I LOVE this, GamgeeFest! You did such a great job blending so many different subplots and story lines together. I haven't laugh this hard in a LONG time. My favorite part was when Sam beamed Boromir with the pinecone! That was just priceless! “A pinecone?” Boromir said, disbelieving. He had been knocked out by a pinecone? He will never live that one down ;) hahahahaha! Poor Boromir. Actually I never did like him very much but this story has been changing my mind. It's to bad that things turned out the way they did. Thank you so much for a great and very educational story. Namaire and God Bless, Ever

Author's reply

Thank you, Ever! It's such a joy to get a new review to an old story. :) I admit, I took a lot of Sean Bean's portrayal of Boromir from the movies for use here. Book Boromir comes across rather distant.

Reading this I have come to the conclusion that all Hobbits should come with a warning sign to beware of a Hobbits isatiable curiosity! Life would be so much eaiser and things would move a lot faster if you didn't have to keep stopping to answer their endless questions! Lynda

Author's reply

Well, at least all Tooks should come with that warning! Or anyone with more than quarter of Took blood. ;) I think Boromir rather enjoyed the attention, even if he'd never admit it. lol! Thanks for reading!

Slip · 31 July 2010 · Chapter 3: Foot Notes

Janet, Shirebound sent me here when we were discussing dwarf feet in eljay! This was a delightful read and new to me. So charming, your Pigeon and Mer were a total delight! I hadn't read a Quest story in quite awhile - so wonderfully nostalgic and how especially lovely to see Boromir at the hobbit's "questionable" mercy! Good job!

Author's reply

The hobbits certainly enjoyed themselves, as did Boromir - once all the questions were over with! He'll never make that mistake again. ;) So glad you enjoyed this.

6336 · 2 July 2010 · Chapter 4: Be Tween You and Me

I didn't know about hands, I always heard it was feet! Lynda

Author's reply

It could be both, I suppose! :) Thanks for reading.

Queen Galadriel · 2 June 2009 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

I started reading this a long time ago and then didn't ever finish it. Oh my, I haven't laughed so much, or so deeply, since I don't even know when. In the modern culture of men, young people lose their innocence (the most innocent sort of innocence, that is - we'll just leave the other out of the picture ;)) as naturally as young Hobbits came of age, or received their first pipe. A much sadder change, but bound to happen and impossible to prevent if one intends to be ready to cope with the real world. But stories like this are such sweet reminders that it doesn't matter really; that life is still what you make it; that laughter, loyalty, and love, and a little cleverness thrown in for good measure, can accomplish more than all the complications we create to make life "interesting," when really we'd be better off enjoying all these things instead of making life harder and forgetting the greatest gifts that make it worthwhile. Thank you for that reminder, and bravo! It's perfect; I love your Hobbits, and the story is beautifully rounded out at the end, from the revel of the last chapter, to the tying up of loose threads and Sam's own delightful and sweet and nostalgic recounting of it all in the epilogue. Truly heart-warming. :)

Author's reply

My dear, it is wonderful to hear from you! It was such a delight to open up this review and see you had written it! You've been missed, both here and on lj. (hugs) It is very easy for children today to lose their innocence. Nearly everywhere you look, someone or something is trying to steal it away. Yet innocence endures even against the harshest realities, and the hobbits I think epitomize that the most in Tolkien's works. I think that's part of the reason they are so small and easily confused for children by the Big Folk in the story. Thank you for your most insightful review! I'm glad you enjoyed the conclusion of the story and Sam's poem, as he worked very hard on it.

Antane · 14 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

Sorry to be reviewing so late - hobbits are indeed very inspiring! :) It seems natural to me that Elves would also like to be barefoot. Elrond's words to Gandalf about not minding being around the wizard's bare feet was cute. Love most though Pippin's remark about Sam: "he's a spy you know!" Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

For some reason, I didn't get an email notice for this review. I'm glad I found it! I think Elves would enjoy being barefoot too. They just needed a reminder. ;) Elrond doesn't mind what Gandalf's feet look like - he doesn't *have* to look at them after all - but scents are not so easy to ignore. hehe Sam was counting on Pippin's paranoia, as Sam was clearly not hiding in wait but had gone to fetch some much needed towels and beg assistance of the elves in cleaning the mess. ;D Thanks for reading! :)

cookiefleck · 9 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

I jumped for joy when I realized you'd posted another story and ran headlong over to SOA to read this chapter. Poor Pippin didn't stand a chance, did he? And glad to see that Sam was smart enought to stand clear of the fracas. Plus honey bombs, fragrant Gimli, etc. Your imagination ran amok and gave me many laughs!

