· Chapter 49: Waxing Poetical
Sorry about that non review I just sent - can you erase it please?
Now onto the real review: Sam, is it possible you can convey the news of Lady C. to Arwen? I think she would love to know. I think Aragorn would be thrilled to hear I am to be married also, although you may have a hard time making him believe I am marrying a sea-lady....
And am I seriously mistaken in thinking there is yet another on the way for you and Rosie as well?
I love the thoughtfulness here of informing Arwen she has another sibling coming and to tell Aragorn about the upcoming nuptials. That would ease his heart to know that Frodo is so happy. And I'm glad our dear is keeping on the growing clan of his brother as well. :)
Merry Christmas too - just in case I don't talk to you again before then. Christ is born! Glorify Him!
Namarie,
God bless,

That was Larner's idea;) A lovely thought I just had to work into the story! I do that sometimes if you've noticed *g* I'm even contemplating a chapter or short story in which Aragorn and Arwen do learn of the news...but that will come much later, I'm sure. Maybe after the child is born, or something.
Merry Christmas too - just in case I don't talk to you again before then. Christ is born! Glorify Him!
Right back atcha Dearheart! A big Amen!

· Chapter 49: Waxing Poetical
Seldirima doesn't sound much of a loss. Though I hope Guilin isn't dashing headlong into another relationship just to fill up the emptiness inside him. He needs a lot more healing first. And more time with Frodo.
Author's reply
I think seeing so many people around him happily in love is making him wish for it himself, but no, he isn't ready for it yet. He has taken the first steps, coming to see Frodo as a friend and benefactor instead of a usurper who considers him an unfit guardian for his sister and is trying to worm his way between them. Guilin has also acknowledged that he needs help and has put Raven into good hands. But yes, he still has a long way to go yet before he will be ready for the joys of love, home and family.
And yes, he is well rid of Seldirima, for sure!

Lovely bit of foresight from Frodo. And it will do Celebrian and Elrond so much good to have another child. Or two.
Guilin and Raven are in the best place - they will get the help they need.
Author's reply
I really did want those two to have another child! Or two:D I know it will bring them joy and they are long overdue for it. And Raven and Guilin are in the right hands, and will learn to do each other good as well--I hope!

Author's reply
It's getting closer and closer...wedding bells will be ringing soon! Ah, but it's been nice playing fairy godmother to Frodo, providing him with enchanting surroundings, faithful and inspiring friends, a lovely bride and delightful children; I do hope the inspiration holds out.....:D

Another child for Elrond and Celebrian? How wonderful, and a means of easing the loss of a daughter who will not now come to join them. But a joy for her if she can learn of it....
Author's reply
Perhaps she can, ya never know...maybe there are some little magical sea-creatures who can carry messages.......;);)
Yes, they should have another child, and I am playing matchmaker for it already. I think Little Iorhael just might.......naaaahhhh, that's telling far too much, never mind...heheh..........

You didn't murder, darling!
Okay, now that's addressed, not that the stubborn Baggins will listen...
Interesting little revelation there to Lord Elrond and that our dear wants him to be happy and at peace and that he hopes Sam knows that he's found peace himself. Raven is a neat little girl too.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Oh, I think he'll listen this time. *g* He's getting better at dealing with that troublesome conscience of his. And helping Guilin to put his dark past behind him will surely help him all the more to make his own demons stay buried. After all, he was able to listen to his confessions without any bad dreams or nasty episodes this time.
Really thought Elrond and Celebrian should have another child. There's too much good stuff in them and they should pass it along, and know great joy that will help to ease the loss of their daughter. And I do enjoy Raven too--who is named for my little grandniece if you really must know;);)

Guilin needs Raven more than he thinks. I hope it'll be enough to help him heal, now he's got the right help.
And the nasty snobbish 'ladies' who sneer at Raven and steal Anemone's ideas got their comeuppance.
Author's reply
I hope so too, although it won't happen overnight. He's got a bit much baggage that needs clearing out. But at least he's taken the first step.
Silly wenches--maybe they'll learn to keep a civil tongue in their heads and give credit where it's due! And I've a strong feeling they won't be going out in public for a good long while yet, at least not in the daytime--and they'll be in for even more embarrassment when they find the Princess has adopted the "street-rat".....:D

