· Chapter 26: The Byrding's Decision
Well, well, the Gamgees have moved up in the world! Sam's own daughter actually ended up becoming the Thain's Lady.
However, there's just one little problem. We all know that Gamgees strongly value propriety, and it wouldn't be proper for the Thain's Lady to use rustic speech.

Reply: Well, I used not only leprachauns, but real world traditions of brownies, pixies and other small folks as well-- perhaps all of those legends came from hobbits originally?
And elves! Don't forget elves, especially Santa's elves! =)

· Chapter 28: A Shortcut to Disaster
It wasn't only Maggot's dogs that frightened Frodo after that--he was equally frightened of Farmer Maggot himself! He avoided Maggot and his farm like the plague for years after that.
Perhaps you could write a story about that! Here's a challenge for you--what was the farmer's reaction to learning that Frodo had been afraid of him for so long?

I really wish that danachan's Annotated Tale of Years still existed! I should like to have a look at it.
With that said, nice story! Could I prevail upon you to write about Sam's first lessons?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the picture in the link you included is not there anymore. If you want us to be able to see it, you'll need to fix that.
It's been three years now since I posted a review of this story. I still think you should write that sequel! =) I would love to find out what Frodo and Gandalf think of it.

If this is too much trubbel trouble for you then you can give him back to me.
LOL! Bilbo must have laughed when he read that sentence. (Of course, he would have had to stifle his laughter, to prevent Frodo from hearing. =))

· Chapter 54: A Much Needed Holiday
Pippin must have taken on the title of The Took later that year since, according to The Tale of Years, he became the Thain and the Took in 1434, the year this story is set in. (That was also the same year that Sam was elected to his second term as mayor, and when Aragorn made him, Merry, and Pippin Counsellors of the North kingdom. Hey, that'd be something to write a fanfiction story about! =))

· Chapter 54: A Much Needed Holiday
This is a delightful story! Nice idea to have it consist of letters. A great idea the ladies had, to get the two families together with the Gamgees at Bag End--they needed one other!
Just one question. You typed as the year that those letters were written as S.R. 1334. Wouldn't the year have been 1434, S.R.? Back in 1334, Frodo, the oldest of the bunch, hadn't even been thought of yet! =)
Author's reply
You are quite right! I shall edit that right away!

Too bad the pictures are no longer in LiveJournal. I would have liked to see them! Oh, well, at least, I've got the DVD, so seen Bilbo wearing that robe in the movie itself.
What a touching mother's gift that must have been!
Author's reply
Oh dear! I didn't realize the link had broken. I wonder if it's still at MPTT!
I don't know if I can find a new screencap now.
I knew the minute I saw him that his mother had made it for him.

· Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor
Hey, you ought to write a sequel to this story, describing Sam showing that drawing to Frodo, Bilbo, and Gandalf, and explaining how it came about! It would be so cute to see them all laughing about that. =)
Author's reply
Perhaps! I'll keep that in mind!

· Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree
Hahaha! I certainly guessed one of them! I'm glad I'm coming to this now that I'm a bit older and no longer need ideas put forth in fanfic as a crutch to face oncoming adulthood and responsibilities I didn't feel ready for, because I loved 'the hobbit pile!' ;) Of course that would be hard to get used to! I'd dislike it a lot at first. What were the others?
Author's reply
I still love the hobbit pile. It's a part of my own headcanon as well as a cherished fanon.
But it IS fanon, and so it can be "busted".
The others:
-Brown-eyed hobbits (since fanon favors the eye-colors of movie-verse for the most part)
-The little wart and the white lock are from one of the rejected manuscripts for FotR, found in "Return of the Shadow" in HoMe. (since the fanon is that Frodo has a perfect complexion and is exceptionally good-looking)
-Aragorn taking pains to wash up and looking forward to a bath (since there's a fanon that he's always scruffy and unkempt and likes it that way)
So yes, I did bust a few. But I still like some fanons, so I consider this little ficlet "AU", LOL!

· Chapter 93: Wakenings
Frodo looked up at him with a smile that went all the way to his eyes, his cheeks turning red with pleasure. "Thank you, Sam."
This mental picture makes me so happy! And I love your Shire lullaby! When I came across it in "Will There Ever Be a Morning?" it reminded me of one of mine that escaped being dreadfully repetitious. :) My mind keeps trying to come up with a tune to this one; do you have one?
Author's reply
I'm so glad you liked it!
Part of the Shire lullaby scans to "All Through the Night", but the whole thing doesn't quite fit to that tune. It's close though.
And I recall your lullaby; it was lovely.

This is so sweet. I love that Sam, too, read what Aragorn wrote in the end.

Poor Frodo! This really is unpleasant to deal with. A sprain is the only serious injury I've ever had, and like him, mine came at a really...interesting time, right in the middle of college finals! I didn't have a good reason for mine, though, I was just clumsy and not paying attention. I'm glad he had such a good birthday anyway!
