Good grief!!!, What a read!!, So much steam, I need to calm down. I read this years ago and came to it again because I remember how much I enjoyed it and now I really remember how hot this romance really was. Thank you for writing. I love this Éomer and this Lothíriel. I can hardly put this story down. Darn having to make a living and be a wife and Mom. 💓

Éomer is worried about Rohirric bastards running around Minas Tirith without protection. The only way to help them in Anglo Saxon times was to sire them; they could live in the household and have the Lord´s protection, but not heir rights. Elfhelm´s wife is right when she later tells Lothíriel her future husband is quite unique. Of course, Éomer has illegitimate offspring, and quite a few I presume. But he is a man of honour and has done something other warriors and Lords would consider a bit strange. As Imrahil said, Éomer has his own strict code of honour. In Unexpected, I think his first illegitimate is introduced in a very specific way. I think he has just arrived, 12 years old, his training has started. His Westron a bit poor. (Éomer was only 16, hormones and all that. Elfhelm witness, Maddy told us herself. It must have been some warrior ritual celebration or his initiation into the world of men). I still believe that in his Boast ritual, he will make a vow: He will kill as many orcs as he can, etc but to truly honour his parents he will only marry for love("in this world and beyond"). These children are for Éomer "consequences", he doesn´t consider them his children (not perception we have nowadays) but he will make sure they are taken care of. The children he will have with his ladylove are "gifts". Funny number, eight, it reminds me of eight gift horses in Beowulf. They are pure Rohirric Power, people proud and tense around them at the same time, even when they are kids. Illegitimate will have no chance. Maddy´s Lothíriel is unique and different, but her Éomer also. He doesn´t care what others say, he does what he feels is right. He will marry a healer, something unthinkable of (Elfhelm doesn´t allow Merewyn in the room as Lothíriel is operating on...). Elfhelm happy, but others... He will marry a princess from Gondor. Some Lords miffed. There will be some tension at first. Éomer will dismiss Éofor and have a word with his men after leaving her. She is His. Interesting the Tafl game Éofor will "play". Hammer and anvil.

Couldn't stop laughing at her reaction to her first French kiss and how she thanked him for the experience! Poor Eomer's got himself a handful and I would imagine he has very big hands. Their dialogue here is so priceless! Elfhelm's advice was not bad either--in fact it's like the cherry on the cream.

whitewave · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

It's nice to see Eomer's fumbling on his way to true love. Loved his little oration here though, he could be quite the orator. Loved how Elfhelm would add "king" almost as an afterthought whenever he had to talk to Eomer after he has said or done something not so kingly. I almost swooned with how you ended this chapter.

whitewave · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

“Thank you, nephew,” Imrahil said prosaically. “This is the first time ever I have been compared to a rodent.” Loved that line! Imrahil is so suave as to be so dangerous. You could draw really vivid pictures with the figures of speech that you use.

whitewave · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Just adored the scene when she walked in on him half-naked. I had a very clear idea of what his facial expression must have looked like! Lothy's revelation that she could have been more gentle in treating his wound was such a priceless nugget to me! She is not someone he could easily overwhelm. It is so easy to see that they are a perfect match. Elfhelm is also very interesting, especially when he revealed how he came to begin his married life. I just love how you put very distinct personalities and interesting personal backgrounds for the characters. The revelation here that it was Elfhelm who encouraged Eomer to go to the Houses of Healing in the first place is priceless.

whitewave · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Loved the second "first meeting" scene here and pretty much everything else in this chapter! It's so romantic-movie-like! Poor Eomer didn't know what hit him! I enjoyed the sensual tension and romantic undertones of their "argument" and Lothy's line: "After all, with three brothers I have lots of practice in forgiving stupidity,” was priceless! And Erchirion's: “Unfortunately sororicide is illegal in Gondor.”

whitewave · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 1: Chapter One

Loved the dialogue between Eomer and Faramir about Eowyn, and the fair assembly comment where the neareast and dearest could amount to about 500. Laughed out loud about Eomer's "give me orcs" line. I especially adored Amrothos here and always anticipate something very funny & amusing to happen whenever he is in the scene. The hand-off of Lady Cuillwen holds a lot of promise and made me think that Amrothos has a big role to play in the future. Although I'm a bit partial to Amrothos because he is so funny and entertaining. Loved Arwen's comment about Gimli!

Thanks to the MPAs, I discovered your wonderful series. I normally print up fics (Stories of Arda makes that so easy!) so I dont review as often as I should because I get too caught up in the story. I love this series! nautika

This was very sexy! I've been in New Zealand and Australia without internet access for the last 3 weeks. This was great to come home to. You write these people so realistically.

Imrahoil · 21 December 2005 · Chapter 6: Chapter Six

Bodkin · 21 December 2005 · Chapter 6: Chapter Six

Boy, is the electricity between the two of them ... electric. And the hilarious thing is that they are both completely denying it! And I just loved the way she completely silence him with the sheer unexpectedness of her remark. “I always thought having another person’s tongue in my mouth would be rather disgusting.” It's one of the things that draws him to her, really. She is unpredictable. Only she could refer to their activities as 'educational'. Perfect time for Elfhelm to turn up. And a perfect person. He can take Eomer to task, but isn't about to start a real furore about the ... shocking events. And he is so right. Eomer can only have Lothiriel as his wife. I wonder how long it will take him to come round to the idea. Your Lothiriel has become the definitive Lothiriel as far as I'm concerned. She's great.