Ah, but it will be a great loss when the Princess loses her magic. And now she was thinking of black and white diamonds, after pirate flags, sea shantys, and treasure maps? And they never bothered to look to see what male MIGHT have been speaking to them? Silly lasses.
A nice giggle here.
Author's reply
After all that heavy angst, a little comedy was in order, we decided. Harlequin diamonds were a thought, then the Muse and I decided that fashion pirates need a more appropriate comeuppance. Poor maidens--guess they learned a lesson or two about giving credit where it's due...and about making catty remarks where the recipients might hear them! And no telling who that fellow was, but he surely got a good chuckle all the way home!
Thanks millions for reviewing!

· Chapter 46: Guilin's Scars
Poor Guilin. Although he still seems to be unashamedly shallow in most things. Including his devotion to his one true love. But he'd be better off learning to deal with his past rather than obliterating it. After all, Raven still needs him.
Author's reply
She does, and I hope she and Frodo can dissuade him. He's seriously messed up and trying desperately to escape his private hell, and it won't be easy. As he is now, marriage is the last thing he needs, and marriage with him is the last thing his fiancée needs. But erasure would be a form of suicide, and devastating to his sister.

· Chapter 46: Guilin's Scars
He does carry an intolerable burden of grief and painful memories, and I can see why he would consider having his memory erased. But it ought to be Raven's own choice, as Frodo points out.
Author's reply
Not sure if he will do it or not yet...he might be better off and yet the TLC he will no doubt receive from Raven's new family would surely do him some good, although perhaps he is beyond that and his revelation has brought him to his breaking point. And Raven will not stand either for having it done without her leave, if it is even possible. She didn't survive as long as she did by being weak-willed!

Hmm. Adopted daughter marrying son of the bride. Interesting concept. And joy comes in this morning to Northlight.
Author's reply
And three different races in one family. Parents mortal, children not. Son marries his sister. (Well, Aragorn did it, what?) Should make for plenty of talk on the Island. Somehow I don't think Guilin is going to be thrilled about the whole matter. He might try to stir something up...maybe. We'll see........

Counterfeit gowns! Espionage on the fashion front!
Raven will be better off with Frodo and Anemone - but I think she needs her brother to keep visiting. And to come under the influence of those who are high principled.
Author's reply
Oh yes, she will, certainly, and her brother will be granted full visiting privileges, of course...although Frodo may revoke or suspend them if he tries any funny stuff! He will take fatherhood seriously and may well influence Guilin into the right path...even if he himself is not above aiding and abetting his bride in foiling those creatures who presume to steal her designs;);)
Perhaps the Prince had better invent copyrighting, at that.........

· Chapter 44: The Best Gifts
Goodness - Raven's a bit young to go accepting proposals, isn't she? And her brother sounds a real chancer! It's just as well that Frodo doesn't mind taking Raven under his wing.
But the magic of the sea people is most interesting - and I suppose it doesn't seem at all special to them. Anemone is becoming very caring - Raven seems to bring out the mother in her. Poor kid. Her scars are more than on the outside.
Author's reply
I conceived of Raven as being the equivalent of a mortal girl of about 13 or 14 years old, which is old enough to marry in some societies, of course, but for an elf-girl it is a trifle youngish, surely. Still, she can't help but be attracted to the family stability she perceives in Frodo, Anemone, and Northlight, and perhaps there's something in her that wants to be a part of it, and I don't doubt she finds Northlight attractive in himself. Frodo surely identifies strongly with Raven himself, both in being an orphan and having been in Mordor, thus seeing fit to share his light with her. Guilin loves her in his way, certainly, but as a well-known author remarked, love is never any better than the lover.
I think I've conceived the sea-folk as a sort of lower order of Maiar, faery-like and sometimes very intelligent, yet with the simplicity of animals in their emotions and sexuality, but becoming more and more human as they interact with land-folk, to whom they are strongly attracted in folklore. And magic may be important to them but Anemone is discovering that love may be even better. As well as more dangerous.

Oh, to have the blessing of Earendil on all of them! So fitting! And still ANOTHER marriage in the making, and a long story to learn of what happened to Raven.

