealing with each reading! This story was wonderful, especially seen through Fastred's eyes as he goes through the long and grueling process of growing up and into his inheritance. (And I love Lord Lassah!) So I am very sorry the story has reached an end - although I am glad those idiotic creeps, Breawine and Thealof, got what was coming to them! I sincerely hope you will continue with another look at the world of the Green Knight...Fastred and Tamin...Lassah, that intrepid matchmaker...Bandobras and Gimli...and of course, Himbalath and Andunie...so many of those loose ends *g* that need to be tied up! :-) And did I mention I love Lord Lassah? So here's to you *toasts the author* for a wonderful conclusion to a wonderful story, with the hope that there will be more to come! Linda

Author's reply

Thank you, Linda, for crawling out from underneath your desk just to review my fic! I'm glad you liked them - they're fun to write (though awfully time-consuming), and I get to indulge myself in the what-would-have-happened-if universe of my own making.

Raksha The Demon · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

A fitting end to this handsome epic pageant. Fastred has truly matured, from a boy playing at war to a young warrior and future statesman. And now he can go home, with Lothiriel and Eomer's happiness assured with the birth of their long-for child.

Author's reply

Thank you for your review! Yes, Fastred was a bit of a wart at the beginning, but he turned out rather well, didn't he?

Dreamflower · 3 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

What a lovely and appropriate ending! I, too, am very proud of Fastred, and of all he's accomplished in his brief time as Heir! I do so hope this is not *truly* the end, and that you may be persuaded to take up the tale once more when they return to Ithilien--and we may see Bandobras reunited with his mother, and learn how Tamin becomes an esquire, and perhaps you may be persuaded to let Bandy have a visit with his own, long-missed kin, his uncle and cousin and their wives... And most especially I would like to see the outcome of Legolas' campaign on to win Andunie's heart for Himbalath!

Kat · 2 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

Perfect ending!!! I loved this story, thank you for sharing it with us. I look forward to reading more of your stories in the LOTR universe :)

Author's reply

I'm so glad you liked it! I'm feeling both relieved and disappointed it's over ... It's a fine line, knowing when to stop, and when you've said too much. But I suppose I left enough loose threads that they might unravel and return to Plot Bunny State eventually.

Alison H · 2 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

Le Rouret, that was a wonderful end to this story. The Queen of the Mark has a son at last! The remarks Legolas made about Elfwine's brute size, Lothiriel having small hips...and Eomer adjusting the size of his next child just had me laughing out loud.Legolas was a bit mean to prolong the suspense in announcing that Lothiriel had safely delivered a son, but it was fun to read! I hope that we will have more of Fastred's adventures in the future, Le Rouret. He is such a sweet child and he now has many friends....and I want to know how Andunie and Himbalath fare. Please write another story soon! Take care and have a wonderful 2007. Ali.

Author's reply

Thank you, Ali! I was wondering if anyone would ask about Himbalath and Andunie ...

nightwatch · 2 January 2007 · Chapter 31: The Heir of Meduseld

My parrot, who knows me well over these past 20 years, has been chanting steadily "Thank you!" as I have been reading this final chapter, and I echo that wholeheartedly! What a wonderful and unlooked-for conclusion to this story. Faramir is going to receive back to Osgiliath an heir of his own well trained in ways that very few ever manage. And to receive all of these changes with such grace after spending so long and so much of his strength, heart and innocence in learning to love his new home shows what a generous heart he has and what a truly good man he is. "Oh, it's a hobbit," said Merlin as I write this. Bandobras is one of the finest original characters created in the LOTR world of fanfic, and he will be missed, as will our adventures with Legolas, Fastred and company. I shall imagine all living happily ever after, even Himbalath and Andunie. Again, thank you for the time and effort put into sharing this tale with us, the cleverness of the characterizations and the intricacies of plotting. It has been a wonderful visit into this world you have created. Skye and Merlin, who says again "Thank you!"

Author's reply

Thank you Skye, and Merlin wanna cracker? I had actually contemplated having Andunie reject Himbalath completely, and ending the story with him wandering off alone to fade in his misery somewhere between Lorien and Mirkwood ... but I just couldn't do it to the poor guy. Bandobras is probably the most enjoyable OC I've created, and if I find time (and plot bunnies) in the future I might just spin a fic about him! Thanks for reading!

Bodkin · 28 December 2006 · Chapter 30: The Heir Returns

Prophetic dream! Although dreaming yourself in old age when you haven't even reached your full growth must be a bit uncomfortable. And baths are definitely a good idea. And clean clothing. While Legolas is back to match-making. Well ... he probably needs more practice with his midwifery skills. In preparation for the above dream. I'm glad Fastred seems to be settling down and maturing nicely - but I think Faramir seems rather sad to be handing his firstborn over to the needs of Rohan.

