Larner · 14 October 2009 · Chapter 27: Getting Reacquainted

Ah, how perfect, Dreamflower--yes, perfect characterizations of our four Hobbits all from Bilbo's point of view--and from Elrond's as well. I'm glad they were there for Frodo, and for Bilbo to rely on.

Author's reply

Thank you! I think Bilbo would have been so glad to see their devotion to Frodo, and to once again know these young hobbits who had been children still, when he left the Shire! You and me both!

Andrea · 14 October 2009 · Chapter 27: Getting Reacquainted

Wonderfully done, all of them! But my favourite lines were these: Bilbo had not been surprised by Merry's presence in Rivendell. He remembered a letter in a childish scrawl. "Take good care of my Frodo, or give him back to me." Merry is great :-)

Author's reply

*grin* Well, of course, that's a reference to my story "Marching Orders" in my first Mathoms collection! Merry really is great!

Antane · 14 October 2009 · Chapter 27: Getting Reacquainted

"Your place? Your place, as ever, is at Frodo's side, Sam." No truer words! Love this ending. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I'm sure Bilbo had a unique perspective on Frodo's relationship to his companions-- he knew the strength of devotion there.

harrowcat · 14 October 2009 · Chapter 27: Getting Reacquainted

These are all brilliant Dreamflower. I loved the first two especially and the last two lines of the last one.

Author's reply

Thank you very much!

Antane · 1 October 2009 · Chapter 26: Fealty

I'm listening to the BBC Radio adaptation for I think the 25th time - I'm beginning to lose track! - and I love the care that Aragorn shows to the hobbits. I have wondered too what he thinks of doing all of this, but obviously they are dear to each other. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Yes, he clearly is already beginning to be fond of them-- even if perhaps, a bit exasperated.

Virtuella · 29 September 2009 · Chapter 26: Fealty

"What impulse moved my heart? " *waves hand frantically and clicks fingers* I know, Miss, I know! 'twas the irresistible charme of hobbits!

Author's reply

*grin* Yes, that infamous Fallohide charm...

Celeritas · 28 September 2009 · Chapter 26: Fealty

This was well done because it got me thinking about the implications of a line I'd only taken idly--which is something not to be done in Tolkien, especially when writing of a world that does not take oaths lightly! Very, very appropriate.

Author's reply

I think it was about two re-readings back that it suddenly struck me: those were not casual words, or if they were they still were *meant*, and that they were nothing less than an oath of fealty to Frodo himself. I reminded me of when Faramir lightly says he wouldn't touch Isildur's Bane whatever it was, even if it lay by the side of the road. Yet on finding out later, he still takes that casual statement as seriously as any oath sworn. And I think that here, Aragorn is the same. He didn't use the words "I swear" because he did not have to. His word *was* his oath.

Larner · 28 September 2009 · Chapter 26: Fealty

Only the greatest recognize spontaneously when it is time to swear fealty toward others, and Aragorn, after all, is among the greatest! Lovely!

Author's reply

Yes, he is. I am sure that he was moved by his great heart to see the true worth underneath Frodo's seemingly careless actions. But now he is thinking about it, and does not quite understand-- still, he is confident enough in who he is that he does not regret the decision, whether he understands or not.

Grey Wonderer · 24 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

Lovely.

Author's reply

Thank you! 8-)

Larner · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

I so love Quickbeam's thoughts and reasoning, and the quick affection he offers to Merry and Pippin! Most touching!

Author's reply

It did seem that he befriended them easily in the book-- and I thought there must be reasons for that. So glad you enjoyed it.

Antane · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

Love it. A touching, moving reflection of trusting souls, grief and tears. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you, dear!

harrowcat · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

All the rowans are sporting their bright red berries against dappling green leaves here in England at the moment. They always remind me of the Ents. This is a great characterisation Dreamflower. Loved it.

Author's reply

Oh how wonderful! I found some beautiful pictures of rowans as I was researching this story-- they truly are a beautiful tree!

Virtuella · 19 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

I always like to see an Ent story. One with an Ent from a first person perspective is a special treat, and you've done it very well. It is touching and rings very true.

