Periantari · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 5: Friends and Foes

Wow how intriguing. I love all the description that you have in this and i can really imagine Arwen in the beginning and how Artanis dressed before she met with her father. Artanis is an interesting OFC and i like how you describe her. It's interesting how Artanis will act seeing how hurt Aragorn and Frodo were... it's interesting to see if she will indeed betray her father if she feels sympathetic to Aragorn. And gosh, i loved that bit with Sam--oh poor Sam!!! Lovely description in that part as well. :) and the last part is so suspensefully written! i can't wait for more. :)

Author's reply

I'm very glad that you like Artanis; I'm getting increasingly fond of her. And I love Arwen; I think there must be some more substance than only the elvish beauty. She is a strong, wonderful woman, and I remember how sad Tolkien was that many scenes he had written about the lovestory between her and Aragorn had to vanish into the appendices (or not be published at all). I try to do her justice each time I have the chance to write her in a tale. Thank you for your lovely compliments - I'm very glad that you enjoy this tale so much! Cúthalion

Dreamflower · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 5: Friends and Foes

Oh my! Well, meeting Aragorn, Frodo and Arwen *had* to make a difference to Artanis if she had *any* heart of her own at all. Good for her. It's too much to expect her to actually *betray* her own father--but clearly, she is going to obstruct him now, if she can. But her father sounds like an arrogant git in the same mold as Denethor, and probably Saruman too--proud of his own cleverness, and too blind to see the intelligence of others. Poor Sam, getting sick, and frightened by those villains...

Author's reply

Oh yes, poor Sam indeed! He's in deep trouble (which is the reason why there will be more than one rescue party...) Thank you!

cookiefleck · 10 August 2006 · Chapter 5: Friends and Foes

Oh, my poor, dear Sam. Now he's feverish, on top of his other woes. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Author's reply

I promise he will be saved in the end... but he really is in danger. It was an interesting thing to develop the character of Ardhenon... he got darker and darker with the growing of the plot, and meanwhile I'm a little afraid of him myself... *grins* And thank you!

SurgicalSteel · 6 August 2006 · Chapter 4: Falling Pearls

The plot's thickening, I see - still enjoying this very much, and hope to see more soon!

Author's reply

While receiving your review, I'm working on chapter 5 - alas, RL often keeps me from writing when I'm most waiting to finish a story. I hope my faithful beta will have the finished chapter on Tuesday. And thank you very, very much! Cúthalion

Linda Hoyland · 3 August 2006 · Chapter 4: Falling Pearls

I am starting to feel sorry for Artanis now.Maybe she will come to see the error of her ways?A gripping chapter.

Author's reply

Thank you, Linda! Well, there are villains and... villains, isn't it? Just wait and see!

Andrea · 28 July 2006 · Chapter 4: Falling Pearls

So, Artanis' opinion about Aragorn is actually her father's! She's had not enough time yet to think it over and change her mind. I think this is possible, or I hope so. Unfortunately, after discovering that the wrong halfling was abducted, she will only fear her father's reaction! Frodo is great! He'll set out on his own to find Sam every minute now, I guess! And poor Sam! I hope you won't hurt him too much. (I'm still pondering about that *evil grin* in your reply to Dreamflower. Oh my!)

Author's reply

Well, I ve still one or two aces in my sleeve - just wait. And would I ever really hurt poor Sam? Okay, a tiny little bit, but he will come out of this adventure without being harmed too much. Thank you for your enthusiasm! Cúthalion

Dreamflower · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 4: Falling Pearls

Oh my, Artanis is turning into a very interesting character--she has a conscience. Now I want to know more about her father, and why he thinks of Aragorn as a "usurper". And oh dear, poor Sam! I do hope you get back to him soon, or I'll have no fingernails left.

Author's reply

Thank you! You know, if I undertake to write an OC, he/ she should be interesting and complex, or we would have a Mary-Sue. And Sam will most definetely be in the next chapter - though you won't be too comforted, I fear. *evil grin* Cúthalion

Periantari · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

I love your Frodo section in this chapter. All the description about his homesickness was written so darn well. At home there had been warm weeks, too – of course – but they would be interspersed with cloudy days and the reassuring drum of heavy drops on the grassy roof of Bag End… The sweet scent of damp honeysuckle, the splashing of bare feet in the silvery puddles along the way to Bywater after a refreshing shower… lush, green hills and daffodils with gently nodding heads… He lay in the stifling darkness, his eyes wide open, and the images washed over him with bittersweet, breathtaking power and closed ghostly fingers around his heart. Your writing is beautiful. And your Frodo is Love. =)

Author's reply

Thank you for the compliment, Peri! And my Frodo is Love? So true - if there's ever been a book character I longed to understand and "help" to develop - in a way - it is this wondrous hobbit. Cúthalion

Periantari · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

Wow what a story you've written! I am so hooked since i love Sam fics like these. 0=) I love your description and i love your plot so far. Your OCs are very intriguing and i really can't wait to see what happens next. WOnderful story. Can't wait to read more. :)

Author's reply

Thank you, Peri! I'll try to keep it interesting! Cúthalion

Grey Wonderer · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

So they think Sam is Frodo do they? And their message has gone astray. How much more trouble can Sam be in? Don't answer that. I enjoyed Sam's thoughts about what the Gaffer might think of things. I do hope they are able to use the clues in the bedroom to find him especially now that no randsom note will be arriving. This is wonderful!