Author's reply

Quite frankly: that is what I thought about the whole matter of kissing when I was about twelve or thirteen years old. I just did not blurt it out the way Lothíriel did. - Even if I was tempted to do it.

Kitty · 21 December 2005 · Chapter 6: Chapter Six

“I always thought having another person’s tongue in my mouth would be rather disgusting.”

Author's reply

Einmal ganz ehrlich! Was hast Du vor Deinem ersten Kuss gedacht?

Nilmandra · 20 December 2005 · Chapter 6: Chapter Six

This was just a wonderful look at love nearly gone out of control! Eomer and Lothiriel love each other, are perfect for each other, and they're both playing stupid about it.... but then, thats half the fun. :D I love that you made a kiss, what some consider a simple thing, into a very romantic, hormone inducing event.

Author's reply

You can control only something you know. Lothíriel and Éomer are suddenly confronted by something they've never before had to deal with.

Julia · 20 December 2005 · Chapter 6: Chapter Six

Zowee! This has got to be one of the best kisses I have ever read about in a fic! Hot and sexy without being at all smutty or disgusting. Bravo!

Author's reply

That is what a kiss should be: hot and sexy and nothing else.

Kitty · 18 December 2005 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

daw the minstrel · 17 December 2005 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

Loved the description of Firefoot as "not quite sensible." I think he and Eomer are well matched. Because Eomer is obviously not quite sensible either, or he wouldn't have finished by kissing her. His speech to the wounded men was wonderful.

Author's reply

I thought a sensible horse simply wouldn't fit Éomer's character.

Bodkin · 17 December 2005 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

The picture in my mind of Lothiriel standing like a cross between a scarecrow and a diver dripping marigold oil is just lovely. And her reaction again totally throws Eomer. I can't imagine that those veterans will be very surprised if Lothiriel ends up Queen of Rohan. She and Eomer are clearly equals in ways that probably neither is to anyone else. Made for each other! She can stand up to him better than anyone else, except probably Eowyn who has the advantage of having trained him since her birth. And then, of course, she turns him to mush. But kissing! Eomer is pushing his luck here. And he knows it. And so does she!

Author's reply

They are equals in a sense that they are both quite confused by their feelings for each other.

Nilmandra · 17 December 2005 · Chapter 5: Chapter Five

These two are almost like children trying to get caught because they WANT the punishment (ie marriage) that would be forced on them! Of course, then they could bicker and blame each other for being forced to do something they had not decided on themselves!

Author's reply

And like children they don't really care about the consequences - at least not until they have to face them.

Bodkin · 15 December 2005 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

Imrahil knows! Not, perhaps, exactly what is going on - but he has seen the way they looked at each other and he is carefully not asking questions! He probably started thinking of Eomer as son-in-law material right after the Black Gate. I love Eomer's diffidence (it's the best word I can come up with at the moment) - he is really quite taken aback by Elessar, Faramir and Imrahil's instant agreement to provide as much support as Rohan needs. And, in spite of not needing a wife, Eomer goes straight off to carry out the bidding of the Princess of Dol Amroth. And, if he's lucky, see her - just, of course, so that he can express his displeasure.

Author's reply

The most amazing thing about Imrahil is that he does indeed think of Éomer as son-in-law material. That says a lot about him. And Lothíriel is for Éomer some kind of itch that needs scratching.

Kitty · 14 December 2005 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

“I will have to learn how to glare like Éomer King. I would have my sons in line in no time.”

daw the minstrel · 14 December 2005 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

Gondorians share some traits with hamsters. Now there's a line you don't see every day! Éomer asked himself seriously if Éowyn would mind very much being bonded to a man with a multiple broken nose. I love Eomer. Given how you show his future in-laws, I'm thinking that family gatherings will be lively.

Author's reply

I'm a sucker for lively family gatherings. I have plenty of family; I know what I am talking about and Éomer better gets used to the idea that Lothíriel's family is a bit on the strange side (at least the one I gave her - and you haven't met Aunt Ivriniel yet)

Nilmandra · 14 December 2005 · Chapter 4: Chapter Four

I loved the vision of Eomer storming around the palace, and the bemusement to these others in response. I love Imrahil's controlled and calm response... and the comment that Eomer needs a wife... of course he does! He is thinking only of useless women, not how helfpul a good wife would be in helping Rohan recover. You put a lot of thought into the recovery of these nations - of food, and horses and shelter and how injured soldiers can be of use still...nicely done.

Author's reply

A war is not over with the end of the armed conflict. A war is about destruction and devastation. There might be victory celebrations on the winner side, but even the winners have suffered casulties and losses and need to recover. That is too often forgotten.

Kitty · 11 December 2005 · Chapter 3: Chapter Three

Also echt, was Lothíriel hier macht, nennt man wohl ‚den Teufel mit Beelzebub austreiben’!

Author's reply

She was just taking a "calculated risk".