Alison H · 27 December 2006 · Chapter 30: The Heir Returns

Ahh, it was lovely to see everybody returning home, joyous to be alive.I just love the characters you have created and they make Legolas' world so rich and exhuberent.I had to laugh at Legolas' attempts at match-making---again.He won't give up, will he? Legolas is so sweet. I hope there are a few more chapters left in this story, Le Rouret, as I've enjoyed reading this tale very much.I do hope that you have other stories planned for the future.I must say that your writing style is one of the reasons why I love your stories so much. It's unique and so pleasurable to read. Take care and have a wonderful and creative 2007! Ali.

nightwatch · 26 December 2006 · Chapter 30: The Heir Returns

Ah, now this is a Christmas gift unlooked for. It's a lovely chapter, full of wonderful description and happiness. It's good to see all going home in peace and plenty, but I find myself saddened to see such a wonderful tale drawing to a close. Will you give us the gift of hope of more tales of the Green Knight and his world? Thank you for all the months of pleasure this tale has brought me. You've crafted such a wonderful world I want to curl up in it and stay there, but I I can't quite figure out how to accomplish that I shall have to make time to visit again, and often :) Blessings of the holidays to you, Skye

Elenora · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 29: The Skinned Snake

Well, I've had a marathon session and read three chapters in a row! So you are overdue for a review! All excellent, as always, but I really loved the last chapter in particular. The greeting and exhultation for Legolas by his elven subjects was wonderful - I loved that part where they pulled him off his horse mid-sentence and passed him around!!! That was a delightful picture. But I truly loved the way you ended the chapter - that really was very, very cleverly done! And it made the resolution seem particularly fitting. I was really impressed by that ending! I did say a couple of "ouches" at Legolas's handling of Andunie...while I could see what was being accomplished by forcing her to turn her "attentions" (what little there are of them!) in another direction, yet I admit to feeling a twinge of sadness at Legolas's claim to having no interest in having a relationship with a female elf. That seems rather sad - and disheartening. But, I suppose, true to canon! Still, from the whole way he manipulated his huntsmistress to "take another look" at Himbalath, I'm assuming from that that Legolas realized she had "strong feelings" for her Lord. Am I correct in that assumption? Anyway, thank you so much for the wonderful read - and for the obvious care and effort you put into cranking out such a well-written, well-thought out story. Your efforts show in the quality of the work. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's reply

Wow; three at once? I'm impressed! I'm pleased you're liking it - been a long road, and a rocky one, but now that I'm on the downward slope I'm finding it hard to finish it. And yes, Legolas was a tad harsh on Andunie; but then again, he is his father's son, and when he wants something done he's more determined than tactful (as you will see by the end of the next chapter). And again, yes, Andunie had rather lofty ambitions - if you re-read Ch. 22, you will see that when she thinks Legolas can't hear her she refers to him as "a'maelamin" - my beloved - yet when he wakes she calls him "heruamin," my lord. It is a sad fact that this particular universe was a little more in tune with social standing than ours; we wouldn't see it amiss if a lowly huntsmistress had a "thing" for the lord of the demesne; but really, Himbalath is more her speed. Thanks for reviewing, and enjoy! Le Rouret

Camp6311 · 11 December 2006 · Chapter 29: The Skinned Snake

Welcome back, you were missed. Were you successful in completing your novel-in-a-month? Thanks for averting our eyes at the end, I'm with Fastred, I really didn't want to watch either. And now Himbalath has new hope, any chance his lady will completely thaw out in the next couple of centuries?

Author's reply

Thanks! Well, NaNo was a "success" in that I hit the 50K mark, but my novel is by no means finished - I estimate it will take at least another 100K to truly "finish." So, when TGK&HOM is finished, I'll tackle it once more. I didn't particularly want to show the readers what a beheading looked like - I'm no David Eddings, after all, to go wallowing in gore! And as to whether or not Andunie will "thaw out" - well, the jury's out on that one, sadly.

SoaringEagle · 10 December 2006 · Chapter 29: The Skinned Snake

Another great chapter! I was so pleased when I saw the update. Fastred is becoming a true prince, it is wonderful to see the character development which you write so well.

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm glad you like how he's turning out - not much like the little self-indulgent, whiny 12-year-old of Osgiliath, is he?

Bodkin · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 29: The Skinned Snake

That's a bit of a silly law! Not being able to dispose of treacherous kin can't be a good way of ensuring political stability. Although it's probably a great relief to the kin of ruthless kings. Very clever of Fastred to give that particular tor into Legolas's hold. One less problem for them all to face! And Andunie chose Himbaláth - which is probably a good thing.

Author's reply

Strangely enough, there were loads of countries with laws like that, which is why mercenaries were so popular! And yes, Fastred's rather clever - he played well with the law, and with Legolas' own ruthlessness, to protect his country. I know it sounds like an odd thing for the author to say, but I'm rather pleased with how he turned out (by which you may infer he didn't turn out the way I expected when I started the fic). I'm glad you think Andunie's choosing Himbalath was a good thing - I got a few emails from friends, accusing me of "pawning her off"!!!!