Author's reply

Pippin was outnumbered and outmatched - by two very ticked off cousins! He did the smart thing by turning himself in right away, otherwise Frodo and Merry would have had more time to think up an even more elaborate pay back! Sam avoided the honey bomb by mere luck, and avoided the rest by good hobbit sense. Thanks for reading! Glad this gave you a few laughs! :D

Grey Wonderer · 8 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

You've done it again! I so enjoyed Elrond's speech on the joys of being without shoes and Pippin was, as ever a complete riot! Brilliantly done! I'm still laughing at Merry for wanting to tell Elrond exactly what 'he could say.'

Author's reply

I can't fathom why some people go around all day long in shoes. I hate having to wear shoes for too long. It's about time the elves learned the joys of going barefoot! ;) Pippin really put his foot in it this time. heh! Good thing Frodo was there to hold Merry back, or someone might not have lived to see the start of the Quest. ;D

Dreamflower · 8 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

LOLOLOL! Oh, I do love all the puns! "Danger afoot" indeed! And Gandalf's advice about humoring hobbits. Poor Pippin! I wonder who that honey bomb was actually intended for? He was very careful not to say who when he told Gandalf, Elrond and Erestor of his mishap!

Author's reply

I couldn't think of more puns, otherwise, I would have used them, I assure you! Perhaps it's a good thing I couldn't. ;) Gandalf has been around more hobbits and for a lot longer than the elves. He would know about the necessity of humoring hobbits. They can be so single-minded after all. :D Pippin had a rather adventerous start to his morning. Perhaps he couldn't say because his intended victim was in the room with him? ;) This incident could be why he and Merry decided to use poor Lindir as their patsy in the following chapter. *hinthint*

Larner · 8 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

Ah--when Pippin's involved, expect about anything? And who was his intended victim, then, and will that one end up getting doused anyway? Heh!

Author's reply

Pippin does start his share of trouble. He just can't help himself, being smack in the middle of his tweens. :D Well, if you remember the following chapter and the pranks Merry and Pippin put poor Lindir up to, you should be able to guess who Pippin's intended victim was - and alas, he still hasn't gotten him! ;)

shirebound · 8 February 2009 · Chapter 3: The Feet Have It

“Bilbo had many reasons for naming Frodo his heir. Their shared wiliness was but one of them.” Love it! Oh, this is a marvelous sequel. Hobbits certainly are inspirational and infectious, as well as charming, unforgettable, and wonderful. *beams*

Author's reply

Thank you dear! Hobbits are all those things, and more. The elves will miss them once they're gone. I doubt they've had this much excitement in Rivendell in decades! :D

nancylea57 · 6 December 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

you make the hobbits so enjoyable and entertaining that i could be here forever, but you really haven't done anything that horrible in your life so i'll keep moving around.

Author's reply

Hobbits do have that effect on people. ;) I'm glad you enjoyed this story!

Mysterious Jedi · 23 November 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

Delightful fic, and marvelously educational!

Author's reply

Thank you! The Fellowship came away from Rivendell knowing way more than they wanted to know - not that they minded it of course. :D Thanks for reading!

Althea · 28 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

I'm sorry to see this series of stories come to an end. This was the perfect conclusion. Sam's poem was a fitting tribute to the good times you created for the Hobbits to share with their new friends in Rivendell.

