Antane · 4 March 2011 · Chapter 39: First Breakfast
Another sweet story, a loving gift Pippin has given to his brother-cousin! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Thanks! I'm very fond of these cozy little domestic scenes...

Virtuella · 3 March 2011 · Chapter 34: Visiting Bag End
//Mama told him those stories, but when she told them they sounded like stories. When Gaffer Sam told them, they sounded just like things that happened. // Ah, a very astute child!
Author's reply
He is quite astute! But listening to stories told by those who were there, and those told by those who've just heard about it is quite a different experience!
Virtuella · 3 March 2011 · Chapter 36: Worth It All
The down on a hobbit baby's feet - now that's an image to remember!
Author's reply
I think that would be one of the cutest things about a baby hobbit!
Virtuella · 3 March 2011 · Chapter 35: Gossip At the Ivy Bush
A gate-crasher! Quick, get the bucket of cold water!
Author's reply
Well, apparently there were lots of gate crashers, as we are told that quite a few who did not have invitations turned up anyway!
Larner · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 37: Respect
Oh, I can so see this! Perfect!
Author's reply
*nods* Yes, Frodo would be a little embarrassed at how they treated Strider at first-- but now they *are* friends!
Larner · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 36: Worth It All
I think most mothers feel the same way! At least he thrived after all, and proved far more worthy than any expected in the end!
Author's reply
Absolutely! Though I think some may have known his true potential...
Antane · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 36: Worth It All
Oh, he would thrive indeed! *hugs him* Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Yes, beyond what any would ever think!
Antane · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 37: Respect
Sweet story! I feel for Frodo's shame but the respect is well given and the assurance that the shame need not be felt is also, love that part the most and that Aragorn already considers Frodo a good friend. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Well, he was embarrassed to realize that he and the other hobbits had been "disrespectful" to the King in exile-- but of course they were not to know-- that was the whole point of the Strider persona. But Aragorn already knew Frodo's mettle. Far from being reckless, as he must have originally thought after the incident in the Prancing Pony. He's observed his determination and the way that he fought the Morgul-wound for so long, and his courage in offering to be Ringbearer.
Andrea · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 37: Respect
Oh, it's so typical of Frodo to "hide his light under a bushel"! Instead he should remember what he accomplished by bringing the Ring to Rivendell and how dangerous his journey was so far! Aragorn on the other hand already is a true friend to Frodo, and he knows about Frodo's qualities.
Author's reply
I think hobbits in general tend to humility-- the rare times they boast, it is always in jest. And Frodo as a gentlehobbit and a Baggins, would be quite humble. Yes, Aragorn is already his friend-- he pledged his fealty to Frodo the first time he met him!
Andrea · 2 March 2011 · Chapter 36: Worth It All
She looked at him and lost her heart. Awww, beautifully said! I also like what your mother said :-)
Author's reply
I am thinking that is probably something a lot of mothers say... 8-)
Antane · 1 March 2011 · Chapter 34: Visiting Bag End
I love the distinction made between Rose and Sam's telling of the great Quest. That's just how it would have been. I did a little experiment some years ago and read part of Two Towers in the first person, as Frodo would have originally written it. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Yes, Sam was there. It *would* make a difference!
Larner · 28 February 2011 · Chapter 34: Visiting Bag End
How lucky he was to be able to visit Bag End and stay for a good deal of time each visit. Love the difference between when his mother told the stories and when his grandpa did--and of course, for Sam, they were what happened! And sad there must be such gaps betwixt and between. I'd certainly love being there with Elfstan!
Author's reply
Yes, quite a difference between being there and just having heard about it! Well, the Westmarch was a goodly distance away-- much further than Buckland, for example! But, of course, it at least meant the visits were long ones!
Larner · 28 February 2011 · Chapter 35: Gossip At the Ivy Bush
Ah! Satisfying, and so true to the Shirefolk! Hope he could manage to stay over for the Party!
Author's reply
I'm sure he could find some excuse for Mr. Brownlock to delay his return to Michel Delving!
Virtuella · 17 February 2011 · Chapter 33: Upwind
Yes, indeed, that must have been a moment of some chagrin...
Author's reply
I can just imagine him rolling his eyes when he realized what they'd found!
Larner · 15 February 2011 · Chapter 33: Upwind
Aha, perfect! And so Elvish, to want to be upwind of the pipe smoke! Heh! Love this! Had me giggling all through it.
Author's reply
Thanks! I think the smokers would find Legolas' distaste for their pasttime amusing. But I can just see the rolling eyes.
Grey Wonderer · 15 February 2011 · Chapter 31: Grey Havens
Hadn't seen this one and while I was reading the others, found it. So sad and so very moving. Lovely.
Author's reply
Thank you! I always find the Grey Havens very sad and moving. It's such a profound farewell, for they know they not only will never see Frodo again, but never hear from him either. Even Sam at this point has no certainty...
Grey Wonderer · 15 February 2011 · Chapter 32: Composition
I like Bilbo's efforts at finding a rhyme. Sometimes that can be so hard to do.
Author's reply
Yes. Especially when you don't have a handy-dandy online rhyming dictionary at your fingertips! *giggle*
Grey Wonderer · 15 February 2011 · Chapter 33: Upwind
That was cute. Very like Legolas.
Author's reply
Yep. He's not going to say anything about the smoking, but he's going to get out into the fresh air ASAP, LOL!
daw the minstrel · 15 February 2011 · Chapter 33: Upwind
I am going back into the open air, to see what the wind and sky are doing! I loved that phrasing--"see what the wind and sky are doing." It's like the world is much more alive than we usually realize. Just beautiful.
Author's reply
Of course, that line's straight out of the book, but I always felt it was significant that he said it right *after* the pipe-weed showed up, LOL! I do agree, though, it seems a very Elven way of looking at "wind and sky"!
Antane · 16 January 2011 · Chapter 32: Composition
Cute! I could see this happening. :) *hugs Bilbo and you* Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Something like that did have to happen, with all the songs and poems he wrote! ((hugs back))
Virtuella · 15 January 2011 · Chapter 32: Composition
Oooh, I like this! A poem caught in the process of being written. Nice. :)
Author's reply
Yes, right as he's first thinking it through. I'm glad you liked it!
Virtuella · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 31: Grey Havens
//heart cords are stretching, breaking// That was beautifully put. Well done.
Author's reply
That's how I see the connection between the four, as the "ties that bind" between them all. I am glad you liked that phrase.
Andrea · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 31: Grey Havens
Beautifully done! And the perfect choice of the last outstanding word: homeward! That's what Frodo wanted for all three of them: to feel at home in the Shire and live a full life. And from what we know they were quite successful in doing that. As for Frodo: I believe that he found a new home, too, in the West. But the completion of his healing process could only take place after he was reunited with his three friends.
Author's reply
Thank you. I think they all would have missed one another for so long as their separation lasted. But we know that separation did eventually end.
Cairistiona · 13 January 2011 · Chapter 31: Grey Havens
Lovely and so very poignant!
Author's reply
Thank you, dear! I am so glad you enjoyed it.
Antane · 12 January 2011 · Chapter 31: Grey Havens
Captures well that terrible yet grace-filled time for Frodo is going to his reward but has to leave so many he loves behind. Le hannon, my dear! Love especially the mention of a smile. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I think the smile is important, that the others know that things are going to be better for him. It's why they are giving him up, after all.