Author's reply

Well, since the tree I had as an element was a rowan, this particular Ent was a natural choice. I felt quite honored when he gave me his POV in first person. I'm glad you feel it rings true.

Lindelea · 18 August 2009 · Chapter 24: Missing Her

at least they wouldn't have to wait forty years *chuckle* Rather puts things in perspective.

Author's reply

Well, I'm thinking that in those years when Pippin was waiting for his Diamond to get close enough to coming of age that they could wed, he probably reminded himself of this fact frequently. Aragorn and Arwen set the bar rather high, as far as role models go, LOL!

Lindelea · 18 August 2009 · Chapter 25: Bregalad Keeps Watch Over Merry and Pippin

So small they are, but their hearts are large. Lovely bit of description. Out on a limb Either subtle irony, or very fitting for an Ent...

Author's reply

Thank you, Lin! Hobbits are, of course, bigger on the inside than they are on the outside. I like to think other races recognized that. A little bit of both, naturally, and a way to get the theme in, as well. Good to see you, dear! I hope you are feeling much better now!

Virtuella · 18 August 2009 · Chapter 24: Missing Her

Oh, yes, I recognize that! My husband (then boy-friend)and I spent four years in different countries, before we eventually got to live together. Very true, the moment they walk out the door we miss them...

Author's reply

Indeed, it's a feeling most of us know at some point if we are ever in love.

Larner · 17 August 2009 · Chapter 24: Missing Her

Ooh! I like! Yes, no repeat of Aragorn's betrothal for these two!

Author's reply

LOL! I'm sure that it must have felt like it from time to time, but no, at least Pippin can keep reminding himself of that! His King is a very good role model for his young knight, so waiting is at least bearable.

Virtuella · 22 July 2009 · Chapter 23: Remembering Frodo's Hands

Awwww. That is really, really sweet.

Larner · 21 July 2009 · Chapter 23: Remembering Frodo's Hands

This is so very beautiful! Oh, Dreamflower--how very perfect!

Author's reply

Thank you so much, dear!

Antane · 20 July 2009 · Chapter 23: Remembering Frodo's Hands

Very nice! Love it. So many memories of one so dear, more being created all the time. Like touch of Merry and Theoden too. And of course Sam so near. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you! I could not think of another reason Merry would not be there, and of course Sam always would be.

GamgeeFest · 21 April 2009 · Chapter 22: Just Looking

How sweet! I love wee!Pippin and Frodo is so gentle with him - and thankfully forgetting to lecture him about not climbing on the furniture. ;)

Author's reply

*grin* Well, Pippin's boo-boo made him forget all about scolding, LOL! (And I'm sure that Frodo would identify with a search for stories!)

Larner · 6 April 2009 · Chapter 22: Just Looking

Ahhhhhh! So sweet!

Author's reply

Thank you, dear!

Andrea · 4 April 2009 · Chapter 22: Just Looking

Awww! That was a sweet little story! The most important part of "healing" little Pip was doubtlessly the kiss :) And which hobbit lad would not be happy again if he could listen to a Tip and Tulip story, told by a master-storyteller?

Author's reply

Doubtlessly it was. Kisses make it all better! I have a lot of fun with Tip and Tulip!

Larner · 4 April 2009 · Chapter 22: Just Looking

I so love Frodo the Storyteller! Ah, our dear Frodo in care-for-the-li'l-cousins mode! Heh!

Author's reply

LOL! Well, as you very well know, that is probably my favorite Frodo-mode!

Virtuella · 3 April 2009 · Chapter 22: Just Looking

Gah, little ones climbing bookshelves, horror of horrors! We have all ours bolted to the walls (the shelves, not the little ones...) Well, Pippin got enough stories in the end, I reckon!

Author's reply

LOL! Fortunately for wee Pippin, I envision Bilbo's bookshelves as the built-into-the-wall sort! But apparently at least one of the shelves needs to be sanded, since Pippin picked up a splinter. When I was about eight years old, my little sister tried to climb a chest-of-drawers, by using the drawers as steps. It started to topple, and fortunately I was able to catch the top of it. I could hold it up from hitting the floor but wasn't stong enough to lift it up--luckily my mother came running at our screams and was able to push it back in place. I suppose that Pippin was insatiable when it came to stories!