Author's reply

I can see the hobbits telling all the stories that the poem refers to. Faramir in particular will enjoy hearing about his older brother's less gracious moments. hehe :D Thank you for reading, dear! It's good to hear from you again. :D

Andrea · 27 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

“So that’s what happened to those golf clubs?” Merry said, turning to Legolas. “You know what this means?” “No. What does it mean?” Legolas asked cautiously. “We’ll have to introduce this fine game to Gondor,” Merry announced and grinned. LOL!!! Now, this would be worth another story, wouldn't it? Great epilogue and great poem. Thank you very much for this entertaining story :)

Author's reply

I can just see Merry and Pippin trying to convince Strider to put a golf course in Gondor. I don't see the conversation getting very far, somehow, lol! Thank you so much for reading and for your encouragement! :D

harrowcat · 26 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

A brilliant epilogue GF. Loved the poem. And I am sure that Pansy Scruttle feels much better! Perhaps there isn't room for a full golf course in Minas Tirith but a driving range off the end of the top level might be fun errrrr.... dangerous. Faramir might be persauded to set a course up in Ithilien.

Author's reply

Pansy and Posy both. Posy was getting ready to head out to Bywater and avenge her reputation, little as it was. ;D A driving range? They better get a huge net for it, or the poor folk at the bottom will never know what hit them. hehehe Ithilien would be safely removed from Minas Tirith, and has built in hazards. That thought has potential. :D Thanks for reading!

Grey Wonderer · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

Sam's poem is pure brilliant! I adored every word. I think he summed up things quite nicely. (You did pretty well yourself.) Ah, golf in Minas Tirith! Maybe Bergil can caddy. Great story and I am sad to see it end. I got many great laughs out of this.

Author's reply

The poem ended up being nearly epic length. I was expecting for Sam to go on for that long, but when he gets into the swing of things, it's hard to stop him! ;) Bergil would love to follow his Sir Pippin around the green, carrying his clubs and washing his balls. Heh. Thank you so much for reading, GW! I'm glad you enjoyed the story, though it took me forever to finish it. :D

Aiwen · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 3: Foot Notes

This is hysterically funny. Thank you for writing.

Author's reply

Thank you for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Antane · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

With knowing that Sam is already there for his Frodo, it's sweet to be reminded that Frodo is there for his Sam. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author's reply

One of Frodo's main concerns had always been Sam's safety and happiness. And Sam would rather him work on this poem than that dreaded book any day. :) Thank you for reading!

Larner · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

cute! Love the poem!

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :D

shirebound · 25 August 2008 · Chapter 999: Ode to Rivendell

*whistles and claps* Sam finally finished his poem! This is a wonderful summation of your story, and theirs. Poor Gondor! :D

Author's reply

*bows* Thank you! Sam worked very hard on his poem; it ended up being quite a bit longer than I (or he) had expected. Given all the adventures they had in Rivendell, it would have been hard for him to keep it short and sweet as Bilbo had done. Poor Gondor indeed. Let's hope that Faramir is wise enough to deny his knight and friends this request. *grins* Thank you for reading, and for all your encouragement!

Grey Wonderer · 9 August 2008 · Chapter 14: Closing Time

Loved your Hobbit Drinking Game! Sent you an email with my story guesses. Didn't think you wanted that part posted here. This story, (All of the Chapters) has been a delight. I hope there will be more.

Author's reply

Thank you GW! Hobbits and alcohol - you can't get much better than that. :D

Althea · 4 August 2008 · Chapter 14: Closing Time

This was so much fun! Gandalf certainly knows how to get the Hobbits minds off of their worries. I can just imagine the faces of the others as the Hobbits bickered among themselves. The quest would be dangerour, but with those four, I bet it was never dull.

Author's reply

If anyone would, it would be Gandalf. He knew what to expect going in, which I'm sure was part of the fun for him. He would be sitting back and watching the others' dumbfounded reactions to the hobbits with great joy and mischief. No, definitely never dull. ;)

cookiefleck · 4 August 2008 · Chapter 14: Closing Time

Well, *that* went downhill fast! ;o) Loved it... can't wait for the rest.

Author's reply

Yep, this game was not meant for the lightweights. Really, it should only be played by professionals. :P Thanks for reading!

harrowcat · 4 August 2008 · Chapter 14: Closing Time

I am glad that RL isn't dampening your creative spirit GF. This is so much fun. Sorry I am that I don't have time to take up your identity challenge.

Author's reply

Ah, but that's why I made sure all these final chapters were written *before* I started updating again. I didn't want another year-long delay. ;) This was certainly enlightening for the Big Folk, and they'll have something to hold over the hobbits' heads later on. ;) Not that they would, of course...
