Hello Misty, I realize that it has been a long time since I last read your story. I am deeply impressed. I had another thought in my head that was totally diffrent from the truth. Poor Aragorn. I'm glad that legolas is with him. His wounds are deep. I hope that with Legolas's help they'll eventually heal. Nayru

Author's reply

Thank you. Yes, I think that Legolas will help Aragorn heal from his wounds, even though they were inflicted years ago.

Good story of friendship, Very enjoyable well done

MithLuin · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 5

Very interesting story. I like how Legolas doubts what 'must' be true, and how he comes to understand his friend better by learning the truth. Friendship is so important, and it truly does shine in your story.

Author's reply

Thanks, I do try to show strong friendships in my stories. Good friends can help people through even the worst circumstances.

In "The Acceptable Sacrifice" I have a discussion of just this issue in which it is impressed upon Frodo that Aragorn has had to live with those who died to give him the chance to fulfill his destiny and has had to learn to accept their sacrfices; and so Frodo needs to learn to accept the same, for Frodo was feeling guilty for all those who died that he might reach the Sammath Naur. An excellent situation to delve into, and a well done story.

Author's reply

I'll have to add that to my reading list. This is an interesting issue to go into, and I'd like to see what you've done with it. But it would be a very hard thing for anyone to deal with, knowing that other people gave up their lives so that they might live.

Larner · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 4

Yes, for the King Returned, this would indeed be a difficult time, learning that he must allow others to die that he might live to fulfill the promise. And the loss of this one, so like unto himself, must have been almost more than he can bear.

Author's reply

Yes, he's been living with a great deal of guilt over this for a long time. It's something he'll never fully get past. For him, this would be the hardest part of his heritage, knowing that others would sacrifice their lives for his.

Lianna · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 4

So, it was not as convoluted a story as I had expected. But it's still very tragic. I wonder whether Legolas has a similar incident in his past. I imagine that most professional soldiers can look back on a situation in which their own inexperience cost someone else's life, but Aragorn and Bregor's story is particularly poignant because of the close bond between the two men and the fact that Bregor's wife was expecting. I like this story. Very realistic.

Author's reply

But I still liked seeing your guesses. Yes, it is a tragic situation, and I'm sure it's all too common in the lives of soldiers. Aragorn has had to live with the knowledge that his best friend sacrificed his life and the chance to raise his child so that Aragorn would survive. Thanks.

RS · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 4

Aha! So the mystery is solved! Now do all the Dunedains look alike? Oh my gosh! What a tragedy! A sacrifice of one life so another can live!..And a best friend! That is hard to take. Poor Aragorn!

Author's reply

Well, I do think that many of the Dunedain did at least have similar coloring, so it would not have been that uncommon for Aragorn to find a friend that resembles him. Thanks for deciding to continue the story when you weren't sure where I might be taking it. Yes, it was a tragedy for all involved, but Bregor would have done it again in a heartbeat. It's just been very difficult for Aragorn to live with the knowledge that his best friend would make that kind of sacrifice for him.

Arwen of Lorien · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 4

Aww, what a guy. So Aragorn had a best friend. This is a good, still sad, story. Alot of best friends happen to be look alikes huh? That only makes the payback better when Aragorn finds a twin to do the twins in. hehe. That is soo sad but sweet how Bregor saved him, and through that he saved a great many people! Don't feel guilty Estel!! Good story, Misty! God bless, ~Arwen

Author's reply

Yes, I do think Aragorn really needed an ally in his early travels with the Dunedain. And I could just see these two young humans starting a prank war with the twins. ;-) Considering how close they were, I'm sure Bregor would have done anything to save Aragorn's life, but Aragorn would hold onto that guilt for a long time. I'm glad you're enjoying the story.

Lianna · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 3

How interesting. And how sad. :( I still think the boy is Aragorn's biological son. Perhaps the woman found out about Aragorn's destiny only after she became pregnant. I think that either she was horrified by the idea of herself and her child getting involved in all that or she considered herself unsuitable to be part of it (because of a lack of education or whatever). Aragorn would understand her feelings since he wasn't overly thrilled with his heritage, either. Presumably the woman married Bregor later, with Aragorn's full understanding and support, and Bregor raised the boy. And presumably, Bregor died in some way that's related to his connection with Aragorn. Or perhaps not. I will wait and see.

