What a pleasure to find such a well written story that I had not read before. I do hope the author still reads the reviews now and again to know that the story is still being discovered and enjoyed.

That a nice story. I loved the way you show them both good and worthy as they are and still att odds (is it the correct expression?) with each other; and Faramir ever so perceptive and Eowyn confused. And you made the story intersting without bad hurts and big adventures -- not a small feat.

Bodkin · 6 June 2006 · Chapter 9: Epilogue

I'm glad Eomer and Aragorn's minds were set at rest. Although, in many ways, Faramir and Eowyn's happiness is more by luck than judgment. Luck and admirable patience on Faramir's part. Even if Faramir and Eowyn had loved each other dearly from the Gardens part of the story, their marriage would have required a great deal of determination and willingness to compromise from both of them. They are ornamentally - and socially - acceptable to each other, but they have very different backgrounds - and, probably, expectations of marriage. But that was a lovely ending!

I have enjoyed this story very much and it does fit with my own idea of Faramir and Eowyn, it it would take time for love to grow. You Faramir is lovely,a usband any lady would surely grow to love,so kind and gentlemanly.Thank you for an enjoyable and beautifully written story.I hope you will write more in future.

Awww, I LOVED the ending! Nice touch, ending it with Eomer and his concern for his sister, beginning with him talking to Aragorn about it, and then walking through the city with Faramir and Eowyn. hehehe, I can just imagine that! LOL, smart Faramir to know that Eowyn's brother, who had the clout of also being King, would need some private time with her to assuage his concerns. Good thing he could be fairly confident the report would be favorable! And finishing up with the sunrise was a nice touch, with Eomer observing them undetected, where he could see for himself that she was keeping nothing from him, that she truly was happy and loved and in love. I would have liked some sort of little mention of how their changed status may have helped her with any lingering memories of Grima, or him with any continuing nightmares of fire, but still.... a wonderful, satisfying, absolutely YUMMY ending. Thanks!!!

Oh... very good. I LOVE the 'ranger game'. Very well described, and full of emotion as well. I felt almost breathless myself as they played. I also loved Faramir and Elessar's exchange, where the King inquires as to the well-being of his Steward and his Lady. His concern is not just as a king, but as a friend who cares about the people involved, and who perhaps also feels a little responsible for their happiness since it was at his request that they married. And Faramir, holding "his gaze open for his Lord to search and understand"... excellent. It shows his beautiful nature, the trust he has for his King and friend, his absolute decency and honor. Wow.. that just got to me. *huge, deep sigh* I LOVE Faramir! LOLOL And finally he says the words he needs to say, speaking out to her. "I have missed you." "I love you." I'm glad he spoke them first, and that they've finally reached out to each other in trust and love. *another sigh, with a sappy grin on my face* Great job, Ellethill!! Very satisfying!

A fitting end to an excellent AU story! The image of Faramir and Eowyn sitting, her in his arms, on their balcony watching the sunrise, is delightful. Eomer's concern is well-described, along with his relief that Eowyn is finally experiencing long overdue and deserved happiness.

Bodkin · 1 June 2006 · Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Yay! Patience pays off. I'm glad they've both managed to speak of their feelings and wishes. Although it must have been frustrating, those ten days apart must have been the clincher - with each aching for the presence of the other. And now, they're walking off into the sunset!

Linda Hoyland · 30 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Chapter 8

A beautiful chapter. The "game" was perfect for lowering inhibitions. I love Faramir's tenderness and concern. It was also nice to see Aragorn again.

Macphisto's girl · 30 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Ohh, very sweet! I like this story. My favorite part of this chapter was the game. But, still can't see this like the end... don't know why.

Author's reply

That's because there's also the epilogue to post... :) Soon...

ming · 30 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Chapter 8

The declarations of love are slightly too much on the side of cliche for me, but the sense of growing mutual respect, trust and love throughout the story was brilliant. The game in this last chapter, plus all their reactions to it, were undeniably sexy ;) Thanks for a great story!

Macphisto's girl · 29 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Chapter 7

I'm reading your story, and I'm really intrigued right now. From my POV, you described quite well the personality of this couple... At first, I couldn't imagine Eowyn like you described her (it's very different from the character from Tolkien). But, you're a good writer and you make me believe that... And that's the important thing, isn't it? You have this power as an autor. I have to confess that I'm very pleased with the character Faramir (I love him!). The dance was a nice way to get this two closer. We have to wait and see what you're planning for this two... I have so many things to say, but I'm short of vocabulary. English it's not my mother language (I'm from Argentina), so it's more difficult to express my thoughts (put the right verbs, for example). I hope you can understand me correctly! Well, I'm waiting for more, so post more soon, please! Greetings! MPG

Linda Hoyland · 27 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Chapter 7

I thought your interpretation of Faramir's thoughts about his father excellent.A very good chapter.

Linda Hoyland · 27 May 2006 · Chapter 6: Chapter 6

This is so sweet and romantic, I just love your Faramir.

Bodkin · 25 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Chapter 7

A very sensible conversation - Eowyn must have found it very liberating. Care, but not smothering. An entitlement to be herself. And, even better, a show of frailty from Faramir that enables her to feel she has something to offer him. I don't think it'll be long now before they stop stepping carefully round each other!

Bodkin · 25 May 2006 · Chapter 6: Chapter 6

“I have you, I will not let you fall.” Their relationship is beginning to build - in familiarity and trust.