So glad you like it, Dearie--I keep meaning to put it to music, and getting sidetracked...well, maybe soon! Maybe even this weekend, since it looks like I may get snowed in.......

Author's reply
Of course we can't! That wouldn't do at all, now would it? and he WILL make a wonderful father, and find that fathering other people's kids is not such a bad proposition, at that. Especially if he decides to adopt Raven, which I am contemplating having him do...although maybe Gandalf will take that step instead, well, we'll see--as always!
Guess this series is my way of playing fairy godmother to Frodo...providing him with a delightful home and devoted friends and adoring subjects and a lovely bride and a family of his own...a bit at a time!

· Chapter 43: Raven
Well - adopting Raven might be a very good move. She'll be better of with Frodo, Anemone and Northlight than with a brother who sees her as disposable because of some selfish girl. (Although I suppose that means that he is as selfish as the girl, really.)
Author's reply
Certainly she would, and it may well happen...although I seriously don't think Guilin is going to marry that girl, I think he's just got a case of temporary insanity, is a bit tired of his life as it is and thinks he is finally ready to settle down but in the end will probably chicken out...or is that telling too much? heheh
Of course, if Frodo does adopt her and Northlight marries her, he will be marrying his sister;)...but I suppose that's all right if they're no real relation. Aragorn did it, didn't he?

And this time the Maia groom takes an Elven bride.
And indeed about bloody time! Heh!
Will be interesting to see how Northlight settles his concerns. Landish indeed!
Author's reply
Ah, these mixed marriages! They do produce some beautiful offspring, however;) And as Frodo noted earlier, immortals would do well to be extremely cautious in choosing a mate, since they are stuck with each other throughout all the ages and not just through one lifetime.
Not sure myself just exactly how he's going to do it. Time and the Muse will tell!

· Chapter 41: Being Landish
I hope Anemone doesn't miss being able to have flowers spring up where'er she treads and such like! The baby seems exceedingly cute - and Anemone is very laidback about the bridesmaids. Northlight seems to be taking rather an interest in elf maidens! And becoming landish! I thought Anemone was going to die because she wed a mortal - wouldn't that be different if Northlight married an immortal?
And a bridal gown for Riannor? That's thinking ahead, Anemone!
Author's reply
Frodo has the same concern, I'm sure...which is why he is studying his book so diligently, so he'll be able to compensate her for what she's giving up. Maybe if he's learned his lesson well enough, spring flowers and changing gowns will seem like small po-tay-toes to her after the wedding night!
Yes, no bridezilla she! (My friend who is a wedding photographer could tell you all about bridezillas!) Coming from a people who don't have weddings, she has a fresh perspective on the subject, I should think.
Well....my reading about water people has been somewhat confusing. According to Hans Christian Andersen, mermaids live about 300 years and then turn into seaweed, unless they mate with a mortal and then they get a human soul and can live in the hereafter. According to other myths, watersprites and undines and selkys are immortal but acquire a human soul by marrying a mortal man and bearing his child. But I've seen nothing about them marrying an immortal. And of course, all the water-folk in those legends were female; I found myself wondering, what if one of them were a male? I was wanting Northlight to acquire a soul also, but supposed he would have to die for that. I don't know what became of Goldberry, a water-lady who married an immortal, come to think of it!

She's back! And Tilwen has had her baby - that should take some of the wind out of Galendur's sails. Fatherhood comes as a pretty big shock to some and I think he is likely to be of that party!
Northwind does sound an interesting character - I think Frodo might find himself doing a bit more parenting than he expects!
Author's reply
Most likely, on both counts...but I imagine Galendur and Frodo will both be good at parenting once they start to get the hang of it! One has the sense of humor and understanding of young minds, the other the wisdom and patience and responsibility, and both have the good sense to listen to each other and to others with worthwhile experience. And Frodo's self-esteem has gotten a huge boost from having a(nother) little namesake, I imagine...and it probably won't be the last one!

Well, but he only thought he knew joy before, and now he knows exactly what it truly is! And isn't it a good thing he had enough sense to persuade Lyrien to choose a color instead of white for her bridesmaid's dress or it might look as though he'll have *three* little brides instead of one? lol