Author's reply

Well, I'm truly enjoying seeing your guesses as to what is happening and where I'm going with this story. As to who Bregor, the woman and the boy are, you should have some of those answers in the next chapter. Enjoy.

Arwen of Lorien · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 3

Aww, nice place to end! WWHHHAAATTT does he say? I am glad to update quickly or this story would drive me mad. Its very interesting. ;) Keep it up! ~God bless ~Arwen

Author's reply

Well, I have to keep the suspense up somehow, don't I? lol I'm glad you're enjoying it. And since I would hate to drive you mad, I just posted the next chapter. You will get some answers there, I promise.

Larner · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 3

It does sound as if there is a cousin here who was close to Aragorn, and for whose family he cares. Very solemn feel here.

Author's reply

Thank you, I felt that their ritual at the grave would be a very solemn affair, and the tone should stay throughout the chapter. You'll find more about Bregor in the next chapter.

RS · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 2

I read the first chapter and didn't want to leave a review because while reading it, I had a strange feeling that it was leading to another woman! And of course being an Aragorn/Arwen fan, I did not want to persue this story. So I wanted to ignore this story..BUT!!... my curiosity got the best of me and the suspense was killing me and I had to go on! I knew it! There has to be a very good explanation! Elrond does know about it! AARRGGHHH!!! I am hooked! What happened??? Will be waiting for the next posting! ARagorn will be awfully angry at Legolas when he finds out he has been following him!

Author's reply

Well, I had the feeling chapter two might chase off a few people. But I'll just say this. The original title of this story was 'Things are not always as they seem'. I changed it to Regret because I thought it fit the story better. I'm glad you're curious enough to continue. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. The next chapter is up, and I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Nayru · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 2

Hello Misty, 'Tis the first time I've read one of your fiction stories and I can only say"Wow!". Who would expect this of Aragorn? Well, at least Legolas has his head cool. I understand what you said about the timing. I anticipate the next chapter with excitement but with the patience of an elf. Well, that is why I consider myself an elf. Until later, Nayru.

Author's reply

Hi, I try to post updates fairly quickly, so you can go check out the next chapter and let me know what you think of the newest clues in the puzzle.

Lianna · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 2

I must admit that when I read the last chapter, I thought of a lot of possible things that Aragorn might not have wanted to share with Legolas, but this isn't one of them. I can't wait to find out what's really going on here. Somehow, I don't think tht Aragorn would have concealed the child from his family, even if his relationship with the woman did not work out. So maybe it's the woman who wants to keep it secret? Just guessing.

Author's reply

I try not to do the expected in my stories. I'd like to hear what your guesses are after the next chapter.

Lianna · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 1

This is intriguing. So many possibilities...

Larner · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 2

A hidden sister? A cousin? I myself cannot imagine Aragorn having a tryst with any one other than Arwen, much less leaving it lie this way.

Author's reply

Well, chapter three should provide another small clue to what is going on. ;-)

HazleSilver · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 1

I would love to see more of this story!

Author's reply

More of the story coming up!

Larner · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 1

So, Elrond is aware, is he? Wonderful, then. And Legolas WILL find out in spite of Aragorn. Interesting situation.

Author's reply

I'm not sure if Elrond truly knows the full story, but he does at least know part of it. And yes, Legolas will find out the full story before the end.

Robinscat · 5 April 2006 · Chapter 1

I like the start to the story. It has the right amount of intrigue. But what really caught my attention was the interaction between Legolas and Aragorn. I liked that they could have a disagreement and even said some harsh words. Not many stories out there show their friendship realistically. Either they are always in agreement with no agrueing or they hate each others guts. I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Thank you for sharing your gift. Robin

Author's reply

Thanks, most friends do have occasional tensions, and that would be true for even friends as close as Aragorn and Legolas, so this story does show that a little bit. I'm glad you like it.