Author's reply

Thank you! (And you shouldn't forget that they stole more than one pigeon!) Isn't this fun? This my very first real suspense-story, and cooking up the plot with the help of my friend Jodancingtree was a blast. I am very glad that you enjoy it! Cúthalion

Grey Wonderer · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

Oh no! I am guessing that Sam is in far more trouble than he was with those over-sized clippers. I only hope that Frodo can warn someone before Sam is completely lost. Minas Tirith is a very big place! This is very exciting by the way. Loved the hammock. I could see Merry and Pippin playing with it. I was surprised that one or the other hadn't tossed themselves out onto the ground. LOL

Author's reply

*laughs* I decided not to overdo the slapstick on their account. And concerning Frodo - well, there are many casks leaving Aragorn's City, so to speak, and it will turn out rather complicated to find out which is the one with poor Sam stuffed in it. But he will be found an rescued in time, I promise. Cúthalion

Grey Wonderer · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Mishap in the Garden

Poor Sam and poor Aragorn finding those clippers and all that blood. He must have been very worried by the time he found Sam. Your Sam is so sweet and so eager not to cause any trouble. I am enjoying this and am glad to have found it.

Author's reply

Thank you! *bows* I thought this must be "very" Sam to be quite embarrassed when it is - for a change - him who needs some help. And he will get even more in trouble that way as the story continues... Cúthalion

Grey Wonderer · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 0: The Wish of a King

I am curious about this. Pearls for Arwen. This sounds very interesting indeed.

Author's reply

It is, believe me. I'll do my very best to keep it thrilling. *smiles* Cúthalion

Radbooks · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

I am enjoying this story very, very much! Poor Sam... first his fingers and now this, though I'm thinking that he is sort of glad that he was taken and not his Master. That's just the kind of Hobbit he is. I'm wondering how long Frodo will allow Aragorn to do the searching, etc. I hope he doesn't do anything too foolish! :) Looking forward to more.

Author's reply

Not too long, I assure you. You know, the longer I write, the more I get sick of FF-Frodo who is barely able to think clearly, let alone to make brave decisions and carry out a risky plan if necessary. Who ever reads the book without the "pink glasses" of his/her own ideas on should see him as a strong, corageous character with enough common sense and wisdom to get things done. *steps off her soap box" (And thank you very much!) Cúthalion

harrowcat · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

Oh dear, even the best laid plans of hobbitnappers go awry! And how much more dangerous for Sam!

Author's reply

Indeed. But this is a solid PG-13 and in the end he will return to his Shire in one piece, so don't be too afraid! *smiles* (And thank you!) Cúthalion

Andrea · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

I have been confined to a sickroom because I was too weak to move. Then confined to this house because you told me to recover and to take care of myself. But with Sam being in danger, I won’t stay behind and wait for you to save the day. You know that, do you?” “Yes,” Aragorn replied, eyeing the hobbit with deep concern, “Only too well.” Cuthalion, I like *your* Frodo! Smart, brave, sometimes very stubborn - and with a large amount of authority - even when he speaks to Aragorn. If Frodo decides to search for Sam on his own, it will be very difficult for Aragorn to stop him, if not impossible! Poor unlucky bird, indeed! I have no idea, though, about the consequences. There might be even some more misunderstandings. Please update soon :)

Author's reply

If Frodo decides to search for Sam on his own, it will be very difficult for Aragorn to stop him, if not impossible! How very true... and how clever of you! *winks* And I love "my" Frodo, too - very much. He is every inch the Master of Bag End, and I like him that way.

cookiefleck · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

Have been reading and enjoying your story, which is beautifully written. Sam is my favorite character and I love it when he's in danger. Thank you, and I hope that you update with new chapters frequently. :o)

Author's reply

Sam is my favorite character and I love it when he's in danger. I'll do what I can, and there will probably be 4 or 5 more chapters. I'm very glad that you like this!

