· Chapter 10: A Premature Celebration
Unfortunately, I can see this having happened too often. And, yes, very premature.
Author's reply
I am sure it *did* happen all over the Shire--the Ruffians were hardly a patient lot, and I figure they did a lot of premature gloating!!

· Chapter 9: The Courtship of Merry and Estella
Tell me that story, do,
And we shall make it true!
Wonderful, Dreamflower!
Of course, she does not want to know of foreign countries or bold warriors, but of true love and not just some story, but the story of Merry and Estella, that is written by the both of them!
Your poem reminds me of the romantic poems we analysed at school, like poems by Eichendorff, Brentano or Novalis! Maybe you have heard of those German poets. After the analysis the poems seemed to have lost their "magic". It was a pity!
Fortunately, after finishing school, I never had to do that again. Instead I just admire a good poem :)
Author's reply
Of course!
I haven't heard of those poets individually, though I have heard of the Romantic movement in poetry, that swept Europe at the same time. I know what you mean about analysing poems. It's possible to overthink them, and lose the joy of them!
I'm glad that you liked it!

· Chapter 9: The Courtship of Merry and Estella
We don't want to hear of battles and losses and victories--we wish to hear of promise and US! Such is love full oft....
Author's reply
*grin* Yes, and Pippin knows that's how Merry won Estella's heart: he told her the stories of many of the couples he'd met, such as Arwen and Aragorn, Faramir and Eowyn...
Nothing like a good romantic story for putting a lass in a receptive mood!

· Chapter 8: Kindling Courage (the Finding Courage Remix)
Dana's drabble is so powerful, and I love the way you've reconstructed it, this time looking through Gandalf's eyes. I'm especially glad that you included the stars, such an important image in the original drabble.
Author's reply
I just now realized I'd never answered this comment!!
Dana's drabble was amazing, and I was so glad for the chance to try and mirror it from another POV. I wanted to include as much of the original imagery as possible; I'm glad you think I succeeded.

· Chapter 4: For Arda
*This* is absolutely awesome! I want to say it is the best poem I've ever read, but I know you won't believe me (maybe I'm just not very well read, eh?) But surely this captures the essence of why we love Middle Earth and what we find there? It took Tolkien 1200 pages to show us this world, but you've captured it right here in a mere handful. Awesome genius! (And yes, I know where some of the words come from, but that is what makes it even better...)
Author's reply
*blushes* Thank you. I'm sure there are many better poems, but this one says what I'd like it to say: my profound thanks for Middle-earth and all that it has meant for my life over the years.
And I would never have been able to write it without those 1200 pages first...
Thank you again for your very kind words.

· Chapter 8: Kindling Courage (the Finding Courage Remix)
The original was wonderful, and this as excellent. That Gandalf's own power was added to Pippin to kindle his heart for the leap was such a marvelous reference to the power of Narya and the reason for which it was entrusted to Gandalf by Cirdan.
Author's reply
I just loved the color and imagery in the original! It's why it inspired me--I do hope you let Dana know you liked it!
I would love to see more fic exploring how and why Gandalf might have used Narya--I think in hind-sight there are lots of hints in canon where it seems rather obvious.

· Chapter 8: Kindling Courage (the Finding Courage Remix)
One ring is useful for something I see! I always enjoy the relationship between these two. And Iliked the original too by the way!
Author's reply
I love the grandfatherly relationship Gandalf displays towards Pippin, myself! And I've always thought that Narya is underutilized in fic--it seems to me that there are several places in LotR, where looking back in hindsight, it appears obvious that Gandalf was making use of its power to kindle hearts. And I love that idea--not that he's casting a spell on someone to make them artificially brave, but that he's lighting the spark of the courage they already hold buried inside them.
I loved the original fic--Dana has such a way with imagery, I wanted to try and match that if I could, from the other POV!
(And I hope that you let Dana know you liked it!)

· Chapter 8: Kindling Courage (the Finding Courage Remix)
Wow...that was a beautiful passage. The Professor makes one quick comment about that scene in the books, yet so much of Pippin's courage is shown in this one feat. Hooray for Pippin!
Author's reply
It is. I've read several fine fics about this moment from different people--Baylor's chapter about it in "Care and Feeding" stands out as most excellent, and several other good writers have done it as well. But I so loved the color and light imagery in Dana's drabble, and wanted to see if I could echo it.
And hooray for Pippin, who would not even let seven foot abysses keep him from Frodo's side!

Both the original and the remix are simply excellent! I love how you managed to switch from the apprehensive Pippin's point of view to that of the leader Gandalf! His encouragement certainly helped, did it not? =)
Author's reply
I hope you let Dana know you loved hers, as well!
I truly loved the original drabble so much, that it was hard to think how to remix it--another POV seemed called for, and Gandalf's seemed perfect for that moment!

Bravo to all of you! I love the songs and Lindelea has out-done herself yet again! She seems to be making my holiday very merry this year. Thank you for posting these. You really should find a way to cut a CD of Hobbit tunes. You have such a way with lyrics.

Very nice, Dreamflower!
I think I've heard a song like that before, a folk song. But if it was English or German or French ... I can't remember.
This is definitely a song of Buckland, like Larner pointed out. And if you replaced the violets with primulas, it could have also been the favourite song of Drogo Baggins :)
Author's reply
Thank you.
It wouldn't surprise me; it's not consciously modeled after any particular folk-song, but I did try and follow the general pattern of many of them.
It might could have, at that, LOL!

How sweet! And so hobbity! I could picture Berilac and Violet during that song - even though they didn't meet that way, it's still perfect for them. :)

Ah, how beautiful! I can just see a Hobbit singing this, rowing down the river. Most of all I love that it's so happy. I practically collect folk songs, mostly from Scotland, England, and Ireland, and always the love songs start out happy and end sad. Why can't we be more like Hobbits? :)
God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
Why can't we be more like Hobbits? :)
Excellent question, my dear! I do think the world would be a better place if we *were* more like Hobbits!
(And you are right about the majority of folk-songs--either sad or creepy, for the most part, even when they have a jolly sort of tune!)

Ah, I can never resist a limerick! These are great fun, Dreamflower…my favorites are the two S-B verses, and Gandalf’s. I once wrote a Gandalf-on-the-bridge limerick too:
THE TOLL BRIDGE
Nine Walkers, while out on a stroll
Met a balrog, some orcs and a troll
When Gandalf went down
Strider said with a frown
"Who knew the dwarves’ bridge was a toll?”
So there’s an online rhyming dictionary? (I’m a nosy review-reader too!) What’s its URL, pray tell?

LOL! That's great! I love it!

Cute! I liked the last line of the Strider's. It reminded me of a line from Buffy: I laugh in the face of danger... then I hide until it goes away. :) Strider would never hide of course. He meets it head on every time. Merry's and Pip's was cute too. Now see, if they were like Sam, they would have had a needle and thread on hand to fix their breeches. :D
Author's reply
*grin* Strider and Buffy, huh? Actually, I think I came across a LotR/Buffy crossover once. Strange, to say the least!
LOL! You're right--Sam carries everything except the kitchen sink--and rope.

Very cleverly done! Gave me a good giggle too - how do you think of them?
Author's reply
Well, the first line just comes to me, but then I pull up the on-line rhyming dictionary and go from there. The only two I didn't have to do that for were Lobelia's and Strider's, which just came to me.