AspenJules · 24 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Oh, I'm loving this, though I hope it's not the end just yet. They are almost there, almost free of the fears and misunderstandings. I do hope you chose to give it at least one more chapter! I have to say that I love your development of both of them; Eowyn's decision not to take up the sword in Ithilien was beautifully done. Faramir has long been one of my very most favorite characters in all of LOTR, and you have brought him to life for me, his thoughts and feelings and difficulties. He is so noble and generous, so worthy of love, and she is so capable of giving him the love he needs once she gets past her hesitations. I'm not speaking so much of the physical act as of the entrusting to him of her whole heart, of showering him with the passionate and unbounded acceptance of which she is capable and of which he has such need. Now, promise me one more at least - PLEASE! I'm not above getting on my knees and begging....

AspenJules · 24 May 2006 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

I have been reading this story so far all morning, in between my responsibilities and chores, and have only now decided to review because... well, because I felt badly that I hadn't before now, being so enthralled with the language and the story. It's odd, because before I found your story this morning, I had just been thinking about how their respective pasts may have caused difficulties in the relationship between Eowyn and Faramir, even if they HAD married for love rather than for reasons of state. Many of your ideas match the ones I had, and some are different. The language you write in reminds me somewhat of Jane Austen, formal but eloquent. Sometimes I'm a little unsure what you are driving at, especially in the dialogue between them when they make a subtle statement. Guess I'm just not that swift at picking up all the nuances, though I've gotten the gist of it. There have also been times in the past 5 chapters where it seems the timeline has jumped around a bit, that some weeks (plural) have passed, and then it's only been seven days, so that it gets a little confusing. Perhaps it's in the shift from one person's perspective to the other that I get mixed up, I'm not certain. However, I have to tell you that I am loving this story. I LOVE both your characterization of Eowyn and of Faramir, as well as Aragorn's concerns (which I felt were very realistic and logical) as well as Eomer's mixed feelings. Eomer was wonderfully jumbled in his emotions, which I think was delightfully believable, and for him to have ended up chosing to respond with anger to the news that she had given her answer already was very realistic, as we so often choose the very worst response from those available to us when we are faced with internal emotional conflict (especially men, poor things.) I also like the pace. You mentioned that you paced it this way deliberately, and I don't find it boring or slow at all, but am truly enjoying the slow development of feelings and the tentative approaches they are making towards one another. I can't wait to see how it plays out, and am so very glad you are not giving into the ploy of using some dramatic event to drive them together. Real life rarely works that way, and this shows a true path to love, getting to know someone through their actions and relations with others, coming to respect them and moving on to love. Of course, this poor couple had their share of extra obstacles but they're getting there. Great job, great writing, and keep up the wonderful work. Julie

Well! There seems to be a bit of a rapprochement going on here! And Faramir is definitely trustworthy - and strong in a very non-Rohirric way. I'm glad they seem to be noticing each other. The problem now will be getting them past admitting to each other that they are attracted! It's only too easy to let situations like this drift - and decide you'll do something about it tomorrow. And, if they leave it too long, they will just become too used to the way things are. But love growing from friendship and common purpose - such a grown up relationship!

Linda Hoyland · 19 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Evocative and beautiful.THese two have so many problems and have endured so much.

Bodkin · 7 March 2006 · Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Eowyn is bound to notice soon what a star she has married. Unless her experiences in Rohan with Wormtongue are rather more distressing than she wishes to admit. I'm glad Faramir is keeping himself under control. Although sometimes he is just too self-deprecating! Fingers crossed they both begin to settle to this marriage malarkey.

Linda Hoyland · 4 March 2006 · Chapter 4: Chapter 4

I just love your Faramir,he is such a noble gentleman !You have a beautiful style of writing, like a genuine mediaeval epic.

Linda Hoyland · 18 February 2006

I just love the way you depict Faramir here.He is so kind and compassionate towards Eowyn, yet seems doomed to be rejected by her as he was by his father.I loved the image of his dark hair spilling across the pillow. I am enjoying this story very much.

Bodkin · 18 February 2006

Well - six days isn't very long. It must be very frustrating for Faramir, but it's bound to take a while before Eowyn can believe that his word is his bond. And then, I suspect, she will be the one who is frustrated! It seems she is beginning to trust him and work with him during the day - but the nights sleeping side by side are just a bit much for her at the moment. And their relationship will be stronger for his patience. In the end.

Bodkin · 15 February 2006 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Faramir seems to be putting in a bit more effort than Eowyn - but at least he gets to stay in his own home and country, while she has left everything familiar behind. But they are showing themselves as good partners for each other - if only they can move below the surface and show some trust.

Author's reply

Yes, Faramir would put in more effort in the beginning. Apart from the fact that even from the start he had wanted to help Eowyn recover from whatever darkness the last years of her life had brought (this also being one of his reasons for accepting the marriage), he would also understand that she would give the most up, as she would also quit her lands and all that is familiar to her, as you've pointed out. He would strive to make her comfortable, and sure of her place and role, perhaps also feeling a little guilty for bringing the marriage upon her (after all, it had been his King to come with the idea, even if Faramir had given Eowyn the choice). Plus, he knows her better than she knows him, and Eowyn would also have to overcome her mistrust of him - something he would know, and try, subtly, to help her move past. Well, at least this is how I see it :) Thanks for pointing it out!
