· Chapter 999: Together Once More
A wonderful bringing of Movie-verse out of Book-verse. To see Merry saving Pippin from the troll only to almost lose him to the Nazgul's fell beast was marvelous, as well as the realization that the presence already of the Black Breath would possibly draw the rest of the Ring-wraiths to Merry to avenge themselves.
And such a wonderful testiment to the love between these two cousins.

Yes--they are alive and healing--and in the Houses.

Now these two must be sought. Valiant, stubborn, beloved Hobbits!

Yes, FRODO!

To think of sending these two out to fight would take all they have, I think. Poor lads.

Lovely rationalization to explain the movie-verse. Yes, Frodo's own determination would indeed be seen in his Merry.

· Chapter 999: Together Once More
A delightful tale, and a good gap filler for movie-verse here. Thanks.

THANK YOU!!!! Now I can watch the movies a little easier, without quite the same intensity of desperate wishes for more M & P scenes... and of course I'm glad you read and enjoyed it all too.

Our Pippin--alternately loquacious and responsible, bouncing and then falling into introspection. The lads are growing up, far too quickly, I fear.
And Merry is relieved to find Pippin alive at all.
Author's reply
I heart Pippin too. He's always been my favorite (can you tell?), though the longer I read and write about Merry (and the other hobbits) the more I love them all.

· Chapter 4: Beneath a Darkening Sky
The grief of waiting, hearing one so well loved apparently dying....
Hold on, lads--Gimli will find the both of you soon. Not, thankfully, under a troll in this version....
Author's reply
Indeed...after all, if Merry had been there in the book, there's NO WAY Pippin would have been squashed. He just wouldn't have allowed it to happen.

Aha! Marvelous moment! Praise THESE two Halflings and their determination, and Manwe for sending his eagles! Hooray!
Author's reply
Yaaaaay! This is my favorite chapter, just so you know. Thanks for cheering with me. :-)

· Chapter 2: To His Doom
At least Pippin's following healer's orders, which he needed desperately to do.
Author's reply
LOL! Yes, exactly! And in typical Pippin fashion too--wholeheartedly tackling that nap. ;-)

I can certainly see the Hobbit determination in poor Merry, and the fact that Frodo's own will would be reflected in this Brandybuck's face at that moment.
No, the Hobbits aren't going to be ignored by the Nazgul now, are they? And we must be glad Frodo and Sam (and Gollum) reached the Sammath Naur when and as they did.
An interesting movie-verse AU incident to consider. Am looking forward to reading more.

Thanks, Larner, for faithfully reviewing every chapter of this fic! Of course, we both have Marigold to thank for inspiring me to explore the movie-verse for a while...
BTW, I'm glad that you agree with me that Merry might look like Frodo (especially in a movie-verse fic, when their actors look really NOTHING alike)...but there's an expression that I imagine they both might share....that determination, you know. Brave spirits. :-)

Great story. I loved the way you brought elements of the book into the movie action - the troll, and Gimli spotting hobbit feet. Nice blend of action and emotion, too, and excellent writing.
Favourite line: "Pippin’s breath hitched, once, and then his and Merry’s voices raised as one, yells that weren’t words at all, but battle cries ripped from their throats, forming an assent deeper than civilised speech: Yes! For Frodo! as they raced after their king." Very powerful

Thank you so much for your review! And I'm so glad you picked out a line I'd thought was just "a description to ease the scene transition" as your favorite...there's something nice about being reminded that even those can be necessary, even powerful.

I don't usually read movie-verse stories but this one was good.
Author's reply
Thank you for your review! I'm glad you gave it a chance, even though it is movie-verse. ;-) I too usually read book-verse stories myself, but I do like movie-verse stories that find a way to bring in as much book-stuff as possible that had been left out, a blending of the worlds, I guess (and that's what I tried to do here!).

Oooo, ooo, am so glad to see this! (Though I have absolutely no time to read; didn't even glance over the chapter, no, just scrolled right to the bottom and hit "Leave Review".
But this is going to the top of my "must read" list, so if all goes well you'll hear from me sometime this week.
No more fanfic? Let it never be!
(p.s. I want an autographed copy of that novel, mind.)
Author's reply
LOL! It's a deal. You'll get that copy if I ever FINISH (I'm lucky I've got a definite April due date because i'm such a perfectionist--I wouldn't let anyone see it until i'd rewritten it 10 times otherwise) and then if any publishing company actually accepts it! ;-)
Thanks for your "miraculous" speed-demon review--it's great to get a vote of confidence before you've even read a word! :-D (When I saw that message in my inbox, I knew you couldn't have read it that fast...though the "instant feedback" thing does wonders for my ego.)
