I love this one! I think it is so practical and so very like the folks of Buckland. I enjoyed it when I fist read it and I'm glad you've posted it here. It's an excellent look at how those odd Bucklanders began their reputation for interesting behavior.

I'm glad that you love it! I think that it would be fun to write some more drabblings about how some of the other major families developed their idiosyncrasies, though they certainly wouldn't be so outlandish as those Bucklanders! Thanks for commenting here!

PIppinfan1988 · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 4: Before Luck Runs Out

Oh, I remember this! It was just as touching today as is was then. A beautiful little piece about *why* the Bucklanders came to be swimmers. As always, very well written, and an absolute delight to read. :-)

Author's reply

Thank you so much T! I had completely forgotten this one and ran across it quite unexpectedly. I figured that there had to be a pivotal point at which the Bucklanders took the plunge so to speak, lol! Thanks again!

Lindelea · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

Lovely images! A new way of looking at the foursome, and they fit nicely into their categories. I'm out of reading time for today, but was glad to find three short pieces that I could fit in. for air cannot be held in place by anything – not even love Gorgeous!

Author's reply

Glad you liked these Lin! These particular drabbles are ones that I am especially proud to have written. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Lindelea · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

A lovely ending, and though I don't often appreciate movie-verse as opposed to book-verse, you've done this well indeed.

Author's reply

Thanks Lin! I usually prefer book-verse too but I wrote this as a companion to a film-verse story by Llinos that I absolutely love, More Than Just Years. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

Lindelea · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 4: Before Luck Runs Out

Ah, yes. It will make the Brandybucks even more of a byword in the Shire (as folk who are decidedly "odd"), but saving lives is worth it. Nice to see this! *hug*

Author's reply

Thanks so much Lin! Glad that you enjoyed it!

Pearl Took · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 4: Before Luck Runs Out

Good hobbitsense! A shame it didn't save Frodo's parents, but I'm sure it saved a good many Bucklanders. So much in so little always amazes me; well done, MG! :-)

Author's reply

Thanks Pearl!

Pearl Took · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

I particularly like the last touch of Gandalf's voice upon the breeze. Lovely, MG!

Author's reply

Thanks very much Pearl!

Larner · 10 March 2008 · Chapter 4: Before Luck Runs Out

Yes! So this is how it started, is it! And it's been TOO long between drabbles, Marigold!

Author's reply

I reasoned that it had to start *somewhere*, lol! This is actually one that I wrote months ago for one of the Challenges and forgot about. I wish I had some time for writing some new ones! Thank you so much Larner!

Grey Wonderer · 22 June 2007 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

I was so glad to read this one because I did think that Pippin deserved his own special goodbye in the films and didn't really get it. This completes things a bit. Thank you!

Author's reply

Thanks so much, and sorry to be so long in saying so! I feel the same way - after all that he and Gandalf went through together Pippin deserved a better farewell. I wanted to see that completion as well!

Grey Wonderer · 22 June 2007 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

(Pippin bubbles as water does.) That is such a perfect description of Pip. These are all wonderful but that one is, naturally, my favorite.

Author's reply

Thank you GW! For some reason Merry's is my favourite in this set but Pippin's is a very close second!

Grey Wonderer · 22 June 2007 · Chapter 1: A Change In The Weather

Ilove these. One for each hobbit and each so true to character. Lovely!

Larner · 18 June 2007 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

Good to see another addition to this one, MarigoldG. It has been a time; and this is a fitting one to follow your last stories. Thank you!

Author's reply

This is a very late thank you I am afraid! I'm glad you liked this, thank you!

harrowcat · 17 June 2007 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

“This one holds no more enchantment than the first I am afraid, save the magic that binds one good friend to another.” “That is a wonderful magic Gandalf. And, though I don’t need anything to remember you, I will treasure this always. Thank you.” Oh, *sniff, sniff,* beautiful Marigold

Author's reply

A very late thank you for a lovely review! Thanks so much harrowcat!

PIppinfan1988 · 16 June 2007 · Chapter 3: Keepsake

I just love the relationship you have between Gandalf and Pippin -- it's so sweet and so real. Now Pippin will always have something to remember Gandalf by. Hey -- another lovely item for the High King to pass on to Faramir along with a certain silver and pearl comb set -- or perhaps bequeathed to Aragorn? ;-)

Author's reply

Thanks T! The relationship between Pippin and Gandalf is second only to that between Pippin and Merry on my favourites list. I'm so glad that you thought the way I wrote them to be realistic! The keepsake stayed behind in the Shire when Merry and Pippin retired to Minas Tirith, so that the hobbits of the Shire would never forget Gandalf. Pippin kept it in a display case of gold and crystal that he had Gimli make for him, and it sat on the mantle in the Thain's Study for generations. The Tooks have very generously let Llinos look after it for a while!

Pearl Took · 19 May 2006 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

*sigh* Beautiful.

Author's reply

Thank you Pearl!

Pearl Took · 19 May 2006 · Chapter 1: A Change In The Weather

Oh! Such wonderful changes from inviting to harsh, pleasant to cruel. they gave me shivers. Wonderfully done, Marigold!!

Author's reply

Lovely review Pearl, thank you so much!

Larner · 17 May 2006 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

Wonderful word pictures of each of our four as represented by the four elements.

Author's reply

Thanks! I am so glad that you could see the pictures!

Larner · 17 May 2006 · Chapter 1: A Change In The Weather

A wonderful manner of looking at various weathers, pleasant at home; intimidating and deadly on the quest.

Author's reply

Thank you Larner! I am glad that you liked them!

harrowcat · 17 May 2006 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

Perfect comparisons in both of these Marigold. I especially loved the picture of Pippin bubbling like water.

Author's reply

Thank you so much Harrowcat! I could see Pippin as water very clearly... : )

AspenJules · 16 May 2006 · Chapter 2: Elemental Spirits

Wow... what great insights into the character of each person. Sam was obviously earth, that one was easy, but until I read each one I couldn't decide who was which element. Once I read them though... how could they be anything else? Excellent writing, Marigold. I've heard so much about you from people whose stories you beta... it's a treat to read some of your own work now.

Author's reply

Goodness, thank you! I am glad that you like my own stories (well, so far, lol!). Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
