Now that last sentence promises another adventure! How very scary and exciting. You've created a truly interesting beast here. I like that we don't know what it is or how it got there. I am glad that we at least know it can't leave the meadow.

Marigold and I are working on that next adventure but it will not turn up until after the holidays. So glad you are enjoying the meadow and the mystery creature. Have a happy holiday and thank you for reviewing this!

GamgeeFest · 19 December 2006 · Chapter 1: Splendor in the Grass

You mean to say that Merry, who was always so quick to remind Frodo that Pippin is an evil child would then let said child run about freely? lol Merry really doesn't think sometimes. He's also too cocky for his own good. I love their mysterious meadow. What a fascinating and wonderful place.

Bodkin · 16 December 2006 · Chapter 2: The Unwelcome Visitor

Scary. Very, very scary. I wonder what it is that haunts the meadow at night. Nothing you'd want to meet face to face, that's for sure. They were mad to go back - even if Pippin was certain that the evil was only there at night. (I wonder how he knew?) Still - I suppose the event was some kind of preparation for the horrors they would meet on their travels. If you want to look at it like that.

I don't think I would have gone back but Tolkien does say that the Hobbits get over things quickly so maybe they recovered a bit too well from their night time visit and as the fear faded the lure of the meadow grew stronger. There will be more after the holidays and I hope there will be an answer or two in there. Thank you for reviewing!

Bodkin · 16 December 2006 · Chapter 1: Splendor in the Grass

This meadow is a fascinating place - and seems, at the moment at least, to be a very special place, open to very few. I wonder how Merry and Pippin got a dispensation to enter it...

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed the meadow. I was in the mood for a bit of magic when I wrote this one. I may have to answer that question at some point in this series because there must be a reason for it.....

Blossom · 15 December 2006 · Chapter 2: The Unwelcome Visitor

I am loving your story, you have such a marvellous way of portraying the Hobbits. Looking forward with eager anticipation to the next chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you! I am glad that you liked it. I hope to have more up after the holidays. Thank you for the lovely review.

Oh my! That was creepy! Like Larner, I would very much like to know what that creature was. I would imagine something Balrog-like. But somehow I have the feeling that you aren't going to tell us more ;-) Am I right? I also enjoyed the little remarks Merry put in, for example: Pippin was reading each of the characters in the story with a different voice. All of them still sounded like Tooks but they all sounded like different Tooks. What fun! I would have liked to listen to that performance!

Author's reply

There is more, but as to if it will answer all of your questions, well, I better not say just yet. Glad you enjoyed Merry's remarks in this one. I had fun including a bit of information here and there amid the creepy parts. Marigold and I worked on this for a while to get it to this point so I hope you will enjoy what comes later. Thanks for the lovely review!

harrowcat · 14 December 2006 · Chapter 2: The Unwelcome Visitor

*brrrrrrrrrr....* Was the 'thing playing with them and not using it's full strength, just like Merry with Pippin? Intriguing last line!

Author's reply

This one was a bit on the creepy side. We, Marigold and I, played with it a bit so that it become more creepy. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing! We had fun writing this one.

Larner · 14 December 2006 · Chapter 2: The Unwelcome Visitor

I was already curious, and now you really have my curiosity roused. Gollum? An outdoors Balrog of some sort? Hmmmm. You truly have me wanting to know as much as Merry DOESN'T want to know.

Author's reply

Seems you and Merry had the opposite reaction to this. There is more but I don't know entirely how much more as of yet. At least one more entry in the journal will deal with Merry's creature. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Lindelea · 13 December 2006 · Chapter 1: Splendor in the Grass

Fascinating concept, a disappearing meadow, with benevolent occupants under the sun, and not-so-kindly when the sun has gone to bed... What was that dark force, did you ever find out? I loved the idea of Merry making up his "game", a gentle adventure though not without peril!

Author's reply

The second part of this was posted to Marigold's Challenge 35 this month and I am moving it here sometime tonight. She and I co-authored that section and there is more about what is in the meadow at night in that part. We are also hard at work on a part three with a twist to it but that isn't likely to be completed until after the holidays. Merry's game was fun until he realized how it might get out of hand. I think he believed that he had it all under control until Pippin proved him wrong. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

harrowcat · 13 December 2006 · Chapter 1: Splendor in the Grass

I loved this GW and it has such potential for more entries. *hints greedily!* You got the sense of fear and wonder perfectly. Running in tall grass when I was Pippin's age was the cause of the scar on my leg when I ran into a stick I didn't see. I went to the hospital on the back of a bicycle!

Author's reply

I like running in tall grass too. There aren't any meadows like that near my home but I have seen a few and they are lovely when one is lucky enough to find them. Posting part two of this here tonight. Marigold and I wrote it together and so I am glad that you are interested in more of this. Thanks for the review. The back of a bicycle! Now that must have been one interesting day for you!

Dreamflower · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 0: Disclaimer and a bit about the story

*grin* I love this "Prologue", LOL! Good old Merry--yes, I would bet Rosamunda picked it out--or maybe it was meant for Frodo in the first place! LOL! But trust Merry to be impressed with how it looks sitting on his desk! *giggle*

Author's reply

Merry has very good taste. LOL He may not plan to write anything but he doesn't mind if others think he is writing. Some days I feel the same way. I could see Rosamunda being the kind who would do Freddy's shopping for him so that he would have the proper gifts to give. Glad you agree.

Lindelea · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 0: Disclaimer and a bit about the story

Hah! You got me. I saw a 'prologue' and having no time to read clicked to leave my usual prologue review (adding the story to my list of want-to-reads) and there was not only the usual note but text as well, you cruel thing. At least it was only a little text, and so I was able to spare some time--forego brewing my usual morning cup to read and not worry about people breathing down my neck moaning about "being late". Will have to buy coffee on the way to dropping dh at work, I suppose. *sigh* The sacrifices one must make for art!

Author's reply

I am cruel, aren't I? Hey, this time I had to set things up a bit. You could have stopped after the disclaimer and put the rest of the prologue on your list too. I do hope you got your coffee. I'm not that cruel. LOL

Larner · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 1: Splendor in the Grass

Ah, the joys of wonder and magic. Wonder of wargs come there at night, or changeling bears, or some other odd creature? As for not wanting adventures outside the Shire--the time will come when that contingency will be thrust upon them. I love fields of tall grass, myself. I can see why they love to return there. And I suspect the Elves do love it, too.

Author's reply

I do think that if the Shire was that lovely that the Elves might have had a few secret places within it, don't you? I do love meadows with high grass and flowers myself. As to what is there at night, Merry's next entry goes into that a bit more so I won't comment further. Thanks for reading!

Larner · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 0: Disclaimer and a bit about the story

Perhaps it was indeed intended originally for Frodo, but mislabeled. And love that Pippin drew a lumpy sheep and apple. Yes, quite the object to tease sensitive younger cousins with when they grow older. Wonderful.

Author's reply

It probably was supposed to be for Frodo and he would have known exactly what to do with it. No sheep or apples and certainly no putting it on display. LOL I think someone needs to buy Pippin some art paper for his lumpy sheep.