Bodkin · 23 October 2006 · Chapter 28: Crows' Feast

Ouch. That was a bit cruel towards Andunie - but I suppose Legolas doesn't want to be on the receiving end of her unrequited regard. Although attempting to manage her affairs seems more than a little heartless. Still - at least the battle seems to be going well. Now they've just got to get Théalof.

Faramir of Gondor · 22 October 2006 · Chapter 28: Crows' Feast

I LOVE IT!!! Did Faramir and Eowyn really have kids??

nightwatch · 20 October 2006 · Chapter 28: Crows' Feast

Oh, now this was a treat that I badly needed this most horrible of weeks! Must tell you how much I love your characterization of Legolas in this and indeed the individual personalities of all the elves, who also remain elves, distinct from the ways of men. Just wonderful! Welcome to Hammer! Thank you also for including all of the horses, with their appearances and tempers of their own. Somehow I think Hammer is going to be a force of his own to be reckoned with, even though he has only just met his rider. Rah for fierce black horses! (Had one of those, love of my life he was.) And how very much I loved the line about Legolas putting his foot down and something irrevocably squashed. For some reason this amuses me even as it illustrates the power that lurks behind Legolas' usually genial interaction with folks. To quote another fun Immortal "just because I don't fight doesn't mean I can't." SOmehow, in spite of the pain of the moment (and couldn't he have found a better moment to step on Andunie that just before battle?) I suspect this will have a happy ending. In fact, Happy Endings all around! (except maybe Thealof, who looks to be having a most horrible week of his own). I look forward to more of this wonderful story, whenever it should show up in my mailbox. But thank you for this chapter. It really has been a most horrible week, and I really needed this smile :)

Dreamflower · 19 October 2006 · Chapter 28: Crows' Feast

What a battle! You really have a knack for describing a battle that allows the reader to follow the action without becoming confused, while still conveying the chaos and confusion the characters are experiencing. I loved the banter, as always, with Gimli and Bandy, and the little subplot of Andunie and Himbalath is cute. Legolas the matchmaker. He'll be getting a reputation for that as well as for midwifery! LOL! I can't say I was surprised at Thealof's treachery. But it's a shame that Eomer did not get his own chance at Breawine. Excellent and exciting chapter! Good luck with nanowrimo!

SoaringEagle · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 27: The Crows Gather

I have been working my way through this fic on a mammoth read, and have loved every minute of it. I love your style of writing, and the green knight series has to be my favourite series I've read to date. Please update! Soaring Eagle

Bodkin · 7 October 2006 · Chapter 27: The Crows Gather

I'm glad Legolas and the rest have made it back to join Eomer - and that Fastred has proved himself to his uncle. Everybody seems a lot more light-hearted. At the moment, anyway.

Camp6311 · 6 October 2006 · Chapter 27: The Crows Gather

Three cheers for quick updates! I look forward to each update to this terrific tale and will be sad when it is complete. Poor Himbalath! He must have felt guilty enough over his lord's "death" without Meivel heaping coals on his head, and I can only imagine what Andunie's brother might have said to hurt him so.

Dreamflower · 5 October 2006 · Chapter 27: The Crows Gather

Oh my! I am thoroughly intrigued by the little spat between Elves--and as mystified as Eomer! I do hope you will explicate it to us in the near future--I could guess at some of it, but not all. And the reunion!! What a delight! Just as marvelous as I had imagined it would be, to see the party from Edoras reunited with all of the others. What fun! It's a good thing I had finished my juice before I came to this bit (it wouldn't do to splork all over my husband's laptop!) The boy tugged on Fastred’s tunic and said in a clear voice: “Uncle, Fastred?” “Yes,” said Fastred, and gestured to Éomer with his chin. “My uncle. Éomer.” “Your uncle.” The boy blinked his big gray eyes up at Éomer and then said solemnly: “Uncle is like your horse, very big.” *oh golly*that was so cute and funny!* And then the Elves seeing Legolas! I could just imagine them passing him around in their joy, like the hero of a winning football team! And poor Bandy, trying to calm them down, LOL! And it was so funny to have Cieran trying to tell his story without interruption! You really pulled out all the stops with this chapter! You will have to go some to top this! But I certainly look forward to seeing you try!

Dreamflower · 5 October 2006 · Chapter 26: Hope and Diplomacy

I love this chapter! Fastred is so cute in it--he's all grown-up and full of diplomacy one moment, and then fighting down jealousy of his friend the next! And the ending--he's in a hurry to get back to a comfortable bed and pastries--clearly over the years, Bandobras has had a very hobbity influence on the boy! Your archaic language continues to delight me--I actually saw a new word: "dwine"--I believe I could tell the meaning from context, but it's a new one to me, and absolutely delightful. I hope I may pin down the meaning exactly so that I can use it myself! I am glad to see the pace is picking up--soon all the forces of the Good Guys will be re-united! Won't some folks be glad to see Legolas again? Well, on to the next chapter...
