This story made me chuckle. Aragorn ought to have known better. I wonder if the children would have asked their mother in she or their uncles made shoes?

Author's reply

Well, any mirth is good mirth, I say! Yes, Aragorn should have known better. I imagine that if the kids ask Arwen if she and the twins make shoes, Aragorn will find himself sleeping in the throne room. I so like the way you think, Haleth. ;-D Thanks for the review! ~TF

Oh Tithen, What a great story. It's was hard to tell after a while, who were the bigger children, Aragorn & Legolas or Eldarion & his sister LoL. I guess boys will be boys. BTW, I chuckled a lot. Write again, your fan Eliza

Author's reply

Oh yes, they must have had a few disagreements as all friends do. It was fun writing something silly. I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for reviewing! ~TF

I LOVE IT!!! Cute, cute....love how Lego so neatly turns the tables....*giggle* Someone else may have mentioned this already, but I believe "THe Emperor's New Clothes" is by Hans Christian Andersen............ ~~~{~@

Author's reply

Doh! Really? I did a lot of skimming through archives of fairy tales hoping to find one that would fit Arwen's message, and I thought I'd seen the Emperor story listed with Grimm. I must have imagined it. That story is one of my favs, but obviously I'm no expert on fairy tales. Anyway, I'm so happy you liked my dittie! Thanks for the review! ~TF

Well I did chuckle somewhat so there you are - the story is good! Mind you I think A/L should conspire to tell a silly woman story to discomfort Arwen in revenge, she is a little smug, ha? Rose

Author's reply

Aha, you picked up on that! Yeah, everyone in this tale is being a little bit off, though I rather enjoyed Arwen playing the mom to A/L's naughty boys. I looked all over for a real fairy tale that made her point. It may be out there but I didn't find it. Hence the all-too-obvious fable. Thanks for reviewing, Rose! ~TF

I wonder where Aragorn got hold of stories about tiny naked elves with poor manners (- and why he didn't have enough sense to change the vital word to imps or pixies). I think the telling of the King's New Clothes will be a justifiable revenge. This is such a clever and enjoyable story. I should think Arwen must have her work cut out between these two! Let's see - what other stories could be told to enrage elements of Middle Earth society . . . Goldilocks and the Beornings . . . The Elf Princess and the Seven Dwarves . . . Samwise and the Beanstalk . . . the possibilities are endless!

Author's reply

Thanks, Bodlin! Yes, Aragorn was so politically incorrect and Legolas was being a bit of a diva. Poor Arwen. I love your Middle Earth fairy tale ideas! ~TF Author Reply: Thanks, Bodkin! Hee! Yes, and as I recall Tolkien himself was constantly fighting the misconceptions of folks who only knew Elves from the faery stories. Sigh. And even in more modern fantasies they are wicked more often than they are good. I'll stick to Middle-earth, thank you. I did love your description of Legolas here -- "made Thranduil at his most threatening seem like vision of bland sweetness." Ha! And at the end, his eyes "stilling... to pools of starlight" is beautiful. Very nicely done.

Author's reply

I also much prefer Tolkien's elves to the storybook kind, but it was fun to trot them out for the purpose of getting Legolas' goat. *chuckle* The prince was not amused. I just loved making him out-glare Thranduil! Thanks for the review! ~TF

What a great story, this made me laugh. brave must be Aragorn to be telling tales of small elves dancing nude. Arwin the voice of reason between two friends. Legolas's idea to tell the children about a king and some not so visable cloths.

Author's reply

Even the best of friends ocasionally have difficulties, don't they? It was fun stirring things up with these three, and I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for reviewing! ~TF

French Pony · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 0

That was pretty funny. Aragorn has a lot of gall to tell a story like that to the children of an Elven Queen in the presence of another Elf. He deserved a light drubbing for that one, plus a story in retaliation. I love it that both of the boys had to contemplate seriously Arwen's transparent little parable. Not too quick on the uptake, are they?

Author's reply

Well, Aragorn was definitely not very swift to have told the story in the first place, and he never really seemed to get why Legolas didn't like it. But they both failed to soak up Arwen's point. It's a guy thing. Thanks for reviewing! ~TF

I enjoyed this and loved Arwen's common sense."The Emperor's new Clothes" starring Aragorn would be well wporth reading. You did make me smile !

Author's reply

Thanks for the review, Linda! I'm glad you liked Arwen's attempt to lend her common sense to the guys. ~TF

Indigo Bunting · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 0

Bravo! This was a neat little story. I especially liked Legolas' line about "rodent-sized eledh who creep into the houses of men by night and make merry in the nude". That made me laugh out loud. And his riposte at the end was very clever. Good story!

Author's reply

Thanks, Indgo Bunting! One of the fun challenges of writing this thing was to turn the dialogue so that it implied what tale was being discussed rather than saying it outright. I'm so happy it made you laugh! ~TF

I wanna hear Legolas's story. With illustrations. Movieverse illustrations. Naked Aragorn. Yummy. This was a cute idea and probably not all that AU. I liked hearing Arwen talk some sense into the guys. Friendships have foundered for lesser reasons.

Author's reply

Mmmm, yes that would be fun. I'm glad you liked the story idea. I had fun letting Arwen intimidate the guys a bit. ~TF Author Reply: Hmmm, yeah, I enthusiastically second your "yummy". I'm glad you liked the story idea. It was fun letting Arwen push the guys around a bit. Thanks for the review! ~TF

Larner · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 0

The Brothers Grimm did NOT write their tales--they were collecting them for a study in ethnology, and then published particular versions of each they best liked. So, they are probably VERY old indeed, and forms of them could indeed have been told then. That's okay--I put "The Farmer in the Dell" into a book of tales for children Frodo copied out for Merry and that he illustrated in The King's Commission.

Author's reply

Ah, I stand corrected...or vindicated...maybe a bit of both! Thanks, Larner! ~TF

I chuckled a lot TF it was VERY good! I have often felt that the elves (or worse the elfs,) were very short changed in our fables, tales and nursery stories.

Author's reply

Hee-hee! Glad you liked it! Thanks for reviewing! ~TF