Dreamflower · 18 July 2006 · Chapter 3: Dove Flight

Oh how exciting and tense this is. Poor Sam, I love his fighting back and taking a chunk out of his kidnapper! And his thoughts of the Gaffer were wonderful. I love the way he very quickly figured out what had happened. And that Frodo had figured it out as well--he's got a sharp mind, and he's quickly going to realize the truth of the matter. Hopefully, the Bad Guys will not figure out too quickly they have the wrong hobbit, though if they get the bandage off, they'll soon know. Poor pigeon. Not a very reliable way to send a ransom note. By the way, you left a little bit of the posting HTML at the tail end there.

Author's reply

Poor pigeon. Not a very reliable way to send a ransom note. *laughs* Maybe - but this was simply bad luck, I'd say. And yes, they both carry a good head on their shoulder, those Ringbearers. It is a joy to give "my" Frodo the strength that is so often denied to him in fanfiction... and Sam calles himself a ninny, but he isn't, not at all. I'm glad that you like my tale (and sorry - that stupid HTMLstuff drives me crazy...) Cúthalion

Linda Hoyland · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

Your desciptions are beautiful, I felt I was in Gondor and that I'd seen the Shire !Poor Sam!I imagine, he was taken by mistake for Frodo?

Author's reply

Only too true. None of those two men has ever seen Frodo before, and all they had was the fact that he's wearing a bandage. And all I had to do now was to get the "real" Ringbearer out of the way. I'm very glad that this works for you!

Andrea · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

Those descriptions of nature are really beautiful, Cuthalion. And so vivid! I like the idea of the hammock. It's like a large cradle, as you said, a cradle for adults ;-) Although Frodo's feeling of safety was a mock feeling (is this the right word?)! I was actually wondering what would have happened if those men had left with Sam through the garden - and discovered Frodo! But now Frodo is able to alert the others in no time. That's at least some advantage! And I stood there like a witless fool and watched them escape – without doing anything! he thought How should he have known? That's so typical of Frodo, to blame it all on himself. I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! I must confess I was sorely tempted to let him wake up while they still tried to haul Sam in a potato sack over the wall... but this was easier. And Frodo will have more than one chance to make up for this "mistake" (that wasn't his fault at all). Cúthalion

RS · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

I knew when Frodo heard those voices that something like this happened! I have a strange feeling that these thieves think that they have Frodo and I know who's behind it! Your descriptions are awesome. I can't tell you enough. I'm actually right there in the shire enjoying the "lush green hill and daffodils"; I can actually feel the uncomfortable summer heat in the White City; I can hear the united snores of Merry and Pippin and see Sam's golden hair! Truly wonderful. I love the picture of the curious hobbits and especially the wary Sam eyeing Faramir tend to the hammock and Merry and Pippin swinging in the hammock like two little kids. And what a gentle soul Faramir is. A lovely chapter!

Author's reply

I have a strange feeling that these thieves think that they have Frodo and I know who's behind it! Well, that was predictable, wasn't it? *smiles* But I can promise you a few twists in this plot that may surprise you. I can actually feel the uncomfortable summer heat in the White City... Me too!The summer here in Germany is insanely hot right now. I know perfectly wekk how poor Frodo feels. If I only had a hammock! And thank you for your lovely comment - I am very happy that you like this!

Ariel · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

And here I had my hopes up for a third chapter. LOL! Very nicely done, as always, my friend.

Author's reply

My dearest, here will be no new chapter without a first check under your skilled hands and sharp eyes! *hugs you close* Did I mention lately how glad I am that you're out there? Mona

Dreamflower · 11 July 2006 · Chapter 2: Thieves in the Night

Oh golly! It's exactly as I feared would happen! Poor Sam! But at least Frodo has figured it out quickly, and can rouse everyone! I did love the idea of the hammock, and the way Frodo could sleep in it so beautifully--what a thoughtful idea of Faramir's. Wonderful chapter--I hope to see more soon!

Author's reply

I love the idea of the hammock, too. Jodancingtree (who inspired the story) has a huge hammock on her porch, and she loves having a nap in it from time to time. I hope she will love it, too. *smiles* And I'm glad that you enjoy this! Cúthalion

Andrea · 2 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Mishap in the Garden

Hi Cuthalion, this is *very* intriguing! His right hand is bandaged? There's going to be a mix up, I'm quite sure. Poor Sam, I can imagine his embarrassment about the "blood trail" to the houses of healing! Now let's see what Mr. Frodo will have to say. Ich bin gespannt, wie's weitergeht :)

Author's reply

Ich werde mir Mühe geben, damit es spannend bleibt! *lacht* Cúthalion

Elemmírë · 1 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Mishap in the Garden

Oh dear! Me thinks there is going to be a case of mistaken identity leaving poor, tired Frodo to fret for the safety of his Sam! This sounds like it is going to be a very intrguing story. (p.s. loved the detail, like the clipping shears being too large for Sam's hobbit hands, etc.)

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm very glad that you like it!
